Isn't the main technical challenge with ED the planetary rendering, as it includes the generation of the planets WITHIN that rendering? Some off-the-shelf engine isn't going to give you that.

Bug fixing dude, bug fixing.
1. Disembark issue when change ship
2. Cannot sit in settlement chairs, I saw NPCs can so shoot every seated guy onsite hahah.
3. Visual bug of FC bridge jump, you can see hangar shutter doors close up but after jumping out of target position these shutters magically disappear without any animation.
4. Visual bug of night vision, when on ship with NV turned on you can see yourself also with NV effect. Ship NV and suit NV now coupled together.
5. That boss seat side pannel dose not provide FC management UI. It's very likely another bug.

Anyway no rush, take your time. I'm busy throwing fireballs to "Thargoids" in Limgrave these days
:ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:
If you notice when you are in hyperspace in carrier your paintjob reverts to default then back after u get out.

As Odyssey doesn't seem to have been much of a commercial success, and there won't be any additional revenue from console sales, I think what's next is likely to be on a much smaller scale than anything we've had so far.
It's had a poor start, no denying that, but I wouldn't write it off. We will have to wait to see what's coming now that Fdev have made the unfortunate but ultimately necessary decision to move forward without the need to focus on making Odyssey work on console. The leaked roadmap showed Thargoids on foot, and I think it's a logical next step (no pun intended) for Odyssey.

My own mind tells me that if Epic were to show proof of concept of Stellar Forge working within Unreal 5, and offered Frontier full dev support, that's got to be a very compelling offer worthy of serious consideration. At some point in Elite's development actual cities on earth like worlds will have to be implemented, Unreal 5 has shown that it is fully capable of that sort of procgen detail at least in one instance, and while I'm not suggesting that I can tell which is more difficult to implement; Stellar Forge or full scale procgen city rendering (or the feasibility of both running simultaneously together), it's worth remembering that the full scale simulation of the galaxy we see in Elite Dangerous is a more advanced/complex visualization of what in essence came on a 1Mb floppy disk loaded into an Amiga 500. The genius is David Braben, along with Dr. Kay Ross and any other involved in making this technical marvel reality.

There is no confirmed information yet on how Elite will continue.
Only very vague statements, as so often.
I want to know what's to come.
I am certainly not alone in this.
You are alone on that. For at least another few hours, maybe till the end of the week. Go into a concourse, put your feet up. Take it easy. We'll be back to regular rants/requests/dooms starting Monday.
FDev should use the FC countdown timer and jump sequence for stuffs!

Instead of shooting in the dark, I would advise you and others to read what Frontier actually SAYS as it is available in their Annual Report online. You might be surprised to see that their strategy is actually quite clear and that you don't need to guess... They don't give roadmap specifics, of course, but you can pretty much see where they want to go and, more importantly, that they believe Elite is in a sweet spot of the industry, meaning they don't plan to downsize it.
Unless I am missing something, the only things said about Elite are:

"FY21 saw the announcement (in June 2020) and release (in May 2021) of
Elite Dangerous: Odyssey on PC, our most ambitious development project
to date: the addition of first-person on-foot gameplay into our 1:1 galactic
simulation of the whole Milky Way. This meant bringing the human scale
to a galaxy nearly 100,000 light years across. Completing this large and
complex expansion without the benefits of face-to-face collaboration was
challenging, and despite a successful alpha period, unfortunately the
launch was hindered by connectivity issues [ :ROFLMAO: ], and this turned the positive
reception of the alpha to one of negativity. Despite its initial challenges,
hundreds of thousands of players are enjoying the experience. I am
delighted with the underlying achievement by our team, and remain
confident that more and more players will upgrade to Odyssey over time
as we continue to refine the experience."

&

"Our existing game franchise portfolio continues to perform well.
Engagement with our Elite Dangerous player community
is gradually improving, and we remain confident that more
and more players will upgrade to Odyssey over time as we
continue to improve and refine the experience."

&

"We continue to support Elite Dangerous and our player community,
and look forward to more and more Commanders stepping up to
engage with Odyssey over time."

&

"In May 2021 we released our most ambitious expansion to date for Elite
Dangerous, Elite Dangerous: Odyssey, which generated
launch revenues on PC in that month. The overall reception
to this major content update has been disappointing, but we
are confident that as we improve and enhance the Odyssey
experience we will see more and more Commanders
engaging with the expansion."

I found nothing in the annual report that sets forth any sort of roadmap for the future other that a hope that put-off players will eventually adopt the DLC after some non-specified updates. Did I miss something? Because that does not inspire confidence that FDev have plans other than getting EDO into sufficient shape so that more commanders "engage" with the expansion.

OP asks "What's next".
Here's what I see as possible "what's next?" for Elite Dangerous ...
1. Nothing. Frontier just keep maintaining the game, fixing bugs etc, but basically do the bare minimum to keep the game going.
2. Thargoids on foot, ala Starship Troopers.
3. Increase the types of worlds we can land on, this does not mean atmospheric worlds, but could be a step in that direction.
4. Ship interiors, which might be a possibility given we had carrier interiors.
5. They sunset (shut down) Elite Dangerous and launch a "sequel" to it, learning from mistakes they made with Elite Dangerous (and what you think were mistakes, may not be what Frontier think are mistakes). This would imply they have been working on Elite's next game for the past few years .... which is unlikely. If they started it now, it would be a few years until we find out about it.

But there could be new content for the main game.
I don't want to just guess, I want to get information about it.
We understand but that's not how Frontier operates (or have they ever). They like any new content to be as a complete surprise as possible. Therefore, anything mentioned in this thread is most likely speculation.
