Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

That's a decently high end system as of today in 2022. "what gets released" pushes us way beyond 2030's and there will be a few generations of graphics processors until then. Expect 2030 Star Citizen to require what follows RTX, 128GB RAM at least, and a 20th gen CPU...

Nah it will be optimised to run on 64gb ram so it can launch on x-cloud premium - you won't even need a PC (I'm playing via cloud already)

Ah, the power of the cloud machines. That’s exactly how Server Meshing is going to work…

We're going to have this sort of mesh of servers, so we'll be able to have, hopefully, a large amount of players all in the same area, so we won't have to instance it, in the way that originally we were thinking we'd have to instance it. We have a kind of different server design now that could potentially have thousands of players all in the same sort of area at the same time, which would be really cool. Because that's something that again, it's not something that you could get a while, y'know, a year ago or ten years ago, but you know with sort of the newer tech, the power of the machines, kind of some of the stuff you can do in the cloud, the possibility is sort of opened up and you want to utilize it.

It’s ok, you can tell us friend. Are you actually Chris Roberts?

They dont have anything more than1 or maybe 2 systems. The rest is hot air coming from the rear. Hot now but soon cold, damp and just smelly
That could be the case...my point being, even they had more, there's no way they'd release it because
a) money keeps pouring in, so why fix what isnt broken
b) you'd see issues you never thought were there before i.e. has to be less than x number of planet bodies per system
c) things that seem like no issue, are i.e. everything is static/not a space simulator just a game

As I recall it was 110 sold. In lore there are 180 systems.

What happens on day 2, when all those systems have been explored, and someone asks about system 120 of 180? Of course that is 100 years away, at this pace, but do they then promise 70 more systems? Wow, big numbers for those guys lol.

Day 2? Really? You play Elite Dangerous, by day 2 everyone will have been to every system hundreds of times! The only way 100 system could last until day 2 would be if they made interstellar jumps prohibitively time wasting, like at least a couple of hours warmup to jump, then it might get to day 2!

There is no spoon flight model...

So landing as a mini game? yeah no thanks, ironically they tried that, balancing thrusters, decent angles and all that nonsense was a big thing pushed by CIG at one point and everyone hated it because no one wanted a land your space craft simulator. Even i made a post on it saying exactly that.

See a landing pad, come barrelling in way too fast, flick the ship round like some Space Break Turn while to landing gear is extending, slam the after burners on, roule it round to the right way up and plop it down on the pad with barely a compression of the suspension like a boss is not realistic, but it is a lot of fun!

Go back a few dozen or hundred pages and you'll see a discussion about how some backers want it to literally take days or even weeks to travel to another system.

I don't think he's suggesting CIG go that far. I think he's showing the other game as one extreme and SC as the other extreme.

Okay I did not expect this.

I try to get another beer from the bartender, he says "One second alright", he then moves over to the NPC at the bar, the NPC says "Give me a beer", then he pours him one, brings it to him, the NPC says "thanks" and drinks it. The bartender then comes back to me and the bartending UI appears. I say "Exit" because I dont want another one.

Another surprise, the NPC finishes drinking his beer, the bartender comes and takes the empty glass and stores it. Then proceeds to clean up the counter. Wow.
Actually revolutionary Bartender tech. I honestly didn't think they were capable of this. Subsumption! Chris Roberts is declared god.

Naah, the game has no private groups and no solo. Probably only way to travel to the other system is by jumpgate or somesuch chokepoint. So, @sovapid & co. will take care of that, having a blast at either end of the jumpgate. ;)
