Discovery Scanner [Weekly Update] - 29/03/2022

  • you always have to use personally a ship with large cargo space tor transfer tritium from storage to the depot, makes in impossible to remotely jump your carrier over the range of 1000t tritium in depot
  • for longer distances i currently have to use the spansh fc route plotter because fiddling with the map is difficult on long range. an ingame subroutine like the spansh plotter from the ready room would introduce some sense of astrometics and serious gameplay
  • right, ship change must be done from the cockpit of the last used ship. totally unnecessary and complicated. this also brings some usefull gameplay from carrier inside
Remote management does need work. If I'm not on my carrier, I need someone on the carrier to buy MY Tritium and donate it back. What am I paying the Depot Manager for?

Also while remote, in the Carrier's Galaxy Map, please use distances from the carrier's location and not my location. I can't tell if the jump system is 500 LY away from the carrier if all it tells me is that the system is 20,000 LY from my location

One fix that I doubt would be too difficult to make is a buff to the Manticore Oppressor. Guns in Odyssey are reasonably well balanced against one another, with the exception of the Oppressor. A 15%-30% increase in damage plus a similar increase in shot speed would help put it on the same level as the other guns.

Greetings Commanders!

Apologies for bringing you your Discovery Scanner a day later than usual this week, but here we are! Let's talk about all things Elite Dangerous.

Fleet Carrier Interiors & Update 11 Feedback

First up this week, I want to talk about Fleet Carriers, specifically, your feedback to the launch of interiors, and Update 11 as a whole. We're very happy to see that the vast majority of Commanders are enjoying the update, and of course the jump sequence that I like to bring up every week because it's just THAT good. Your feedback, however, has been incredibly valuable as we look to improve the experience further moving forward. Of all the feedback, I believe the following are the most prevalent:

  • Bartender Service storage cap (already tweaked)
  • Bartender Service sell pricing cap
  • You would like to use menus whilst sitting
  • The panel next to the Commander's chair in the bridge should be interactive
The above has all been fed back to the dev team who will be taking these points into consideration. If there's a point here that you believe is worth raising that I've missed, please do leave feedback below! I'm interested in hearing your thoughts in detail on the Bartender Service sell pricing cap.

Class 3 Fragment Cannons

The team are currently investigating an issue where some Commanders are unable to deploy Class 3 Fragment Cannons. At the moment this seems to be a Horizons-only issue, but we're continuing to look into it. You can follow the Issue Tracker report for it here.

Community Event Calendar

Last week, we finally launched the Community Event Calendar! It's fantastic to see events start to populate the calendar as we get things moving. I'll be highlighting an event below, but I also wanted to comment on some of the feedback we're hearing and what we're looking at for a potential next phase.

  • Event length limit is too short - we are looking to raise this in the short term to two weeks, and long-term, allow a way to display longer events for those that want to see them, without cluttering the calendar for others.
  • Shareable links - At the moment, you can't share a direct link to an event once you open the pop-up. This is also on the list for the team to look into moving forward.

Last Chance For Type-9 Spring Paint Job Twitch Drops

Make sure you tune in to Frameshift Live this week on Thursday at 4PM BST (3PM UTC) for your last chance in the current run to earn the Spring paintjobs for the Type-9 via Twitch Drops! We've seen a huge amount of claims so far, but we don't want you to miss out on those lovely paintjobs for your ever-reliable hauler.

Community Event Calendar Spotlight: The Endurance Expedition

This week we're spotlighting the upcoming Endurance Expedition! The exploration event gets started on the 6th April in LHS 6309 10 am UTC, when the carriers will jump from LHS 6309 to Serenity Pru Euq WO-D b53–8. The expedition is open to all Commanders, but especially those looking to visit Colonia, Sagittarius A* and Beagle Point. The leading Commanders aren't requesting any Tritium but any donations would be appreciated! Got multiple ships? No problem! They can be stored on one of the participating Fleet Carriers!

Loving the update but to enhance the carrier experience further in addition to the points you have already raised.
1. New services seem very expensive for franchises.
2. Would be nice to be able to change own ships even if the shipyard is not installed, at present you have to get in to your current ship and then change it.
3. Own crew both on approach and internally treat you no different to any other Cmdr. Can I withdraw salary until they learn manners.

I'm sure there was something else but I will add it when this ageing Cmdr remembers

I remembered lol, can our flight decks be seen active from inside the carrier please

Not sure if its been mentioned but a visitor log. Real person or NPC, Cmdr Name, Ship name, ship type, Pad, activity, date/time and a message board where they can leave messages. I think those messages may get spicey which I don't mind personally but may not be appropriate for some players. Perhaps pre-canned options, just no sketch pad or there'll be many drawings of.......you know........gentleman parts.

