Spring 2022 dlc

Totally random idea, but what if the actual base game update is not only flying mechanics but a handful of "core" birds as well? And then we don't get an aviary pack but we get 2-3 birds mixed in with each pack instead. And then the upcoming DLC could be something like Amazon with several more birds in with that.

Unlikely, but a thought.
Here we go with the expectations again

Favorite is probably the wrong word to use!

I was REALLY disappointed to not get Platypus, Tree Kangaroo, and Echidna.

And I REALLY REALLY wanted kiwis (from New Zealand) but the rest of Oceania was left out.

Even if my favorite 4 Australian animals were added it wouldn't matter since the dlc was so small and only 4 animals...and my Australia zoo still looks empty adding those 4 animals to it. I would have preferred quantity for a region completely underrepresented.

Then we eventually got an Australia dlc that had none of my favorite Australian animals in it 👍 And ONLY four...

Good times.
Yeahhh... I'm still not thrilled with the Australia Pack lineup. Within North America and Europe at least, koalas are a rarity at best (not to mention they don't behave like actual koalas in game). Cassowaries are far less common and less iconic than emus. I don't have any hard numbers to back this one up, but I also think dingos are relatively uncommon in NA zoos at least. The one great inclusion does nothing to make up for the three less than ideal ones. It probably wouldn't have been too popular, but my ideal Oceania Pack would've been red kangaroo, Bennett's wallaby, whichever tree kangaroo, and emu. Yeah, it's three "kangaroos" but it's infinitely more reflective of what an actual non-Australian zoo's Australian sections would look like.

Of course, this all becomes a non-issue if we ever do get some substantial followup for Oceania on the whole (although I'll still think the dingo was a wasted opportunity).

I love the cassowaries T_T

That deep rumbly sound they make is terrifying.

Yes, well...

This game is played by more than just Americans and Europeans.
I know that. Obviously. That really shouldn't have been your sole takeaway from what I'm saying.

Shouldn't it have been possible to strike a better balance? I can't imagine that cassowaries are more common than emus in any areas outside of their native region, or that koalas are common at all in any non-Australian areas for that matter. Maybe I'm totally off the mark here. But I can't help but think that it would've been very possible to come up with a selection that's simultaneously more representative of international Oceanian collections without making it less representative of what's actually kept locally. Like, not even necessarily the lineup I proposed. I'm certain they could have done better.

The emu should have been in it over the cassowary, yes, but omitting the koala wouldn't have been wise I don't think. They are almost as popular as pandas in the zoos that have them. Looking at your list on your earlier post, in the nicest way possible a kangaroo, wallaby, tree kangaroo, and emu makes for a pretty sad pack for Australia's first (and possibly only) outing.

The best version of the Australia Pack I think is the kangaroo, emu, koala, Tasmanian devil/wombat mix. I swing for the devil because it's endangered.

That I actually agree. Tassie devils should have been in the roster rather than dingo. The devil's are primely Australian while dingoes are more of Papua New Guinea origins...

I love this idea of getting a flying bird! I think if they do it and dlc really Amazon rainforest dlc then I think they will choose Macaw I would be so happy to get them but I don't know if it really will happen 💚 🦜

Not to mention that it would help show off the continent's endemism much better than the introduced dingo occupying a quarter of the roster

Looking at the active player base in Planet Zoo it used to be very consistent with ups and downs in the same range for the last years, but it has been very noticably declining since february and march 2022 to a current all time low, so this would make me think an aviary pack would be necessary for them to really revive the player base again.

Probably gonna receive some hate for this, but I'd totally prefer that over an aviary dedicated DLC. Birds, bats, etc. in following packs.
That way, we get more versatility with the flyers, because they won't be stuck in 1 DLC, but spread out across multiple (assuming we get flying)

It's interesting that all the peaks except the first one are right about the same place. This may be obvious but I'm guessing that there's a segment of players that lose interest until the newest content comes out, and then they lose interest again in about a month. Which is fine, absolutely nothing wrong with that, they are just as much players as those who continue to play regularly in the lulls between packs as well.

But you're right, it's dipping to an all time low, which I'll guess that the longer between news on new packs, the more people lose interest. Just the nature of gaming, I'll suspect most of those players will return for a bit when the next pack comes out. Which is great because that's still sales in Frontier's eyes; and as much as they may be passionate about the game ultimately it's sales that will keep the game going.
