Issue Tracker: Planetary Tiling

Most people don't bother with the issue tracker.
Like the "ideas" forum, it's there to shut you up by making you feel like you're doing something.

Yup, it is kinda depressing you have to spell it out. I wonder if this is just them being angry about ED not being their dream game, or whether they play all games like this.

"Aha, I have seen this rock in Skyrim before! This is clearly just a computer game!"
"Hang on, this vending machine in CP is identically scratched as that other vending machine! This is clearly just a computer game!"
"Hang on, this football player uses the exact same animation when celebrating as that other dude. This is clearly just a computer game!"

ED is a computer game you bought for a few tenners. It has absolutely stunning planets with infinite variety on the surface. But yes, Billy, you can sometimes see through the cracks and notice the little man behind the curtain.
Except that procedural generation is not the core of most of the others games :)

He is right though. Planets for 99.9% of people already do their job (fantastically) well. Many gameplay elements not so much. To 'single issue voters' their thing is always the most important, but to the general consumer a more balanced approach is much better.
So the next step is the inclusion of the EDO tech in EDH ?

I dont work for FD so I dont know. But I think they said at some point they would do that, no? No idea if that is still the plan, and if so, when that will happen. But it makes sense to unify it as much as possible.

Currently the 4th highest acknowledged issue is 'telemetry for motion simulators'. How many people do you think have a $5000 seat to go with their VR setup? The issue tracker means pretty much nothing. Its just something to keep a small number of people quiet here.
The issue tracker is more representative of what people want over this arbitrary "most people want X" or "99.9% of people want Y" that you're throwing around without any consideration of sources, real info or statistics.

Erm...........really?
World design is like one of the core pillars in any open-world game development. Bad world design creates a bad foundation for gameplay to be built upon, as many explorers will attest to considering the numerous threads and conversation surrounding the issue.

Simply put, Dr Ross has left and you don't know how to sort it.
Personally I don't care.
Now give me some new ships, this is a space, right!

Greetings Commanders,

We’d like to take this opportunity to address the Tiling Planetary Features issue from the Issue Tracker.

After spending some time to observe the effects of the issue while weighing-up the costs to resolve it, we have decided to focus those resources elsewhere. Reducing or preventing the tiling effect would require a deep-overhaul of fundamental systems, which in turn would disrupt other aspects of the game. This would inevitably take time away from developing and improving other elements such as performance, bug fixes, and new content. We cannot justify this level of change and a re-generation of the galaxy in Elite. This is unlikely to change in the future so the issue will be closed, freeing up votes on the tracker for other issues.

We’ll continue to strive for the best possible experience for the highest number of players which our current focus allows us to do. We hope you’ll appreciate the reasoning behind this decision.

How to tell the customers that you are deprioritising E: D & gutting the development team onto other projects like theme parks and F1 management games, without actually saying those words out loud.

It doesn't take a huge amount of reading between the lines. Your mask is slipping a bit. It would have been the easiest thing in the world for you to simply have that issue in your tracker, and make slow (or no) progress while the handful of developers left figured the issue out. But, no.

Very poor show Frontier, but sadly unsurprising given the last few years.

The issue tracker is a tool developed by extraterrestrials to drive us insane.
If you only knew...

I think you meant "projects like theme parks and F1 management games and update 12"

Very rarely you come across a company that can't seem to put a foot wrong, but at the moment Frontier can't seem to put a foot right.

It's like watching a rabbit in the headlights, surely the poor beast is going to do something to save itself?

update 12
Don't make me laugh. It's not gonna fix the AA, the lighting, FSS orbit lines in VR or performance (maybe a couple more frames a second).
Planet gen is now considered 'done' and FC interiors was the last big thing to be added for 2022 (Thargoid shoot outs - I wouldn't put money on it being a thing this year - but maybe <battered wife syndrome>).
Maybe it'll fix some of the simpler bugs but that's pretty much your lot!

Last staement from Braben :
As you probably know, we split Horizons and Odyssey into two sets of servers – with the plan to keep it that way until we ship Odyssey on console.
Console are canceled, it should be no more reasons not to merge Horizon with Odyssey.

I've been playing Elite on and off since the kickstarter. Unfortunately for my playing time, life interrups sometimes, so of late I have just begun to get close to my end goal of buying a carrier and exploring the galaxy. However, with this decision of refusing to fix a mess of your own making, I will no longer be playing your game as you have spoiled the whole premise for me. It's not just this decision, but a series of decisions that you have made regarding the devleopment of the game which I am mostly disappointed with; halting VR development being another crap decision and the other god awful bugs that are regularly introduced with each update.
Well done, you have a done a Sony SWG.
Thanks for the years of enjoyment but I I'll be moving to something else now, perhaps to a developer that will be more in touch with their player base.
