To Solo Play Players: If You Could Disable PVP, Would You Play in Open Play Mode Instead?

Block. There would be nowhere near as many doing that as there are gankers in Open now; they'd just carry on doing their stuff.
Yeah, the vast majority of gankers would still stay in the hypothetical Open PvP because most gankers use their guns to kill you. While some would resort to try ramming in the hypothetical Open PvE, they would soon realise that ramming doesn't damage players and will switch back to the PvP mode. Messing around by trying to push people off landing pads, or trying to block them, is not going to ruin anyone's day let's be honest. I really don't see gankers gaining any form of enjoyment from that anyway, as they'll more often than not just get blown up by the station without having achieved anything remotely resembling a 'gank.'

I think ghosting would be the preferred solution, otherwise you'll get a new game of bouncing other players into things (similar to the suicidewinder).
Ya, there'd be some edgy cases but it's not really wizardry. A way to deal with players trying to hide inside players with those rules maybe. Then again - why bother.

But why go to all this trouble? I get that a portion of the player base doesn't want PvP, that's fine.
What I don't get is the attraction of just seeing other player's ship but nothing more.
I guess the head of design at FD is just as clueless when it comes down to MP concepts. And it's not like that is unique - in MP designs devs keep repeating the same mistakes time and time again. "This time it will be different" - but it never is.

Yes, I'm not quite sure why we keep having these discussions (except for the joy of arguing). :D Still my impression is that there is a want/wish/need for an open PvE mode.

But for instance, a group of commanders landing together in a crater to admire each other's ships, meeting at a guardian site and end up helping each other, doing a mass jump together, even seeing some system blazing with activity at a cargo/mining CG without risking to be shot. Personally I think FDev should add more mechanics to encourage cooperative gameplay (and PvP too), but IMO it is what it is, and let's hope for the best for the future.

It's probably not at all easy to do it 'at the flick of a switch' i.e. only when selecting PvE mode and not PvP mode. It's probably easier to do it always one way or the other, but even then it may well not be feasible technically (not to mention that fdev doesn't consider it to be in the spirit of the game - see Bruce's post near the beginning of the thread).

I'm pretty sure it's more complicated to develop a damage system that tracks and times damage caused by players accurately and real time than a model where player damage is just ingnored.

Some people seem to miss the imagination what is possible in open with coop gameplay.

1. Most of my squad members and friends I met first time in open and so establish a relationship.

2. Last time we were hired by a PMF to do some BGS work at some point we asked them over discord to provide a 2 pilot - wing for our haulers as escort. They send them. Only possible in open... Or you have to take a lot of time to log out, get in touch with this players to create a PG,...

Us humans are perfectly ok with driving on public roads where there are thousands of deaths each year, but totally unwilling to bear the unlikely event of having our beloved digital ship blown up with full instantaneous rebuy.
To me it's just plain weird :)
Would you drive in public road if certain percentage of drivers were actively trying to crash you, and consequneces would be for them just slap on wrist....

If I just lost some credits that I could easily earn back on a different highway, could learn how to escape, fight back and evade that other (tiny) percentage of drivers then sure, that sounds like fun.

Yeah, and as long as the C&P is so weak, people will choose to avoid Open. Which is a shame as I’d love to see just how many Pythons are at Sirius Atmospherics. There’s always loads of chat, but everyone is in solo.
As much because of the single medium pad at Robigo mines as anything I would bet.
