Update on Communication

Hmmm ... ONE post from Frontier, 1065 posts from the community. Anyone else think this conversation is a tad one sided?
There were far more than that number actually made. Some of which were 'on-topic' but swept under the carpet with the dross.

As it stands today, we have been told that we will be told something, considered important, at some point in the future, and that nothing has been said so far as the OP wishes to have the details clarified before posting them.

It's the classic announcement of a forthcoming announcement about a future announcement.

Oh well, I'm confused. Of course I meant pages, man. PAGES... 🥴
that's why I can never get rich, I always mess up the conditions
I always prefer to count in posts rahter than pages, as you can set differnet amounts of post per page in your accounts settings :p

It's not a very accurate measurment of a thread lenght :D

Theres been flurry of activity on the game in the months following release of Odyssey. Clearly theres lots and lots of stuff happening and we see lots of tabgible output from that in the form of game updates - and theres almost certainly more going on than we can see for ourselves.

That backdrop makes these kinds of nebulous communiations even more baffling. I cannot for the life of me understand why comms is chosen to be done in such a way. Theres plenty going on, and plenty to announce. So why not just talk about that tangible, real world stuff on a regular cadence, say once a month, and leave it at that?

I really wanted to go to that - but Cambridge is 5 hours driving for me, and with nobody to look after the dogs now, going was not happening. Tell us about your experience after the event, please!

I'd expect U11 to drop before the meet, possibly other news to defuse the console question, among other things. Wait and see, I guess.
Do you really think that any Console users will be attending?

  • Nothing for Consoles for over a year
  • Any news that will be discussed is DLC, DLC, DLC, U11, Performance, lessons learnt, have a free paintjob/ flight suit outfit.

I can't see anything for console owners.
Such a change since Frontier Expo17.

If I was someone who had responsiblity for communicating news to the ED community, and I had a IRL meetup scheduled immimently, I`d make damm sure that I put something out ahead of that event to try an quieten things down and steer the conversation.

Yep, that's what I mentioned also:

Why?
People can meet, have a drink and feel good without clouding the evening with things that are out of their control

I'm not really up to snuff on what this meet and greet is, but if it's an Elite community meet up and there are FDev employees there....AND there's been no further communication from FDev since Arf's post....well, that's a tough spot in which to wedge your employees. I bet they'd be drawing straws at the office to see which one has to go.

Having been here since 2014, both as a player and as a 3rd party developer of stuff for Elite, this is just par for course, them blowing hot and cold.

Its most likely down to money, it always normally is, and what exactly they are doing this year with Elite, and thus how much can be disclosed to the likes of us.

Well, you know what they say: Never speak ill of the dead (game) 😂

Indeed ... I dare say it will actually be a very pleasant evening. Let's not forget it was originally planned for end of last year when Arf just felt it would be nice (after so long in one form of lockdown or another) to finally have some form of RL social event. It was never intended to be any kind of announcement or showcase event and I think most folks who are going bought into it on that basis. That said, if there's a really significant announcement in the pipeline (good or bad) I can see how it might ... might ... be tempting to tap a glass and make a little speech along the lines of "we're going to be posting this later today but while we have you all here I just wanted to break some news". Kinda wish I was going now.

Exobiology. You have to take three samples instead of one. So? Are you FORCED to participate in exobiology? Does the game MAKE you do it? No, people CHOOSE to do it - most of the ones I've spoken to who are into exploration and that side of the game seem to not have a problem with it.
Thats a lot.... Is there any other exobiology gameplay? No. Then yeah, its FORCED gameplay loop in terms of exobiology , cus exobiology is my thing i wish to play. Its , and i play it cus there is no alternative to it. And no, i dont want to play it in some other game, or some other gameloop, i simply want the to be improved. Why is that wrong thinking regarding anyone that thinks like this? Just cus you and your friends like it? Judging by your tone, and i give my apologies in case i am wrong here, i feel like you are implying that if some people may think otherwise than you in regards to what "grind" means, its wrong by default.
