Add Opinion Polls, Settlement Defense Plans, and Others to Mission Reward

Pretty much what i'm going for, although i'm also having a shorter range setup with the Eclipse and C44 as well. Basically want to use all large weapon depending on my mood. Well, except the Oppressor, because its pants.

The eclipse is the laser smg right? And the oppressor the plasma shotgun? Whats wrong with the Oppressor? I've mainly just stuck with a laser rifle + rocket launcher + kinetic pistol for my CZ build, the rockets aren't really optimal, a kinetic something would probably be better but honestly if you havn't tried it, the kinetic pistol, I found one with a scope already attached and the thing is a murder weapon once shields are down, even out to range if you can lead shots a bit.

as an aside, the names of the guns aren't working for me, but for some reason they just don't stick. I like the look and sound of everything (well the store skins for the guns suck, but whatever), but the naming convention still has me confused and I've been playing Odyssey since the beta pretty heavily.

No, the Oppressor is the plasma assault rifle thing. It's somewhere between situational and terrible, depending on your play style, because it's not very accurate and has pretty low damage per shot. The shotgun is the Intimidator, and yes it's quite good.

Yeah, Eclipse is the laser SMG.

What is wrong with the Oppressor... well, I won't take this thread down that road, better to check out this thread: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/what-is-the-point-of-manticores-oppressor.582974/

And yeah, i've tried all the pistols. I tend to take the kinetic pistol on some of my builds as backup, its a good weapon.

As for names, well, i just roll with it. I call my Intimidator my boomstick.

huh, well that's too bad about the oppressor...

as in my taxi cab travels this morning I just came across this

if you want it, https://eddb.io/station/32768 where it's currently sitting.

I'd rather not have the mission rewards for things I actually want for multiple mods to be diluted further by a bunch of materials I only need for a one-time unlock and have no other use.

I'd also prefer things to have at least some degree of "if you want to obtain X you have to do Y" rather than the brain-dead-easy "just make everything into mission rewards so the only thing you ever have to do is missions" method. The problem is, as always in this game, that the "do Y" part is obscured, the playerbase are left to figure out what Y is by random experiment with no hints, and doesn't deliver consistent/reliable enough results. It was only this week that a dev hinted that settlement defence plan drops are linked to the security level of the settlement and not the government type - which is what people had been testing before since some other material drops are linked to government type.

sometimes the complexity of this game gets in it's own way, but ya that's pretty silly. It'd be nice if...maybe the engineers who require a thing they want, maybe through a basic conversation tree we could ask them some questions about WHERE we could find it and under what circumstance. Because I already have enough outside sources of programs and sources of info for this game, if I have to watch developer streams, I'm just gonna keep stumbling around or wait till a youtube tutorial pops up on here or reddit.

Yeah.
SDPs in particular are terrible since the drop rate is so rare and they only appear in the most secure room in any given settlement, which only ever has a single data port, so the only halfway reliable way to get them remotely quickly is out-of-game methods like relogging at PoIs.

Bedi Inn in Fullerenes C60. 6 HAB data ports. Or basically any similar settlement. On average you'll get at least one Opinion Poll per run. (as normal, due to RNG you might get a few dry runs, then get 3 at once).

So I tried running this place a few times yesterday, I think I got 3 or 4 before I grew bored. Not a single opinion poll. The base is pretty easy to run through without alerting anyone, grab creds and disable alarms in the power depot, and than just ignore the bar area as it's impossible not to get targeted for scans there. But ya, not a single poll from the habs.

:(

I'm gobsmacked. With 3, even with RNG hating you, you should have got at least one.

Unless something has really changed in the last month or two. But i can't see that, since FD have failed to change anything about drops in recent patches.

Can i offer you 5 opinion polls in this trying time?

Heh thanks for the offer. I'm on PC but I'll take those off your hands, I may have something you'd want in return, I feel like I have every kind of item/data/asset except the ones I need to complete weapon/suit mods. So if you need anything.

