But hey, if CIG should close up shop because they're incapable of releasing what they pre sold, FDev should do just the same thing.

Nah, FDEV´s record is quite solid so far in terms of actual Elite releases. In addition to the released base game we have:

Many of those original plans and intentions (ship interiors is but one) have already come to pass by the way. From Newsletter 29 where FDEV outlined what they intended to do wrt future content DLCs after initial release:

For example, our current roadmap is to add (in no particular order):
  • Landing/ driving / prospecting on airless rocky planets, moons & asteroids
  • Walking around interiors and combative boarding of other ships
  • Combat and other interactions with other players and AIs in the internal areas of star ports (Note: EDO on the other hand offers combat in interiors of settlements and on all planetary surfaces though)
  • Accessing richly detailed planetary surfaces
  • Availability of giant ‘executive control’ ships to players
  • Green is released: With EDH, EDO and Fleet Carriers. Although first person combat happens rather outside star ports not inside.
  • Red is not delivered yet: no ship interiors indeed yet.
  • Orange is partially delivered: EDO´s thin atmospheres, updated planetary surfaces and new biologicals. Not yet delivered things like thicker atmospheres, liquid masses or prominent flora and fauna.

On the other hand CIG has wasted around 450 millions so far (and are still charging) and this is the list of products actually released over 10+ years:

-Explorable gas giants were shown in one of the early dev diary videos, where, braben?
-Damage models for ships, only the anaconda has one
-Shield generators that are split into 4 sections, originally planned for bigger ships with smaller ships having bubble shield, however every ship has one large shield now.

This isn't even a comprehensive list.

Ahhh, but my dear Ebob - what about the really important stuff that is fundamentally and absolutely critically vital for any SPAEC GAEM.

Is there a bartender?
Bartenders ARE vital to the experience, really!

Odyssey thankfully delivered on this, oh.. what's that? Oh no they did not, no... Well damn, they managed to turn a bartender into some engineering material grindfest trader. Good job FDev! Can't even buy a damn drink.

To be fair, a lot of times you cant buy a drink from SC bartenders either but they're atleast funny! You know, the turning their head 360 degrees while T-Posing funny.

The design flawed, far from perfect, ugly duckling that doesn't know what it wants be but will always try to kill you... that no one hates, even if they don't like it, and some people don't, no one hates it, because how could you? Cutlass Black.

Remember kids. Don't huff JPGs.

Well until the next patch goes live! And then it goes down again... and then up, and down, and up, and down. But hey, still active enough for them to have made over 200k last hour.

But yeah, if you're talking about a game for years over 12 discussion threads, the latest one amassing over 2.3k pages, it's only natural for things to get stale, or as I say it:

The dead horse has been turned into mush and composted!
The game is stale, the comedy is golden!

Context on Star Marine:
  • Star Marine was first hyped as the 'FPS Demo' in November 2014
  • It was supposed to come out around April 2015
  • Development went badly, for some familiar reasons. (Scope creep, performance issues due to asset load, inefficiency due to asset share across multiple titles, etc).
  • Star Marine was officially released in January 2017. Minus previously planned aspects such as arrival on site by ship and scripted missions etc.
You missed the best bit, when Roberts had a little tantrum and claimed it was already in the game, before they went on to release it anyway as a MVP cobbled together out of spare parts
