Odyssey VR specific bug reports - please contribute!

Issue report #45723 - Galaxy map problems with mouse - has, for some reason, clicked over to “can vote for” status with only one Confirmation and no green tick of acknowledgment…the day after it was due to expire.

Strange things are afoot at Issue Tracker 😅

(I’m not complaining mind, they can all do this with one confirmation in future please 😁)

Well blimey Charlie - https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/45586 - Starlight beams rotate with head - has just got the green tick of Acknowledgment. I could’ve sworn that was going to get a “by design” stamped on it 😁

https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/45723 - Galaxy map problem with mouse - has also been ticked which means all currently player-confirmed VR issues are now on FDev’s books 👍
I didn't notice starlight beams rotate, but I did notice the cabin smoke when you overheat to rotate. has that been fixed yet?

Unfortunately never, apart from one brief Beta period in the dim and distant past which I think proves it can be done (even if by accident 😁).

The last FDev comment I saw about it was on this report: https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/295 along with the pre-Issue Tracker comment of https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/flares-rotate-with-ship-rotation.134483/post-2077489
…which I find mildly annoying because, yes, horizontal and vertical planes need to keep facing the player so we don’t see them edge-on, but the rotation doesn’t need to match our head movement - and I’d say that the rotation movement is the worst looking one in VR. I keep my head very still when looking at stellar ejecta 😅

I've noticed often the lighting of planets on the skybox isn't consistent between eyes. They seem to have added some type of bloom effect that just doesn't work in VR. Anyone else getting this? I play with a G2

Secondly, I would like to note that planet surfaces suffer hugely from specular aliasing, a type of shader aliasing. I assume this isn't as noticeable at the high FOVs of pancake gaming, but in VR it's an absolute immersion killer, especially because it's world relative, as you turn your head, the aliasing lines align with your view, and add to the infernal shimmer of textures, space stations etc. ED's not the only game that has it, Space Engine does too and here's a video I made recording it:

I'm sure nobody cares, but I really can't play anymore. The second issue basically stopped me landing on planets. The first issue, which is newer, has now made me cba to even hang out in space anymore. Shame, I really loved ED once, and no game is ever going to fill the gap

Hi OP, did you see this? I didn't see you respond to it and I'm not sure how the new ticketing system is, but any chance we could add these to the list and try to get it verified or whatever? If not already, and apologies if it is

The brightness issue was last submitted in September and expired with just 3 confirmations - https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/42374 - I’ve looked for it and can’t see the issue in my Quest 2, possibly because I have the headset brightness at its lowest setting. If someone wants to resubmit the report then I’ll fiddle with my settings and see if I can duplicate the issue, though at the moment I’d advise waiting until after the next Update - there might be a few more eyes-on around then 👍

As for the aliasing, I reckon that’s covered by https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/32228 - the second-highest voted issue on the tracker.

Thanks. Shame about the brightness thing. I'll see if I can find a sure fire way to reproduce at some point. It's killing the game for me just as much as the aliasing

I’ve added a new thing in the OP - the current position the issue is at regarding votes. This can show us what issues could be worth pushing towards the Top 20, with the Glide/SuperCruise view glitch and the weird geometry flashing being the two I’d go for (and I have 😁).

In other news, the missing holo-me body report (https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/33459) is now marked as fixed even though it’s still not working correctly - I’ll check again after the next Update to see if anything has changed and submit a fresh report (if required) about the small head view and omnipresent hair.

https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/28904 is also marked as fixed even though https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/45723 is still live and describes the same issue, I think? 😅

Been playing last few days and the tone mapping discrepancy issue is definitely still present and definitely still ruining immersion for me. Maybe another attempt to make a ticket? I'll post on twitter to get more confirmations if you give me instructions?

I’ve resubmitted the issue report for you using the same text (https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/47312) - if you’ll do the honours and chase up 10 confirmations then that’d be 👍👍

I don't know about the aliasing issue, but I did notice the consistency between the eyes problem before, but it was more about traversing around the star and then, at some point, as if one eye gets blind for a second or two... That is very annoying...
Yep, its all very disheartening for VR players at the moment. It feels like VR will be in this alpha/beta state for an indefinite amount of time. The fact that such an obvious and frequent visual bug like the frameshift enter/exit where the camera suddenly shifts to another view has been ignored for 6 months now suggests they couldn't give a flying... you know what, about the quality of VR in EDO. The other immersion killer are these shiny sun reflecting rocks that are in the shade of mountains and canyons. Its a shame too as the new lighting when you are in the shade behind mountains etc looks great, but these shiny rocks ruin the scene.

Yes on both accords and on the last comment, there's too many unaddressed issues currently piled up in VR that makes it simply uncomfortable to play. If it was an odd usability bug or something I could live with it until a fix, it has happened before, but all of these mostly-rendering-related things together make it physically impossible to abide for more than 10 minutes if you do any sort of activity.
Hi guys, we are up to 4 confirms. If any of you haven't, would you mind doing so? Last big push to get this bug recognised!

If this is the brightness one, I've just added a contribution (I cannot vote or anything if that's needed). I hadn't noticed this but I'm trying to play in EDO and it's quite jarring - that and the flicker of something from one eye to another suddenly.

The brightness issue is now up to 10 independent confirmations, so it looks like Issue Tracker is doing the “yeah, when I say you need ten confirmations, what I actually mean is you need eleven” thing 😁

New issue to report: https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/47336 - Shadows only in one eye - looks like a resurgence of an old problem, but perhaps specific to Pimax headsets this time? Not seeing it in my Quest 2 though I did get the one-eye shadows bug early in the Alpha, if I remember correctly.
