What did you do in Planet Zoo today?

I've mostly just made empty space for them (and cleared out some bad terraforming in the hopes that I can improve it with terraces), but it's also good reason to redo habitats. Of course, I'm in sandbox, and I don't know if you are, but I've just been fixing random things I feel could be renovated -- odd roofs, unrealistic exhibits, drab buildings.
I'm mostly a franchise player but just clearing out space might be key right now. Oh the terraces, yes I can't wait for those too - I was just working on some habitat ponds this weekend and was wishing we had that already. It may end up being my favorite part of the update.

I could just go through some of my newer zoos and finish some of the outside shells of buildings. That could hold me for a week :)

I'm not really sure this is a "what did you do in Planet Zoo today" comment, but it fits best here. We're about a week away from the new DLC and I've kind of hit a slump. I don't want to add more things until the new animals! I don't know their habitat size requirements; yes I've built one otter habitat which is huge so should be fine, and I have some capybara ones that I'm hoping are fine, but I'm kind of in an anticipation mode. I think, with this being not centric to one region of the world, which most of my zoos are built around, it's harder to pre-plan for the new animals.

So what's everyone doing to prep for the new animals, if anything?
I've had a motivation boost since the DLC announcement to finish some of the areas I had still planned. The otters came in very handy: I finally decided to give the remaining spot in my tropical dome to the Giant Otters, so I can replace their original habitat that was too small anyway with the Asian Small-Clawed Otter.
Other than that, I'm actually not going to build that many habitats for the new animals: I'll probably not include the platypus and the caiman (already have a caiman in my South America House), the Nile Lechwe will go into the savannah habitat I still have planned, the buffalo will probably go in my big Asian ungulate habitat along with peafowls and Malayan Tapirs (and possibly the cranes, even though they don't really fit) to replace the Indian Rhinos that were placeholders in there anyway, and the capybara will be pretty much the only one I'll build an entirely new habitat for. That said, I also wanted to build new habitats for japanese macaques and flamingos that I have postponed until the update drops because I really want to design their habitats using the new terracing tool.

Absolutely stunning habitat in general, but I especially like the fence in the last pic @Bearcat9948 . Custom fences are the best.

I started the Crane habitat in Murmeldorf in my creative hour before work this morning. My best friend is super excited to see me back in this project and we already planned to do a first person mode walk around together when everything is finished someday. :D

I thought my zoo was finished, but after better thinking during a flight, I realised that I could add most of the new wetlands animals to my park, so I've been moving some animals around in preparation for the new animals. I haven't built any new habitats, just moving animals and doing some changes to the plants and water volumes. But I don't know where to put out my peafowls now. Could I just put them together with the elephants or the rhino in the Indian section? Or maybe with the water buffalo? Or the flamingo? I have no room for building a new habitat for them.

Thank you, @Lea_G ! I love the australian vibes of your zoo, by the way.

Thank you! Some of the Australian pieces are among my favourites in the game, and they go so well with the African theme. With snow and cold weather outside, I really needed to escape to a warm place!

I'm unable to prepare habitats for the new animals in advance, so I actually just do other stuff around the zoos. But I know the feeling of a slump after the announcement, you just want to play with the new ones immediately!

I didn't feel like playing today, I might have overwhelmed myself with building yesterday. So instead I gave the vector map another try and made one for my Niceland City Zoo (which isn't really a city zoo, but well). The outcome is a lot better than last time, and I think I will use it in the actual game on the screens. I love how the game boosts my creativity even besides playing. I'm not super talented with vector graphics, but I'm getting better and I might adapt the map when the zoo is further expanded.

Peafowl with Water Buffalo sounds good. Maybe you could also put the Flamingos in there too. Or a Aviary with Cranes, Peafowl and Flamingos

which isn't really a city zoo, but well
Reminds me of my City Zoo😂🤣

Totally forgot to answer! I think the peafowls can go with almost everything except predators as long as the habitat requirements overlap. I already paired them with (Indian) rhinos and hippos and it made those large habitats a lot more interesting :) So I think they would also work quite well with the buffalo or elephants.

Personally, I love free-ranging peafowls. If the zoo is sandbox mode, I'd recommend turning off escapes, then building a large null habitat over part of the park.

