Monitors are rubbish for sit down simulators type gamed like Elite. The world is flat 2d and the scale iis wrong. I'd rather play a boardgame version than use a monitor. Monitor users who tried but didn't like VR are about as lame as you can get. They have to troll around VR threads trying to convert others to their wrong headedness.

Iron Rebellion, VTOL VR, DCS, AMS2, all would all be dull as ditchwater on a flat screen.

No; The sort of individuals who hop into their forum boats to go trolling never have actual interest in debating or proselytizing, nor in whichever topic may be at hand (it's just easier to get a bite in some waters); Only to get the fish hooked and worked up, which gives them some sort of sick sense of smugness or something.

Mission accomplished.

Must admit this one just about had me there for a while, in spite of their previous behaviour, with line after line of perfectly reasonable opinion, but nope: "Psyche!" - he could go into the wooden horse business.

+1 from me. Would be a good USP for Odyssey, and probably fairly minimal effort for a very basic VR implementation. Unless all the devs are working flat out on other exciting features of course...

Since patch 10.3 dropped. In fact no.... My love for elite in VR occurred the day I donned what was at that precise moment, an unwanted Christmas gift from the missus, a Rift S. And fired up elite for the 1st time ever having never played on pancake.
What happened next changed gaming for me forever. I s**t you not. That profound.

Course now 2 years later I've a fancy chair a g2 a fancy rig and a x56 bolted to said chair...and experiencing elite oddity in all its post 10.3 glory. 😲
It looks like no other.
Low res flat colours yada yada I don't think so. I'm full on 4k with lighting and sliders on ultra etc...thx to geforce experience tweeks. To say I'm playing elite in some crap resolution so on is just a flat lie.
If you've never experienced it stay silent don't troll. Cos you don't know what your missing. And this subject needs to be almost top of the list for fdevs.

Once I started playing in VR I now can't play any other way

I suspect like others, I can play Horizons with pretty much everything maxed; but I can't get Odyssey working in even a reasonable manner. Shame because other players are moving to Odyssey and I can't join in

Id even be happy if at least one of the external camera views would default to the commanders eye level rather than only left or right shoulder. Such a small thing you would think would take them very little coding effort to add.

have you tried recently ? I have admittedly a top of the range pc but when ED:O launched its performance was awful. I left the game for 6 months or so but went back recently and performance has certainly significantly improved. I don't play VR ultra but am not far off it now. I was not close to this before.

Guys it's the dogs Bz Trust me.
Once you got your hud modded right (it's not lagging you out, trial n error) and steam slider on default, let the geforce experience optimise you, your away!! It's fab!!
I'm mostly on ultra. Steam slider defaults to 73%. Adequate.
Pc win 11 set to quality mostly.
3060 is overclocked. But by geforce experience once again.
Sold me soul here did away with my custom and went wholesale into it.
And it works!!

surely that depends on your headset. there is zero chance a 3060 would run my reverb G2 very well. would probably have more luck with a rift CV1
btw I am not an expert with geforce experience so maybe I did it wrong or it has improved since I tried... but geforce experience cost me a number of FPS having that running. I got noticeable better performance uninstalling it and setting manually.

Well it's running my g2 fine. Honest I play almost daily in oddity with no adverse fps loss except occasionally at orbitals if there's lots of traffic

Ok, while I feel bad for console CMDRs now that fdev announced they're dropping console support completely, I kinda cautiously wonder if vr development would be back in the cards now that they'll continue on pc only?

Yep, good time now for them to concentrate on PC and re-engage with the VR aspect, A lot of Quest 2's sold last Christmas..
