Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

No idea how true this is, but interesting

CIG is not only ignoring a large group of its backer base, but they have also been ignoring the press for the most part for the last two years. I asked a GameStar journalist yesterday why they haven't done an interview in almost two years with them, and he said that they are regularly reaching out to CIG but they keep ignoring their requests. And keep in mind, CIG even did ship promotions with them for e.g. the Cutlass Red (that was the last interview in January 2020). GameStar even published a special version of their magazine featuring Star Citizen with lots of content about it, and GameStar's coverage has been extremely generous over all those years, and all of a sudden CIG starts to ignore them.

So yea, CIG is not only treating the hands that feed them poorly, but also the journalists that want to cover their company and Star Citizen, and then CIG is surprised that they are being perceived so poorly and think that it is because of people reading their roadmap.

Yeah, that always makes me laugh. You'd think with their janky physics they'd go the safe route and just have the objects apply to the body, rather than make the body move.

But i guess someone (Chris probably) said he wanted to see some sort of movement when objects were added, and this is the result.
Makes me wonder if it can be used to glitch faster speeds and that.

Yes yes, of course, its just a vocal minority speaking out against the developer blaming them for the removal of the long term roadmap. Everyone else are good little sheeple.

Spectrum continues to be an amusing read. People offering criticism are being responded to with not just white knight comments but people jokingly telling them to shut up, they will disturb the devs, or that by being critical the coffee vendor will get removed.

Fun times.

What's the source on that one?

I guess I could believe CIG are partially in PR hiding for now. It's been a fair while since the last talking head interview with Chris / Erin in the gaming press or whatever. (And even longer since things like the Red Bull partnership, or the weird Newsweek fluff pieces.)

Their press runs for patches do seem to be limited more to YT bling going out via IGN or whatever. But not so much in the way of talking things up for a while perhaps.

Yonas on Spectrum.

Makes you wonder if CR really does have a gag order on him from Calder.

Imagine if Gamestar did interview him again, how many new things would get promised?!!!

They just had that big article in that magazine that is for game devs a month or two ago.

That was more a business bit of fluff than aimed at gamers.

And if you read my Feb Blog post a few pages back, you'll see how i worked that into a theory that CIG are low on money and CR is trying to sell more of the company. I'm currently now trying to figure out how the Lizardmen and chemtrails fit into all this!

@7:00: "Star Citizen, you're a pretty experience. But you're a joke of a game. Everybody knows it. The roadmap watchers are NOT your problem. You are your own problem. You have not only yourself, but your marketing team to push a FALSE NARRATIVE on what a patch may look like---every quarter FOR ALL THESE YEARS...."

Looks like the Fat Lady may be finally singing to some of the more rational acolytes. Haven't seen SaltEMike (formerly Twerk) so agitated or brutally candid as this. Seems this particular rational disciple finally woke up after 11 blissful years in dreams.txt...

First Montoya now him. At the rate CI is burning through the devotion of its fanbase, it's really alienating key content creators like him and Montoya. Unless of course, the current roadmap PR fallout is a deliberate strategic ploy on CI's part? Could alienation of the fan base really be CI's exit criteria strategy for future? How to legally surrender all accountability/responsibility to the fan base. And walk away from further future development without loosing anymore face or monetary penalties?

That post is nonsensical. The hubris of the roadmap blow up is because the money keeps coming in and CIG doesn't think it will ever stop.

The rate is pretty glacial, because the influencers have been earning well with SC so far. They aren't fanbase - it's more like leeches sucking along a gravy train.

That's because I haven't worked in the Lizardmen yet! Once i do everything will become clear!

Seriously though, we assume the money is coming in because the funding tracker shows it is coming in and CIG's financials appear ok. But others, including some faithful backers have mused if the financials are not as rosy as they appear, so i've basically tried to look at it from the point of view of "what if" CIG's financials are not that good.

I fully admit its a stretch but as i concluded, if (and yes, its an IF) CIG really are struggling for cash, then in the coming months i expect to see either CIG taking actions cut costs (downscaling, not opening new office, shift to fully working from home - basically what happened to SotA) or the announcement of a CR having sold more of the company to an investor.

90 days tops!

It doesn't seem like typical hubris. CIG know the money keeps coming pretty much no matter what they do. They have missed each and every single release date or time frame they have ever given, over and over and over again, yet the money keeps coming in.

The language in that communication is one borne of pressure and fear, not hubris. Something or someone is putting pressure on them to deliver and they are lashing out at anyone they can. It just so happens to be their own customers.

This is my take too. But see: they spank community and it asks for more and money keeps flowing.

The only thing CIG listen to:

They did just sell a bunch of LTI tokens though. Always guaranteed to sell with the ship collectors.

Be more interesting to see the reaction to the valentines sale as that tends to be a bit controversial with the muh immurshun crowd.
