Update on Communication

So there must be elements of King Arthur's kingdom that we haven't been told about. A little/lot of moonlighting for another IP.

A little poking around the Warhammer 40K parts of the forum show that Paul C and Bruce G have been moonlighting as well.
I imagine that because they are Community Managers for Fdev and not just for Community Managers for Elite?

Player numbers are back to 2019 levels after the first expansion since 2015.
Well, they did spike following the 3.3 launch... Oh, were you attempting to be cynical? Sorry....

ETA: 3.3 was the beginning of the real improvements to the game, I was glad to have been playing before then to see how much better the game became. Some players didn't like the ADS going and the introduction of the FSS, but I considered that to be the jewel in the crown. That and Core mining, of course.

You'd think so, but apparently it doesn't work like that.

I am not sure I follow, the reply you quoted was "Yes, exactly what I asked, you said it perfectly. Talking about Elite is done in Elite. Jens isn't on the ED team"

That doesnt say anything about Arf or Bruce? Since I was replying to a comment about those two CM's doing Warhammer 40k as well as Elite stuff I dont see how that quote is relevant to the point I was making?

That whole exchange was a bit odd to me. It was posted in the general Frontier forum, with several updates for several Frontier games...but didn't mention Elite (didn't expect it to honestly), and when people asked it was off-topic and she closed the thread for a short time. Also, how are we to know who is on what team? If you're here regularly you start to recognize the team, but how is someone new supposed to know?

I agree, I've just looked at the thread again.
It's been culled of everything that was deemed as off-topic but there is enough remaining to suggest a forum post in News and Announcements by someone with a job title Senior Community Manager could be legitimately asked the question if there was a planned stream for Elite.

The community managers are not wed to a single game (see Arf & Bruce above) so it could have been possible that Jens (from January 1st) was responsible for covering the communication of ALL Frontier streams...

I know it's probably a little futile to do this at this point in the thread, but there's something I'm curious about.

However, there are several questions that must be answered internally to inform this communication plan. It is important to me that we address key subjects by priority and when we do that the information we provide is clear. The team and I are working incredibly hard behind the scenes to gather this information and provide these answers.

So, I'm going to give the benefit of the doubt here that this can be reasonably interpreted as Arf telling us "I am trying to get actual answers for important questions about the future of Elite, and then bring those answers to the community". Is there any chance that we can be given at least a general idea of what those questions are? Are the discussions about re-evaluating the console release? Are they about the future direction of the game? New feature development?

I feel like the thing that drives people insane is the level of ambiguity. Maybe being given a very general sense of what's being talked about would be helpful? Or maybe at least a very general sense of when we can expect further information? Just something other than "We haven't been communicating, we still aren't ready to communicate, please stand by."

That's exactly it, Mark. I think I said it earlier in the thread, vague announcements that are completely open to interpretation do more harm than just keeping quiet.

We know Sally's on a leave of absence, Arthur, Bruce, and Paul have been active in Warhammer. Zac was ill over the Christmas break, but at least has started posting occasionally again in response to questions. That doesn't leave much of a crew to pay attention to Elite Dangerous community during a period that can only be described as... uncertain. So just adds more uncertainty to it.

Is Arf's internal question "When does the Elite CM team get to go back to focusing on Elite?" or "I'm sick of my lot getting constant abuse about the console release, we're not going back in there until we have information to share?" Maybe its "Are we bringing in new CMs given that most of the Elite team has been retasked?" or one for all the doomers "When do I announce the game's going into maintenance mode after the board decided its not worth the trouble?" Absolutely no way of knowing, because what we got was vague and just drove people to read between the lines. Just "We have things that will be happening, stay tuned for more" but frankly we were told that months ago, and honestly those of us who've been around here long enough knew the promise of better communication was going out the window sooner rather than later because we heard it all before.

I would guess it's something related to this post from December, just before radio silence.

Outside of Fleet Carrier interiors, the development team are hard at work on new features and mission types, such as settlement defence that I cannot wait to share more on. We are also reviewing and assessing a number of areas that you have raised, such as the Engineering process, but as I said, I will leave those details for January!

I imagine they want to know who 3kg of trying time eggs came from.
