Awful news. Been playing since PS release (which I know isnt as long as either of the other versions) and ploughed so much time into trying to keep my small squadron of 14 players entertained each weekend so that their interest doesnt wane ready for Odyssey once it finally gets here.
The most painful part is watching all of the content from afar, and defending Frontier from people saying "it'll never come".
The fact it literally says 'Odyssey Compatibility Version' on the title screen will be a constant FU aswell.
Its ashame the business side dont have the same dreams and goals as the development side, or the connection with the players as the community managers, or even the same imagination as the actual players themselves.

Thanks Dave. You've alienated and then abandoned a loyal section of this amazing game that could've had so much potential all for the sake of the Top Line of a Financial Statement.


*edit: sadly, like many others I dont have the expendable cash for a gaming rig. Especially since buying a ps5 in the hope if my ps4 couldn't run Odyssey my current gen console would :(

They'll be consolidating what they have. Hopefully get the game to a point that's attractive to new players and increase the PC numbers further.

The fact that Fdev doesn't already have a solution for transferring CMDRs from consoles to PC means they don't intend to do it.

Think about it. They didn't reach the conclusion to scrap console ED yesterday. They have already known. They understood that the announcement would create a lot of negative feedback. Having an option ready for us when announcing would probably help smooth things over, and Fdev understands this.

Yet, they made the announcement, with no mention of any kind of compensation or alternative solution. If my intel is correct, Fdev has made a similar transfer of accounts from Epic at some point. So it should be doable.

Fdevs silence tells me that they plan to weather this storm.

I'd still love to know why they chose Odyssey's design goals and features given how not even EVE online could manage such a feat without great pain and overall user apathy. It is pretty consistently said on the forums that Odyssey doesn't add much to Elite as a concept. The same apathy that you could have forseen by studying eve for the features is there.

The minority of these 'pc elitists' keep dancing happily on the grave about the freedom it gives pc. Ok sure, but was it really WORTH it? Was what is as a design concept 'Odyssey' REALLY worth this huge chunk of their market? No. I don't believe so. There could have been a different set of features for Odyssey and improvements to CC Thargoids and the Horizon available planets via Xenobiology. You didn't need to add basically any of the Space Legs that got implemented. Ship interiors could have been handled by Console fine given it is a much more contained instance.

So what is it, pc elitists? Are you REALLY happy with Odyssey so much so that losing your brethern and a sizeable chunk of funding for future development was worth it when you could have had something slightly different and kept it? From the sound of some of you it sounds more like you are just happy console version is dead. Find a different place to dance on the grave of console. Here is not the right place or time for it.

Finally a proper DOOM thread. David Braben himself posts in the forums and the thread is not full of "thank you for communicating" wow!
Cheer up, there will be lots of stufs to be haved from console users, for all the stuf hasers out there, this time for real.
And don't worry.. dropping the console market, will be good for the future of ED.

The classic, whatever happens in ED, a game that Frontier are solely responsible for, it is never Frontier’s fault, somebody else has always fouled up.

Frontier didn’t have to support consoles, but they did, so this is entirely on them.

Frontier developments has officially announced that they do not care about their console players and have left us with less than half a game and this after making fleet carriers available only to players willing to devote the majority of their time to it thereby making it impossible for casual players to have access to the carriers the new content.

of course the best way to attract new players is to dump a significant percentage of your existing player base with zero compensation when development gets a bit difficult😂!

Admitted I've not been the most vocal person on here but have enjoyed my time, I do think Frontier dropped the ball on this one and its been handled very badly PR wise. I played Elite Dangerous for the community side of it and from what I see a lot of squadrons are already disapating, the PC offer thing won't affect my decisions not because I don't have the ability ( I don't by the way the Nhs is not known for its pay benefits) its more I no longer "trust" FDEV on what they say so on that point there's not much point me hanging around here. @Arthur Tolmie Hope a lesson is learnt from how this was handled and good luck with Odyssey it evidently needed quite a big sacifice to keep it going, possible positive for maybe able to get through the streams without the console question weighting you down, Guessing that PS5 stream is no longer going to happen lol o7
