What's next?

Probably best to check the roadmap.

I approve of the potential chance for carriers to pass thru a hell dimension where we pick up some hitchhikers and we have to fight off demon infested npc crew in our carriers before they take control over the command systems and take us back to the hell dimension permanently (where we lose the carrier and end up back in space dock without our ships as well). This would make the next 25 carrier jumps kind of game-like, instead of an uneventful time sink that will periodically force me to mine tritium - which is in of itself, an uneventful and tedious time sink you barely need to be conscious for.

We now have a bar on the carrier and are comfortably seated.
Does this mean that Odyssey is complete, apart from the usual bug fixes?
I don't want to ask for a roadmap directly.
Now that I'm comfortably seated I ask myself: are you a troll? Because that really sounds like it....

That question doesn't seem very intelligent, so I suspect you're a troll, or so it sounds.
Trolls have the stupid habit of getting personal for no reason. Read my posts.

No, it's just just that asking questions that are actually critics hidden behind questions is a classic way to pretend to be naive and get reactions. Or maybe I got it wrong, so let me ask: why do you think that Odyssey is now complete? Do you think this is the first update ever in ED? Call me stupid, but I don't get it.

There is no confirmed information yet on how Elite will continue.
Only very vague statements, as so often.
I want to know what's to come.
I am certainly not alone in this.

Odyssey is a DLC that implements ground combat into the game.
That's done so far, except for bug fixes and optimizations.
I suspect that with the poor sales figures, not much will be invested.
But there could be new content for the main game.
I don't want to just guess, I want to get information about it.

No, ground combat is one part of EDO, it is not the aim nor the main point of the DLC, what EDO implemented is the legs concept of which combat zone is just on aspect. Leags are a foundation for pretty much anything you can tink of in the future. I don't say they will deliver, I say that EDO is a fondamental change, and you can't discard it like that, it is a shortcut that is simply wrong.

As Odyssey doesn't seem to have been much of a commercial success, and there won't be any additional revenue from console sales, I think what's next is likely to be on a much smaller scale than anything we've had so far.
Instead of shooting in the dark, I would advise you and others to read what Frontier actually SAYS as it is available in their Annual Report online. You might be surprised to see that their strategy is actually quite clear and that you don't need to guess... They don't give roadmap specifics, of course, but you can pretty much see where they want to go and, more importantly, that they believe Elite is in a sweet spot of the industry, meaning they don't plan to downsize it.

The annual report interests me very little. It's for the shareholders.
I am a customer and I expect information via the official channels.

Not only, they lay out their vision for their games and where they want to go. Strategy is at the studio level first, and then it is applied to games.
