Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

How you plan to do that?
IIRC you do need a ship on the carrier to transfer fuel from storage to tritium depot.
Guess what, by the 2nd jump I realised that.... (smell of noob is strong here)

Change of plan, take the FC upwards 450LY and take an unused route back, flying the DBX and scanning crap. Guess I will have to meet up with the carrier every ~4990 LY. I will just jump the carrier dry before finding it to top up. Probably will need 4 to 5 such top ups to get near bubble.

About 140Ly from Colonia and everything seems undiscovered, however, it is bloody annoying that I keep discovering (well the 1st 3 so far) systems where no one has discovered/scanned it, everything is unmapped but when I scan the planet, the damn place is littered with crash sites and artificial structures.... tsk tsk FDev...

Question, how does it work?

1. If a system has been honked before, but never scanned by FSS, when the next player jumps in and tries to open the system map, only the stars will load correct?
2. If a system has been FSS'ed, when anyone jumps in, when opening the system map, all the bodies which were previously FSS'ed by someone (and cashed in?) will load?

Is that how it works?

I'm in Alliance space at the moment and one of the FC voices has an accent I can't quite place. It may have a slight - very slight - South African twang but I may be wrong. Any ideas what it is?
I had one that I thought was a Caribbean accent the other day. Never come across it before. Never heard a Yorkshire one, but still loved the one from Oldham.

Anything that has been scanned and sold will show up, so
  • unless your predecessor has sold the scan data, the system will look virgin to you - no stars, no planets
  • when you jump into a system, you're (usually) within auto-scan range of the target star, so this one will be scanned automagically
  • in addition, close by (single figure ls or so) secondaries or planets will be resolved
  • honking the system will reveal/scan all secondary stars (including brown dwarfs)
  • and finally FSSing can show you all the rest
  • "old" systems that have been visited before the FSS might be different. The old ADS would show you all the planets, but you'd still had to get close and scan them. Better ask in the Exploration subforum about the details.

Inhabited system above a certain population level (I think at least that this is the criterium) will be "pre-scanned", i.e. behave like they have been scanned by a CMDR.

Mission bugged on me. Said I needed to instrall the power regulator to power up the base when I'd already done that. Consequently, I had no porgress on being the fire department plus, it cost me credits and reputation loss. Bah.

And, to boot, still no OP's.

I need to not look for them.

I upgraded my GPU and I bought Odyssey. Haven't taken on any of the new missions yet, am just bumming around taking a look at stuff. This DLC looks really good and the new visuals are crisp af

Am disappointed that we can't land on the Moon though. I want to land on the Moon and look up at the Earth.
What card did you get?
Now supercruising 194k LS to map one ice world, just for the heck of it. :)
That's the spirit! @@@07

There's also the sycophantic English accent from Imperial stations. American too, natch. Also heard Indian/Pakistani. That Alliance one just escapes me though.
You hear some that sound Eastern European doing the traffic violators will be obliterated announcements in many places and there might be one doing Flight Control in Imperial space.

I'm headed back to the bubble, after a couple of weeks out exploring. I should have enough exobiology data to rank up, I think. And it's time to do something else for a while.

My red SRV, looking shiny.

Having realised that the goal of getting allied with every controlling power in the bubble is probably unobtainable, I've decided instead to go for player factions with lots of systems (EDDB lets you list them by controlled systems, so this is easy to target).

If I do just the top 10 - which will probably only take a week or two - then I'll have access to over 1000 systems where at least one faction is allied and giving good missions.

Which is about 5% of the bubble, but still, it's better than the handful I have right now.

The top 10 are mostly independent, so after that I may go for the top 10 empire/federation/alliance factions as well. Fingers crossed I should end up with close on 15% of systems offering me high quality allied missions. Might be a month to two months of targeted mission running, but it'll be a good point to work from, I think. My current cutter is proving really good for rep grinding, because it can typically carry 2-4 source and return or cargo deliveries, can handle up to 12 passengers, and is tough enough to handle basically unlimited waves of pirates - or nimble enough to just evade the interdiction and cancel the rest of the inbound, whichever I prefer. Only down side is it can't land on medium pads, so gets offered a lot of planetary ports - but I'm really in no hurry, and I don't mind this 😸

Meantime, I tracked down the home system of West Leeds Yacht Club... no way is this my west Leeds. My west Leeds isn't nearly this upmarket, it must be the Alabama lot. (WLYC do seem present in quite a few systems though, so I ran some missions for allied status with them anyway.)

To be fair, atmospheric ice planets can be very pretty. Especially if they've got lots of volcanic features!

This, could be a very good incentive to make me trying to dock at every single stations to hear the various accents! :)

Nice catch from FDEV for the accents IMO.
It's always the upper class nature of the Imperial accent that strikes me. To the extent that hearing a person in RL with that accent would be a rare thing, unless you live with the queen. The alliance accent on the other hand would be rarely heard by the queen.

Is there somewhere we can see how many factions we are allied with? Can't see anything on Inara.

There's a boating club near Yeadon, which is close to the Intergalactic terminus of Leeds Bradford Starport. Been a couple of years. My memory isn't what it was, lol.
