Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Also just as a sidenote, I think it's rather funny that as far as I can tell, this is the largest, most replied to, and most viewed thread on the entire FDev Forums. Haha.
It's absolutely the funniest topic on the forum.

What that might suggest, I couldn't possibly say.

The appointment of Sandi was nepotism at its finest. The appointment of Ortwin... well, shady since he represented CryTek, but ok, it was for a position he was an expert it. The appointment of Erin... sure, he had many years of experience working for an evil AAA company banging out reskinned games, but ok, its relevant. Sandi? They made her head of HR and head of marketing... when she was totally unqualified for either position.

Also a reminder that the Sandi nepotism was kept secret for as long as possible. Eventually they had to reveal they were married. We see the same level of ethics and honesty in their roadmap, marketing and business model.

You could say she grasped the opportunity firmly with both hands.

May the old gods strike me blind...but I found this interesting. Settled a few myths and legends about graphics and rendering in straight layman's terms, not only in SC but generally.

Blimey, the Derek Smart of SotA has emerged, to draw some parallels…

The TLDR is: He thinks CIG have blamed unbelievers to galvanise the faithful, as a strategy. And that it’s a bad sign. (Tacitly admitting internal struggles with the impossible dream game, and that it’s not getting better any time soon. And directing anger for that elsewhere.) He presumes that things will get uglier on that front in the long-term.

I like how Joe has pretty much become shorthand for anyone who defends the project at all costs.

It was an absolutely fascinating read. It made me look up Warren Spector (the guy who told Chris "No!" back in the Wing Commander days), to see if he was doing anything similar to his other two colleagues from Origin. Turns out he's stayed fairly above board.

I disliked his prophecy of Joe just being the tip of a crazy iceberg ;)

But yeah, def an interesting perspective, if fairly hopped up.

Yeah Spector seems to have fizzled rather than egregiously fan-flamed. But he was known more for putting the brakes on guys like Chris if anything, AFAIK.

Good point about backers acting like publishers.

Imagine if CIG really did have publishers and turned around to them saying they were affecting their work by taking their roadmap as promises. I think the publishers wouldn't have been particularly amused by that. But backers? Nah, let's absolve Chris and buy more ships.
