How do you feel about Elite today?

Elite 1984 ZX Spectrum: 1
Frontier Developments 1984: 2
Elite Dangerous - Horizons: 4
Elite Dangerous - Odyssey: 9
Frontier Developments 2020: 10

The OP's base 10 system of expressing emotion about ED restricts my freedom in such a way that leaves me confused and ambivalent :\
You can also use the open Memes scale or the Fonzy scale of cool if you want to.

For example, right now I'm waiting for the next CG. But, if it's yet another mining one, I'll be  in the emoji scale. Which translate in :

with the meme scale.
On the Fonzy scale we are at roughly 5 :

I added a picture to help.

I hope this help, while we wait for a unified and more robust scaling.

Not looking back or into the future. How do you feel about Elite today?
Today? Elite Dangerous: Horizons -> THREE.

I have no explanation for this. I can only surmise that I'm not actually Old Duck, but rather a clone with OD's memories but alien DNA. I do retain all of OD's complaints about long outstanding bugs and half-finished content, but unlike OD, I'm actually getting enjoyment from the game after a year hiatus. It is very disconcerting.

Played for over 5000 hours. But unfortunately, since they decided to go for the 'run-and-gun' crowd I figure it's time to move on. Call it an '8'.

It depends which specific aspects and updates of the game we're talking about. Overall, I'd probably give it 75 percent good. Some aspects I like quite a lot, others are alright, some are tolerable as a means to an end, and others I dislike and/or don't bother with much if at all.

It's not quite the game I was hoping for nor expecting when I got E: D, and then ED: H with the 2015 LEP (and based on early promotional material and Frontier interviews, I think that's probably the case for many of them as well), but I've kept playing it for the galactic sim and having fun mucking around in sci-fi spaceships, and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future when it strikes my fancy or chill for a bit doing some jump-honking and exploration.

At present I'm between 3 and 4. As I keep on saying they need to at more space stuff into the on-foot missions to make the game feel more integrated for me to improve.

5: from what was promised to where we are now it took DBOBE less time to write Elite 2 (quotes as five years secret development coding it alone in magazines of the time) single handed than the entire fdev group has taken to write ED and its still not finished 🤔

That's not really comparable though.

Seeing as the games are relatively conparable and the only difference is the multiplayer tech, gameplay wise Elite2 or 3 is very similar to Elite 4. For me the comparison is the same as Solo ED :)

Yeah... huh, besides also the fact Elite 2 was 1Mb top, and Elite Dangerous is 68.21Gb. And the number of lines of code is so vastly superior it's not even funny.
It's like saying a ferrari is not so different from a horse cart besides the color, because both have wheels and they can carry people on a road.

Listen, I to think ED could be better, and I to know that Braben said/promised MANY thinks and a lot of them are not ingame, and probably never will. But comparing Elite 2 and ED is just wrong.

Art assets are a large part of what eats up dev time (and cost) these days, compare the detail of Frontier: Elite 2 to Odyssey, which was almost entirely overhauled to factor in the up closer onfoot experience. It's more than we give it credit for.