You can even keep them together with Gharials. I do also sometimes enjoy keeping Flamingos and Gharials together👍🦩🐊

No screens yet but I've finished the proboscis monkey half of my Borneo House. Once I've completed the orangutan half I'll share some pics. Then I'll have to start themeing it, but I already have an idea for a new zoo I want to build. 😅
Noooo, stop it! 😅 I begin to think you are the worst of us all with restarting. (say the woman who considered dumping Unity and Wingburg entirely after Murmeldorf is finished and she needs a new "fits for all" zoo)

Well, this time I think I'll keep my current zoo as well, and do bits of both. I recently went to Orana Park for my birthday and I got the urge to throw together a basic low-budget park again, but I'm still enjoying building my current zoo. I think I'll keep going with it at least until the Wetlands Pack comes out and see how I feel.

So the first enclosure is finished...well, almost finished I would say.
It actually turned out to be a little bigger than expected.
Then the pigs at least have enough space for a lot of babies. 😂

I still have to fix a few things, but all in all I think it's quite successful (please ignore the background) I think the enclosure needs more scrub 🤔
I'm also doing a new enclosure signage, I sat there almost the whole day on Monday (I don't like the biome thing down at the edge 100% yet, but we'll see)
All our Germans know that the Babirusa are also called "Babirusa" in the game, but the term "Hirscheber" for the animals is much more common in Germany. Translated, this means something like "deerboar" or "stagboar". In Germany, animals are often named after what they look like. We are not a creative folk 😂

Next up are the proboscis monkeys and the pangolins and then I can roll the dice again *happy

Screw it, decided I want to share my proboscis monkey habitat.

Only two screens. I won't show the indoor area yet because I haven't got a roof on or anything.

The bamboo in the raised garden at the back of the habitat is going to be kind of emblematic of the Asia section. It will also be present behind the neighbouring orangutan habitat, which is slow-going. I'm planning on building a raised viewing area for the orangutans that doubles as a rain shelter, so when one of them is chilling in there it will be right next to the guests.

Both indoor sections have an on-display area and an off-display area so the animals still get privacy. I really wish there was a way in-game though to make it so the animals can enter/exit the indoor sections through raised holes in the wall, but because it blocks keeper access it's pretty much impossible.

Started a new project today taking various ideas from different zoos and notes I’ve made over the years.

I have set myself the challenge of starting building when the new pack comes out (want to wait and see what the flatten to terrace tool can do) and having a finished zoo (with potential for development and expansion of course) by the time the presumed summer DLC is released.

I literally never finish anything so this will be something of a challenge but I hope it works out ok.
I've never finished a zoo either!

It looks awesome! Love the climbing structure and the anti-climbing fencing. <3

I try to be done with my work very early today to play. Mental health is a mess, I need some good game time. I have to admit though, it's nagging at me, that the Capybara won't fit in both active projects :D

The fate of Unity and Wingburg has yet to be decided, honestly. Why I love some of the building work I did in Unity reloaded, I just don't feel the zoo as much as I felt the previous Unity (that I scrapped because I progressed too much in my building and basically would have had to redo everything.)
Wingburg... meh. I can say, the idea to just wing it and add any animal whenever I feel like it also worn out and does not bring me anywhere. Even though I really love some habitats in that zoo. (Looking at you, Cassowary).

This game sometimes is a challenge for overthinkers like me ;)

Thank you! I only wish we had more enrichment items for climbers. Things that we could actually attach to the climbing structures. I also wanted to expand the anti-climbing fence along the concrete barrier at the back just for realism's sake but it's just so finnicky.

Putting any animals anywhere is one reason I want to do a new zoo. The zoo I mentioned earlier, Orana Park, is pretty much like that. They have basically a ring-road of paddocks with various hoofed animals in them (zebras, bison, water buffalo, rhinos, giraffes, waterbuck, nyala, addax, and yak) and other things placed randomly in the middle (islands for lemurs and spider monkeys, the Great Ape Centre for the gorillas and siamangs, un-themed tiger and lion habitats, and so on). The most complex habitats are the ape habitats and the meerkats/porcupines at the entrance, and the otters (which have a small underwater viewing window).

The only overtly-themed areas are the African wild dogs (a small replica African village which has been there for years and is in desperate need of refurbishment) and the NZ native section in the middle.

Tell me about it. Overthinking is exactly where this game makes me fail. Overthinking and overplanning.