Also ya, I'm not sure about the RNG thing, I mean maaaaybe the one or two times the RNG decided that the bar area was the only place they'd have the polls, and because I kept skipping it. But ya, real annoying as I don't need the money off these items and having this high noterity from essentially having to murder hobo really sucks, as trying to do the stealth careful approach gets boring after like a few runs of an area. And I don't wanna be a murder hobo of scientists, I'm just trying to get some upgrades :(

e- currently hanging in my home station's bar https://eddb.io/station/11945 gonna grab a cig and than come back to let my notoriety cool while I plan where I need to go next in my murder hobo adventures.
e2- well I was there, back to the space grind.

I ended up seeing a couple (and some smear campaign plans) in the data ports in the hab and warehouse buildings while knocking over yet another extraction settlement.
Filled up my asset storage again too, even some weapon components and tungsten carbide.

Seriously guys. Extraction settlements. The ports aren't even in restricted areas.

Ah, always check the bar.

Sorry i missed you yesterday. Can try and meet up today. Send me a friend request, in game name: Agony Aunt

I suggested a long time ago a simple idea on how to fix this. But for some reason it is not needed.
Just need to make a choice of matter received as a reward for the mission and that's all.
Everyone will choose a mission of interest to him and choose the material he needs.

Okie dokie, I'll send you a request. I'm Morphixx on there.

Or if maybe there was like an RNG of 2-3 you could choose from, so it's still within reason of what this particular mission giver would offer in exchange, vs missions essentially running under a barter system of modules as currency. because I think if it was literally a drop down list, that'd be a bit too 'gamey' even for me.

But ya that's a great idea, because honestly with the missions giving 4-5 items on the harder difficulty, if you could knock out like 3-4 missions and get yourself a module or weapon/suit upgrade out of it, that'd seem fine.

Just anything, because I spent past two days finishing up grinding extraction settlements, gave up on finishing the engineer unlocks, and on top of all the other grinding in oddssey I had done previously, I was able to purchase pistol + laser rifle g3>g4, one mav g3>g4, two faster handling, 1 noise reduction and a better jump jet for a suit.

This is easily 40-60hrs of gameplay, not all of it hyper focused on optimal item grinding, but still that's all I've pretty much done in oddssey aside from the random CZ when I get bored of being a murder hobo. And like, this seems really excessive. I'm never going to really get a chance to play around with different guns and modules, because this grind is absurd for how little I've actually modified these weapons in any significant gameplay affecting way.

I started playing a bit after Horizons came out, so I wasn't around at the early part of the engineers, which if I understand correctly was also as brutal as this is. And hopefully theres some changes made, because my engineering grind in Horizons seemed reasonable, you could bank items pretty easily for future upgrades, never seemed like you were constantly running out of space without what you needed for upgrades. It just felt so much nicer to do, than whatever this is.

We've discussed it. Adding engineering unlocks to missions dilutes the pool of non-engineer unlock missions. And once you have done the unlocks, it means you'll still be getting offered the stuff you no longer need as a reward and less options of the stuff you do need.

Then people will complain about that!

Unless what you mean is allow people to choose from a wide list of rewards, based on their value? So instead of the current 3 choices, we'd get more of a tree like structure

Data (with sub choices of data)
Assets (with sub choices of assets)
Goods (with sub choices of goods)

When I go to the mission list I get 4 buttons, credits, reputation, materials.
I select materials and get a list of materials as the bartender in the sale.
I choose a material and select the number from 1 to 5 (difficulty).
I get a list of missions.

Ah, so basically reverse it. Yeah, i've given the same idea some thought. It would take a lot of the RNG out of things.

Something I noticed but didn't really thought about too deeply.

Assets are not included in mission rewards, only goods & data.

So you literally have to be a thief to upgrade your suit & guns, no way around it.

Assets are usually kept in unlocked bins and cabinets, and as a rule, if you take them, they are not always marked as stolen.
I don't understand why bartenders in anarchies don't change (albeit partially) goods and data.
Maybe this changeling hasn't shown up in the game yet ?

P.S. Or maybe it's just a bug and no one has reported it to the developers?
