Lol this crap just doesn't get old to me

A: 'You've died.'

A: 'I've absolutely no idea. You've literally just fallen down dead.'

A: 'Ummm. No. I.. I... I... genuinely have no idea what happened there. Usually there might be some explanation.'

A: 'But what's happened there is, you've perished'.

A: 'Now, I think you mayyy, have simply run too fast'.

B: 'THIS ISN'T A GAME!'

A: 'Did you press backspace? Because that's suicide.'

B: 'I was pressing W! Running forward!'

The difference is FD has still a bit of moral integrity on what they owe for money people give them. SC development is full of self-serving entitlement.

Not after odyssey. They materially lied / obfuscated about the system requirements. I know, my main desktop cannot play elite anymore and it checks out based on the steam page. Lieing when you can get away with it sometimes doesn't make you not a liar. Sure one is worse but on the other side of the line it doesn't matter that much.

The rest of the gaming industry, pretty much all of it, doesn't require players be aware of substandard software during every minute of the experience. Even the evil publishers know better.

Loving the bizarre 'butler on coke' narration style 😁

I'm glad he's got it all figured out. The Kotaku coverage was "inflammatory", mocking jpeg sales is "ridiculous", and at worst SC may remain in a state of "not quite realized potential". If it doesn't become the BDSSE.

But my does he have some harsh words for the poor abandoned ex :/

Performance is "superior and more consistent than some other space games of comparable type which claim to be fully released". There are detailed working interiors, with functioning drawers and everything, rather than "a soulless series of menus and fade to black transitions". And SC's lore has not been "cheapened" by "tawdry and out-of-place" Halloween costumes...

The stories Drew is gonna spin around SC. He is genuinely going to have a whale of a time :)

Definitely a successful spite pledge. There was at least 3 indirect jabs at elite, even forgetting no mans sky exists just to have a swing.

Well star citizen is a great idea, it’s just a shame theres an object foulness in the development studio, again same as other space games but to a different degree.

Hopefully Bethesda has some space flight component in their upcoming game. After mass effect and swtor I’m absolutely done with the BioWare reskinned same game formula so hopefully it’s more open world too.

Ironically the only thing that can now save the entire space game genre is an evil publisher.

This video is not directly related, but hits many familiar points:

All obvious comparisons to CIG aside, this video just points out everything that is wrong with the world atm. Just believe any crap anyone says on the net, don't bother with evidence, scientific verification, reproducible results, real world knowledge. Just have faith! Personal belief is all that matters! What a bunch of dumbasses.

Looking at the Steam stats for the many space games available now, the genre is doing very well and doesn't warrant "saving" :D

If you play other games, it’s easier to have that opinion. I get that many people who play elite only play space games so that also makes sense.

But everything from integrity of software through presentation and narrative is done better outside the genre. At least meeting peer standards is good if you’re going to hold something to equal esteem.

Edit: this is doubly so with service games. In reality to justify continuous monetisation they’re often the highest quality. Elite from launch felt like a studio experiment at an online game than an actual mmo. I’m guessing you remember the early days. At least there’s always been the feeling that the development of elite is closer to single player at heart, considering lack of balancing, and skeleton features. If anything online is probably no more than an internal excuse to justify mvp, rather than player expectations from playing traditional mmos.

Oh dear...

"
I couldn't speculate, I have no idea how this sort of thing works. My only option is to have faith that CIG knows what they're doing. I don't know what level of risk this is, but because I'm so extremely risk averse, I can imagine it would be a terrifying situation if I were in charge.

Keep this in mind, Chris probably knows a fair bit about business administration. Not only from games, but also from producing movies. @Ortwin_Freyermuth probably has even more, he's an accomplished lawyer. And they have a huge pool of industry veterans like @Erinroberts_cig, @ToddPapy, Brian Chambers etc backing them up. I find that encouraging."

oh dear, oh dear, oh dear, oh dear, oh dear, oh dear, oh dear, oh dear, oh dear.....

Funny thread.

Someone asks about CIG paying out to investors and they show the dividend payment in 2020, and have a good old debate about that, but totally fail to note the 5 million directly paid to Calder!
