Update on Communication

I`ve been lurking for a long time now, and though I would chip in with my 2p for what its worth. 1st post, be gentle on me...

Putting the game development issues aside, the glaring issue with the comms is its baffling inconsistency. I find this the post puzzling part, because its so simple to fix and the easiest win for improving the relationship with the forum dwellers, and by extension, improve the customer feedback in the socials.

If you publicly say you are going to do something, either do it, or is there is a problem - post to tell us that. Just stop leaving things to go quiet!
They're Community Managers, not Communication Managers!

Until it is. Eventually the doomsayers are going to be right... but probably not this time.

I'm actually suprised how little attention this sentence has got in this thread...

"The whole team are excited to share all of the upcoming content for this year including new updates, content expansions..."

Which sounds like a sizeable amount of info on the horizon, considering how little is known about the future of elite at the moment, beyond FC interiors. Which frankly, feature list can be summed up in one paragraph. But then what can you possibly speculate on when you know next to nothing?
That sentence hasn't gone over my head alright, but I can no longer get excited over such promises when FDev have a proven track record of overpromising and underdelivering. Last year it was the same, prior to the release - "there's so much more to come, don't you worry" I believe Zac said when asked during a stream, but in the end, the release version was pretty much the same content wise as the 'Alpha' one, WYSIWYG. I still wonder to this day what he referred to when he said it - was it the SRV? The emotes? The FC interiors (which we still haven't gotten a release date for)?

Without providing specifics I won't believe them anything anymore... words are cheap at the end of the day.

Theres two different aspects to that observation. One part thats really quite difficult and expensive to fix, and one which is really quite quick and easy. What baffles me is that the simple part isnt actually deemed by decison makers important enough to bother with, despite the clear difference it does make. Thats what I personally find the most dissapointing part of the whole debacle.

I'd be curious how they manage the community without communicating...
Mental telepathy? Astral projection?
And here's me wearing my tin foil hat. No wonder I'm not getting anything.

But seriously, I don't blame the CMs. They're probably told to not say anything.
Zac didn't mention FC interiors out of thin air. Somebody assured him it was coming and he could tell us.

Not talking to your customers is bad.

I think what would make a fair bit of difference (to me at least) is refraining from announcing announcements (without giving any details on timelines). That grates on me to no end.

Release a planned schedule for the year, this can be high level just to get a rough idea what's coming. Then make the announcements when it's ready, or when something slips if the delay is significant enough (say, from one quarter to the next). If this is not possible then there are larger issues that need to be sorted internally.

That's fair and yes I do take anything that doesn't come directly from Frontier on the subject as a matter of opinion. It's probably more accurate to say I will use YouTube along with comments from PC players on some of the discord groups and maybe some of what's mentioned on this forum to try and get some sort of a balanced opinion.

Trouble is, if I want to see how the game is myself it's unfortunately got to be YouTube until we start seeing dev streams on reccomended (or lower) spec PCs as some kind of progress update (which I don't see happening).

Well, I could buy it for my PC and test it that way, however since the specs for that are somewhere between the stated minimum and reccomended for the game it feels like I'd be wasting my money as things are now since everything I'm seeing says it will be a mess.
I'd say a mess could be an exaggeration but then I don't know your PC specs so you could be right in your particular case. I should try Odyssey on the 1050ti machine with an i5 & 8Gb of RAM, would be curious to see, it ran Horizons reasonably well though it's about seven years old now.

Crap... I like Buur but I hope that guess is wrong...

... but it would make sense...

... crap.
I think its more of a 'what if' due to all the buyouts recently rather than FD having been bought out.

The blurb:

In Elite Dangerous News this week… The Empire wages a war on terror and the colonia bridge nears completion in this weeks community goal triple. As Videogame company buyouts trend is FDEV in the crosshairs? Frontiers meet and greet with the community is one week away & More.

On a side note for the tinfoilery, the weekly streaming schedule for other Frontier games has resumed on Jan 24th, so nearly a month ago. So the current extra month of near-silence for Elite is specific for it.

The blurb:
I think this wouldn’t happens, to get this thoughts only due to the radio silence for one game of Fdev. Then IMO all games would go radio silence not only elite.

when we hit with something, than it is good or bad, but I doubt that this had to do, with speculative buy out of Fdev.

But as Burr pointed out, its not talking about things that affect share price- EDO, console users etc will affect the price (unlike the rest of the portfolio right now) so (although circumstantial) raises fun questions.

I'm interested in murders and executions.
I mean mergers and acquisitions.
Ah well, it's not all doom & gloom though.
Elden Ring is out next week.
I pray to God it's not another Cyberpunk 2077.
Or Oddy.

Had just in this moment read an statement from Ubisoft and was surprised, that they stated ,,we are open for every offer,,. So the chances raised at the moment for every developer or publisher, to be bought by a larger company. Interesting topic.
