Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Ray strikes me as someone who is very much in earnest. A classic long-term fan, with an unrelated technical background, and lots of time and desire to fan-craft between the dots. The many, many dots, which make up the constellation of SC promises ;)

(And yes, I think he's being very daft too. Despite gargling a lot of the nuts and bolts of what they've said, he's mainly regurgitating dreams of his very own devising...)
Understanding exponential functions is a bit beyond being daft. I find it very surprising someone would recognise such a function and then draw a really outworldish conclusion from it.

Well the problem was, he described an exponential problem (while dreamcrafting about snipers in 'Luxury Party Server_Balcony_01' watching dancers in 'Pleasure Barge Server_Top Deck_02', looking at random jumping man on 'Orison Footpath Server_Supplementary_07' etc). He just didn’t recognise it as an exponential problem precisely.

He just saw it as 'a very hard thing that CIG will undoubtably do' ;)

It’s all about perspectives innit ;)

Ah, so he didn't understand it's an exponential problem.

Yeah. (I said he identified it, I never said he grokked it ;))

I love that video so much though. It's like... he's so close. He's so close to machinima-ing through the issues in his mind, using the PU as his mental playground... He's so close to going: 'But if Person X looks at Person Y looking at Person Z, as Person Cabron flys into view and drops a bomb on them all... Then...'

'CIG will have to come up with something really amazing to make that work. Wow.'

'CIG are so amazing'

Is how his mind resolves the conundrum 😁

IF ConciergeLVL<1 AND PPop>0 AND CurrentArea>0 THEN GOSUB ShipSale

Despite his technical knowledge and experience, it appears he hasn't yet learned of Occam's razor

Other things they're doing badly? CIG is really good at culling, even better than FDev.
I'd say CIg are bad at releasing games and sticking to promises, but since they haven't released any games, how can I say they're bad at it? But, some things we may never know.

Ah layers, you know we sometimes get put into "layers" in LOTRO, it says when the current area is seperated into multiple layers and has a little icon that looks like a stack of papers in the corner so you know while you may be in the same area as a friend you won't see them unless you both join a fellowship outside the area before entering so you get assigned to the same layer. Date of LOTRO release? 2007, yes 2007, and CIG are still talking about "layers".
Oh yeah, that was similar to SW:TOR when I played it, nearly 20 years ago.

Culling alone? Probably not too much, except actually culling ship interiors which they currently dont. But they do cull everything else.

They cull so much, that when I walk into one area from another, the area is culled and everything goes black and Im stuck in some virtual point.

They've certainly culled the gameplay pretty well :D

They've culled any thoughts of a release date, and culled the roadmap.

I'm not sure if CIg are good at culling, but they cull a lot.

It's a new standard of the game industry. Like FDEV culling console version or culling VR on foot. Or CDPR culling trains or wall climbing in mantis 😆
LOL - For something to be culled it has to exist first!

EDO never existed on consoles, so cannot be culled. VR never existed for legs in EDO, so it wasn't culled.

I think you are onto something though. I suspect you have invented a new definition for culling, maybe we should call, it virtual culling. Virtual culling took place when the various announcements were made, you could say it was virtually culled from those players minds who expected EDO on consoles and VR legs in EDO. In SC land I guess there will be the concept of whale culling triggered by virtual culling of dreams.txt.

That is a masterfully executed maneuvre. Genuine Roberts invented pre-emptive and cooperative culling tech to reduce while simultaneously advancing the state of having zero released games, to having zero released games - by removing the completely needless step of releasing any/either/X announced games in between.

It's beautiful in it's simplicity.

They existed in the internal betas of FDEV. You would have seen them if those builds were public. But its indeed better to optimize the culling before release to public 😅

No need to see the EDO beta, The VR stuff for EDO is still in the release, you can activate it if you want

Lol, what are you on about now?

You think this is proof that EDO had full working VR gameplay, but it was culled?

Or that having the vanity camera VR since alpha, and still having it, is proof that... something was culled? Somehow?

To stay on topic:

If you want to see some made up beta stuff, check out SQ42's beta release in 2020 ;)