Tend to agree quite honestly. I've got oxygenic bacteria (smoothies) and an RDX / epheneprine (explosive adrenaline) cocktail for sale behind the bar and, if there was a more obvious material to sell to support that roleplay, I wouldn't mind that. But I can't see drinking a drink as a dev task any more important to implement than reading a book, ear wax eating or click-to-win arm wrestling really.

Would like to see SRV tyre tracks return soon.
A fair point but the concept was not to necessarily manifest drinks (my error - edited) but add to the menu system and just give it an added sense of realism.

I understand the current design is a quickstep to necessitate fast player interaction, I just feel it all feels too clinical and by adding of sense of realism it will feel less like a spreadsheet.

If they remove the price restrictions on the bartender, then let him sell everything!
I want to sell Targoid's heart for 1 billion.

I second (or third or whatever) the requests that remote carrier navigation screen should show target systems distance from the carriers current location, NOT from wherever my current ship is - that is useless at best and very unhelpful.

Just as a matter of interest, have the newsletters been stopped, because i haven't had one for some time?

Got mine #336 on March 18th
Just be advised they may be employing pixel trackers, so if you dont read them or if you have blocked images in your email client... well... there is a possibility that you get unsubscribed after a while.

It may as well that they know you dont play the game anymore 😂
j/k

Omfg. Is it really like that now?

Just some non constructive feedback/complaint from the VR side of things. Its really REALLY irritating that when the FC jump starts, like it starts to go into the wormhole. it switches from flatscreen to VR view, then once the jump is over it switched BACK to flatscreen. As a vr user its really REALLY upsetting to know that the dev team could just...copy and paste the code from ships and make proper vr work.

Request/somewhat constructive feedback for FC. 1) Be real nice to have the Apex shuttle take us to our carrier tbh. 2) In the shipyard section, can you guys add an outfitting option? Like I personally want on foot and ship gameplay to be married instead of seperate, so i decided to start to go into my concourse whenever i change ships, refusing to touch the shipyard button in my ship unless needed. Would be real awesome if the shipyard section had an outfitting option. 3) Just another selfish request, i would like the ability to remotely dump the cargo in my ship so when i am swapping ships in the concourse of my carrier...i dont have to run all the way back, dump the cargo, then run back to the shipyard and change the ship >.> yes i know all of these is a "me problem" but it would be nice if the options existed.

Yea, but you are sitting. LIke it happens while you are in a ship or in a SRV.
I assume vr is not that easy for a full on-foot experience. No idea - just saying.

most vr users are touch typists, its not out of the realm of possiblity that we can just have the head on the body, turn with the camera, and then the body turn with the mouse like mouse look camera just the head itself have the hud attached to our head, and then once our body turning reaches a certain point like say a 90 degree angle or 75 degree angle, the head moves with the body. It can be rudementary, even bad, but like SOMETHING

I second having the blank doors opened even if they just lead to empty storage areas, but having facilties to fit that don't require maintenance, say like a hydroponic garden that you can buy and install would be nice, I am sure we can come up with enough non-credit earning facilities for players to install, I mean even if they cost ARX, ie they are regarded as a decoration, that would be fine.
It would certainly make the space more interesting, although I don't know if it's the highest priority for the art folks to pursue just now. However, my concern there is that, while not the prettiest thing, the closed doors do make an unambiguous signal that the service is unavailable. I'd compare this case to the one at surface ports, where the Inter Astra shop is open but left unstaffed at ports that don't have shipyard services. At least once a week we get questions here thinking that the missing NPC is a bug or saying they waited around a long time for the NPC to come back from break or something. So in that case it would probably be a better user experience if the shop area was closed off or at least got a prominent sign that the service isn't present.

If bartender pricing caps are increased, it should not turn the bartender into an offline credits_printing_machine for materials that can be obtained by relog festivals

(yep, this is how a popularity contest is won 😂 )
Yeah, there's a balance to be struck. The data items in particular - that are most highly in demand due to low drop rates and inability to trade them at station bartenders - have very low price caps. From the exchange thread that's running, few carrier owners bother to stock their bartender because the income is absolute peanuts for the effort involved, but the ones who do are seeing stock sell out instantaneously due to the high demand. I understand that FDev don't particularly want to allow people to completely shortcut the engineering gameplay, but they've added the feature, so presumably they do want people to use it.
