Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

While CIG is on a content/comedy hiatus, I can highly recommend this time travel device :)

Only when it works, that utility is very unreliable especially for recent posts/comments - it does find great stuff though 😀

The modtools search we get is far better but can only be used if they've posted on a subreddit i've moderated

There's people with lots of hours in SC, they may be masochists, but they enjoy their time! Random pewpew is a complete gameloop! Mining is a completete gameloop!
The mining in Star Citizen looks fun, but I've got a question about it being a complete gameloop. The gameloop is that money from mining is spent upgrading equipment and ships? But the game is still in alpha? There are still gamewipes? How can these activities be considered full gameloops if any money you make doing them are going to vanish out of your hands?

No no no the product is released! Or is it! Or is it not.... Again 400 million over a decade is absolutely nothing! Warzone made a billion in the first week! It's not "normal" but, why should it be? Normal is boring!

Cope & Seethe! It is what is is, tons of players left ED before all of its promises were fulfilled! Even after 8 years in development it's still not delivered on all of them! Shameful! People leave games, did the thought that people actually live lives ever come to your mind? Crazy, I know! There's life beyond videogames! Some people want to engage in this life more than others, and thus, decide to stop playing a game! What an alien concept!

Woah there, it's all getting a bit

Not enough exclamation marks. Try harder to punch above your weight.

No, no. I think it is actually just about you that cannot for some reason comprehend that there is nothing normal in an Alpha that has wasted 500 million over 10 years without releasing a single product. It is probably a record of misrepresentation, wasted resources and non delivery. To top it all off the fact that players are actually leaving the game and the community before even release is abysmally shameful.

What I find funnier is not that people are getting fed up and quitting. Its the posts from people who have already forgotten about it. You occasionally see posts from people saying:

"Oh, Star Citizen? Totally forgot about that. I got a game package with my (some card that is not suitable for SC) graphics card years ago. Its still not released?"

Spectrum time

Complaint about jumptown. The faithful are immediately there..

This is an ALPHA, that wasn't an event meant to be fun, it was a test to make future dynamic events better

Ummm.... isn't this like the 4th or 5th time they've now run an event?

Funny

Dreams.txt about NPCs. If NPCs acted like players it would be a nightmare. They would run everywhere. They would kill and teabag players randomly. They would camp stations and kill people taking off.

The last thing any game needs is NPCs that act like players!!!

Ooooh, spicy question

Oh gods, and people are dodging the question. They keep spouting but its going to be a PVA game! Do they not want to answer the question?

And this one is so funny. What publisher would touch SC with a 10 foot pole?

Well, this is the 10+ year since development start but many backers are happy to rationalize a grossly incomplete, broken tech demo of a product yet to be released with “alpha” still after all the time and money wasted so… anything goes really 🤷‍♂️

Wow, what a hilariously bad video 😁

Despite what that guy thinks, iCache hasn't been implemented into the game in any significant way. It's now being worked on as the Entity Graph. IE: "the new version of what was being called the iCache before". Most recently described as: "an evolution of the original iCache".

The point about the 'coffee cup gameplay' is that it represents that fundamental building block towards Server Meshing. The wait for both of which still continues...

At least he undercuts his own clickbait by noting that both he and chat still see disappearing 'coffee cups' all the time...

And people certainly experience worse ;)

Bonus lols:

  • 30ks are totally going to come back with when they start implementing the new networking ;)
  • His intro on the imaginary 'fulfilled promise' featured these images from Citcon 2019, which was itself stuffed with unfulfilled promises ;)

The footage in questions discusses these undelivered large planetary outposts, with multiple entrances and mission opportunities. Which were supposed to lead on to towns and villages...

Whatever happened to the stealth mission and mechanics displayed there. Or the AI that could enter ships for that matter?

On NPCs transitioning between physics grids:

FTR is talking about this bit:

Citizencon 2019:

Todd Papy said:
So another big thing that was just seen was basically AI transitioning from one zone to another zone.
Chris Roberts said:
So like Todd was saying its early stages yet, but you know we have AI transitioning between zones and grids, nav meshes, so theoretically you can have an AI come fly, a whole group of AI fly in, land a whole bunch of troops get out. Say the back of a Cutlass as reinforcement in combat and you fight. Which is you know something we haven't been able to do up today

Attempts to get NPCs onto, and off, ships have a long and storied history it seems.

For example, they were working on getting NPCs moving around inside mobile multicrew ships as far back as:

July 2015:

This is the first step for us to be able to handle AI NPCs moving inside a multicrew ship or any large moving object in the world.

---

Not much chatter in recent years about aspects like Multicrew NPCs, or transitions (beyond general discussion of the proposed planetary navigation for NPCs). But they do seem to be attempting 'AI EVA Tech', which involves ship transitions:

First mentioned early in 2019 seemingly (With BoredGamer expecting it within 12 months). Currently...

The latest roadmap task has ended. Still not in the game though.

---

Conclusion: NPCs still don't enter or exit ships ¯\(ツ)/¯

Ok, that was way more analysis than that bizarre bit of copium deserved. But hey, things are slow in CIGland ;)
