Update 11 Patch Notes

Thanks for deleted bindings. I am a bit tired of this. I'll come back in a few years to see if anything changed for better, if the game will still be up.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't we get a reply from CM not too long ago confirming that existing Horizons services would be linked with their Odyssey counterparts and available from the get-go (for instance Cartographics would automatically give you Vista Genomics, et cetera)?
No. It was only stated that having the Shipyard service would give you the shipyard in the carrier concourse too.

Can’t log in today, so annoying!
Really looking forward to jumping my fleet carrier.

Question. The protect missions.
Ate they on-foot or ship based?

Thanks

I'm having a little trouble accepting that I even need to install the darn Bar as a separate service despite it heavily being featured with the same screenshot in every U11 thread. My new and improved FC crew is so ashamed they won't even show themselves.

Not quite; it really only applies to the shipyard, in that if you have that installed then you get the on foot shipyard room as well.

The other three, Pioneer, Vista and the bar, do not have direct ship equivalents so they are separate services.

Vista and IC are not the same thing, so having one already does not give you the other.

Why are the FC jumps an hour now rather than 15 minutes and why oh why are the services 5m per service per week it’s stupid, thought we sorted this rubbish the first time around, seems we take 2 steps forward and 1 step backwards

Destroy any semblance of balance that ships had?

I understand why it was added, though it's not entirely for the reasons you suggest it is a good enough time sink as any. But Elite doesn't have "end game", it never has, although that's another discussion entirely.

end-game isn't something needing developers to design on purpose. It's an artifact of the game. What does a game do that makes the only thing players have agency over (acquiring things) once the player has acquired everything?

A proper sandbox game with "no end game" would have made the focus of the game on manipulating the environment. But FDev has gone out of their way to ensure that players can not manipulate the environment (BGS) in any meaningful way. (EDIT: or some other neverending thing related to community created content, etc. Also things fdev has not embraced in ED by providing an in-game means of such content)

So players are left focused on the acquisition of things ....and this most certainly has an end.

Engineers was designed to extend that end indefinitely. In a much more flexible and easy to deploy way than creating more modules or more ships or more variants of both.

Did it destroy balance, sure. But it's intention wasn't to make the game better. It was to extend the addiction cycle of gameplay and keep players playing. This was the easier/cheaper option over improving the framework of alternative objectives players could have in continuing to play the game.

These design decisions can be found in other aspects of the engineering feature as well. Like how they're insurable. How? That makes no sense in-game. And fdev has never tried to make sense of it. Because engineers were not implemented to make sense or be anything more than an easier means of dangling a carrot in your reward hungry brain so it keeps playing ....that's as far as it was thought out.

I'm unable to find the comment at this time, but I'm pretty sure we were led to believe that IC and Vista would be the same service and that Pioneer was linked to either the Shipyard or Outfitting. I guess I completely misunderstood it. Oh well, it doesn't really matter anymore.

First point is already explained, to spread the load from all the carriers jumping around to install new services / just to watch the pretty jump lights. It'll settle down and the times will shorten again.
Second point is because all we carrier owners are filthy rich and therefore they can soak us for it.

Is your Carrier named "The Shire"? Because if it isn't, it should be.

I somehow got the same impression... obviously and disappointingly, it proved to be wrong
