Question on AFK play

Hey, I'm asking if the stacking of pirate massacre missions, flying to a low rez site, and just letting your turrets and npc pilot kill pirates while you do other stuff is illegal. Mods on the Elite Dangerous FB group seem to have the opinion that its against the code of conduct. Just trying to get some clarity from Fdev themselves.

It's not something I'd do myself and it does raise the question of whether you're actually wanting to play the game if your intention is to walk off and do something else.

However, if you've outfitted and engineered your ship so it can't get blown up doing it and since no other condition occurs on being sat in the same place for hours to stop you, that's not the players' fault. That there is the main point in any discussion/argument about this: The game does allows you to do it. Whether you like it or (like me) you don't.

Yeah, it’s not my thing either but I can understand why people would use it to grind out the Elite rank. - combat at that stage is very samey.

I don’t think it should happen, but FDev have created the situation where it’s possible and have done nothing to fix it so far. 🤷‍♂️

Not my cup of tea, but it's not against the rules.

I'm sure someone made a thread ages ago though about leaving it overnight, and coming back to the rebuy screen, and wanted to complain - that was a funny thread, so don't do that unless you want a ribbing!

Don't you have to re-enter the instance every ~10 mins to get new enemies to spawn??
(Also - watch out for Spec-Ops!)

Low res doesn't spawn spec ops, or anything. Low res is the poi in rings, not a conflict zone. Low intensity cz wouldn't spawn spec ops anyways (or count for pirate massacres, not the right ship type)

But yeah, as long as op isn't doing it with macros/ other third party automation software, fill those boots i guess. Much better ways to get credits from massacre stacking though.

Also, if you worded it like the way you wordedv this post title on FB,i can understand why people assumed what you're doing might be a breach of game rules... "AFK play" suggests using macros or other automation software.

Some might also argue it's taking advantage of a "known exploit", but those opinions don't matter unless FD say its against the rules[1]

[1] not the only consideration, just in this instance.

Is it an exploit or a legitimate use of missions and turrets 🤷‍♂️

If its an exploit then its on Frontier to block it imho otherwise its down to the player to decide

You can’t set AX turrets to auto (Fire at Will) - you can but they don’t fire - but you can with normal turrets. If it was an exploit it would, presumably, be a quick fix for FDev and they’ve not acted on it, so…

For rank grinding, the fastest is anarchy + outbreak. Find a "checkpoint" PoI, start killing the eagles. They are all relatively high rank, and keep on spawning.

AFK T10 is more for money while you don't play.

You mean the Nav Beacon? It's a step up from a Low RES in terms of pirate level, and also has less frequent pirates

Yeah, I forgot what they were called. 🙃

You’re afk! Not as efficient, but also gives free combat XP.

They’re still squishy af with an engineered ship - loads of them are eagles - and the pirates are frequent enough in anarchy systems, unless something has dramatically changed in the last 6-7 months?

I used to sit at a Nav Beacon while working, alt-tabbing back when the COVAS announced I was under attack. They are more likely to run away, so having a SLF out to chase them down is a good idea.

It's not against the rules and the mods on that FB group don't get to decide game rules. It's a thing I've considered because I enjoy setting up special purpose ship builds, but I don't think it's a great way to earn credits. For the time needed to tune the ship build, stack the missions up from multiple stations, go to the site, let it run and then go back to hand in, you could make loads of credits in other ways, while playing the game at the same time.

But basically, blaze your own trail.
