For anyone wondering how Bog’s '24 Hours Without Dying Challenge' is going:

'What the DEUCE?'

The game really is breaking some of the more mild mannered proponents of the last few years.

They're still in there, they're still plugging away. But I'm not sure they should be...

Many striking quotes in there, but think my fave bit was when he read out a chat quote like it was pharmaceutical side-effect blurb

"SCisoneofthosegames, whenitWORKSit'samazingandoneofthebestgamesoutthere, butwhenitdoesn't, ohman."

Then went back to despairing about the networking at length, via self-censored swears ;)

So it's an old comm relay?
Yup. It was in use up to the end of WW2 as the islands were a huge military base during both world wars. On this island we had an RAF coastal command airfield plus army here and there...the Royal Navy had Scapa flow on the main island as their base for the home fleet. That lot supplied the first telephone services on the island too by putting up most of the phone lines.

OMG, Scapa Flow - yeah, I just went there in the subsims. Uboat was a nice depiction. I dove in, spotted the Nelsons sent out the eels and was like dozens of ships if not a hundred going active looking for enemies. In shallow waters.

Which Subsim? i used to play Silent Hunter III, a lot...
Same, SH3 with the GWX mod...I still have an active subscription at subsim.com :D

Scapa flow has some nice diving trips there now exploring the remains of both HMS Royal Oak (sunk by Gunther Prien's U-47 in 1939) and the warships left from the German fleet scuttled there after WW1.

UBOAT is the most recent. Pretty decent and worthy successor to SH3 GWX. You can move around the sub and do it all manually (order stuff around, do the manual Torpedoziellösung and that jazz) or manage from a side view. Immersive. Decent sim mechanics. A bit clunky UI but I can only recommend it. It is close to release from Early Access. They did a good job. I use a mod that adds the Torpedovorhalterechner but I always forget how to use it properly.

Wow, what a small word, i was subscribed to some Subsim forum, can't remember if it was subsim.com or an alternative, haven't been there for years, i was also a member of an org, we did all the Sub stuff in coop with the GWX mod, can't remember the name of the org, i miss those days.

Subsim.com is the goto place if you're looking for decent simming advice.

Yeah haven't been there for years, i'll have a look back, see if i can't rekindle my love of sneaky warfare, i do have a couple of games on my Steam wish list, Wolfpack and Uboat, they are there for nostalgia intrest, don't know how good / bad they are or how active their communities are.

I've got a lifetime subscription at subsim.com...had that for a lot of years, since the early 90's when SH3 was released at least. I still play SH5 (with a few mods) occasionally...tried U-Boat as well but I was put off a bit with the sims-like crew micromanagment mini-game...besides that, U-Boat is very good

Wolfpack is a MP game - it's not really fun in SP. It is meant as coop experience. It's just that manning the depth rudder and rudder isn't the hottest activity. I did so with a crazy guy after initial release. AI fires center mass, so we needed to go deck awash but that is only possible manually. AI shoots the water and crazy guy operates gun while deck is awash. It is also possible to not only co-crew but play with several U-Boats - each with crew (but you can't see them - there is no window on type VII I don't think there are on any sub. And I don't really know why there would be windows on starships. They say the Expanse gets it right.)

Great thanks

I have SH5... anyway, lets stop there before we get pulled for going off topic :)

It's got the rotation system now and I figured out some roles that keep the officer management to minimum. They just rotate too.
