Elite Dangerous: Odyssey Hotfix 10.02 | 03/02/2022

anyone else notice a significant decrease in shadow performance with the ultra setting (but with superscaling / scaling set to "normal") when in roid fields? I dont remember it being as bad as it is now but it's gobbling up frames like they're lays potato chips. I've had to drop shadow (i did this to all shadow settings) settings to low quality to regain some semblance of sanity of performance in roid fields now.
not saying this is specific to .2. Just that i know i was in fields in .1 and didn't notice this rather large framerate drop then, but now i do after pulling in .2.

Greetings Commanders.
Hello, Sally. Surely the question about the image of the commander in the Odyssey was asked more than once. But still is there a chance to get the same face :)

I can play the game like usual but something strange has happened to the lady deck officer who runs my fleet carrier. Originally she had purple lenses in her glasses which made her look edgy, cool and rock and roll. Now they are just clear transparent lenses which make her look like a mousey bureaucrat.🤓

Can this new bug be pushed to the top of the pile as its making the game absolutely unplayable. ;)
Just kidding, second from the top is fine.(y):D

Greetings Commanders.

Apologies for swooping in on you quite suddenly with this on your Thursday morning, however at approximately 12:00pm UTC today we will be deploying a small hotfix to address some stability issues experienced with Elite Dangerous: Odyssey.

It's a short and sweet one again today, Commanders! Please forgive the quietness yesterday - it can get very busy 'behind the curtain' here at the moment and attention needs to be spread accordingly, so thanks for being patient regarding CM tags, messages and responses. You're all mega important.

Elite Dangerous: Odyssey Commanders will today recieve a Hotfix to address a number of key stability issues.

Odyssey only servers will flip briefly offline from 12:00pm UTC with minimal downtime required.

The hotfix download will be available shortly after the downtime (as usual I'll be in touch here anyway).

Updates of note:
  • A number of fixes to address stability issues have been been implemented.
    • Some of these fixes contribute further to tackle the plight of crashes encountered when loading Odyssey from the main menu.
    • Further code stability support fixes have been implemented.

Thank you again for the continued conversation.
Your constructive conversation and thoughts are always enjoyed (always love the fun stuff too!).

o7 and a Happy Thursday.
Whats the deal with no streams/dev updates(last one was 5 months ago!) literally anything that resembles communication.

Is it all starting to unravel at Frontier or something?

Where are they?

D2EA said in his latest stream that he's running out of things to talk about. But said he'll just have to do more Star Citizen. FDev worked so hard to retrieve some ground but I'm afraid to say, any momentum they had built up has virtually disappeared.

Content streamers have had to diversify and whilst (I shall politely say) "the opposition" is making great strides, Elite is losing even more ground. Virtually no one is streaming Elite Dangerous any more and FDev in my opinion can not afford to do the same.

The Community Managers seem to have gone to ground and @sallymorganmoore bless her, as usual seems to be single handedly keeping everything afloat.

It's all very sad really. I'm trying really hard to maintain my loyalty to Elite, but there's only so much one can do. I mean what's the point if the makers of Elite aren't interested.

It speaks volumes that in that same video he mentioned absolutely ZERO about the SC "roadmap" announcement last week and the ensuing backlash from their community.

I'm not fully up to speed but I'm aware of it. Yet despite SC being in perpetual alpha, people seem much more willing to not care that much.

I watch a lot of SC streams now and I must admit, I'm really tempted to go for it. I mourned the loss of Drew Wager from Elite but his SC streams are really compelling. Even he has said he couldn't possibly go back to Elite having experienced SC - especially because of ship interiors. In my view FDev put their foot in it there. I play Elite because of the ships. I therefore want more from my ships.

Anyway that's just my opinion.

Personally, I would much rather they put more resources into really engaging gameplay instead of interiors. Something SC is much, much further away from and why this option is completely out of the question for me.

yea, they've had 7+ years to add engaging gameplay to the roles in the game and have only been able to get us the basics of missions and crafting to layer on the initial gameplay mechanics that debuted at launch in 2015 for the most part. I don't think it's gonna happen. Maybe after powerplay is fully released.

in the meantime, can i offer you this different shade of accent colors for 800 arx for your carrier? (granted, regardless of other content, carrier interiors is going to be successful even if it's not very effective at being good game content because it's the closest thing to player agency in the game we have and that will always be popular)

It's being able to walk around my ship and interact with it and its modules that's making me want to switch. I started playing Elite for the ships. To me its a space flight SIM.. I want my ship to be a place that feels like "my ship" if you know what I mean.

And when was the last time there were new ships in Elite? Years ago. In a space Sim!

I'm not interested in the first person shooter element. Because if I was, there are much better FPS games out there. They should never have gone there... IMO.

My point is, there has been a migration to SC for a reason and I totally get it. So they are doing something worth having.

The possibilit
Their dreams are bigger, that's all. And in the end, we are all big dreamers, aren't we? Can I ask you what kind of "interaction" you expect in the SC interiors that goes beyond what we already know from the concourses?

For my part, I rather expect a new disappointment. Do you still remember the early development phase of the FCs? I found the idea of specialised FCs quite appealing and the actual implementation by means of variable modules rather bland and faceless. I suppose the highest of feelings will be when we are allowed to sit on a sofa or armchair in our own FC. The general euphoria will be boundless... 🤯
I'm not good at putting forward an argument. All I know is I like what I see in SC. The possibilities from ship interiors has a lot of potential. And to me it's not all about gameplay. It's (dare I say it) the immersive factor.

But in SC you can lift hatches and see modules (shields etc) with the idea you will be able to repair or fit them. You can get up out of your chair during flight and do stuff. And when you do a courier mission fir example, it's not just a menu driven click click type of thing. If you fetch a parcel, you've to go pick it up by hand and place it on your ship. Then deliver it by hand. Cargo is a physical thing. You can see it in your hold.

Mining. On big ships you need a crew to operate the ming lasers and refinery. Not cl8ckety click from a menu, you get out of your seat and operate this stuff.

Combat. Crew members can go sit in turrets a la Star Wars.

To me that's what it's all about.

Sorry but I'm off to bed now. I'm knackered 🙂

But at the moment they are just hatches with nothing in them?

Okay, but what happens if your delivery is a car? Or a horse? Do you have to cajole the horse? Where do you get the sugar lumps? Immersion.

Why is lifting a microwave oven sized box the height of immersion? I'm guessing delivering cargo containers the size of articulated lorries won't be something you personally have to take charge of because in reality it actually would be a press of a button. And large cargo IS just a press of button, you don't manually move it all out? Just the individual box cargo?

If delivering individual boxes is immersion, is SC only immersive when it's space Amazon?

I don't want a crew. Is it good or bad game design to not be able to do things as a single nerd in a basement? Not sure. Not sure.

Nope. Components are inside. Ships could carry spares and replace shot out unit.

Nope. Loading the large containers into large holds is coming. Large ships will stay at orbitals while smaller ships bring goods up. Logistics of loading will be part of it.

Recovering some boxes involves searching wreckage in EVA or on planets with wind and weather. Yeah the same pitiful number as 6 years ago but it’s still more interesting than a color gradient.

Everyone says that usually till they get together and do some crew stuff. Mining can be done solo but the mechanics are far more interesting for extracting.

The willful blindness is funny. I’m not claiming it’s not moving at a glacial pace nor that I love CIG overall but good grief.

Tell me about it. In my discord server, ED players are a mere handful but SC players are many times more and seeing their group screenshots makes me feel like taking the plunge too.
