Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Yes sure Ant, ant if I chucked a ball of dough at you, some tomato paste and a bag of grated mozzarella no doubt you'd call it a pizza.....
so funny to see some here so obsessed with their hatred of SC that they don't even realize that it has become a real game.
It's no wonder they don't understand why SC funding is only increasing...

Combat logging is proving to be a problem in SC

Love those sorts of threads. Reminds me of some of the threads we have had here.

Also get a chuckle because of all the knuckleheads who said "but if ED was client/server we then combat logging wouldn't be a problem"

Wait till we we getting working npcs, npc crews, blades, Reputation and more npc. 90% npc and 10% player. That is the ratio who.was told to us. Meaning 90% pve and 10% pvp. But i say pva because u did not know, where is siting in the pilot chair or what the crew is, player or npc. But it is a chance of 90% thats an npc is.

Oh sweet summer child.

Meh, it's still alpha, if none of the security and reputation systems are in place to deal with gankers or other unlawfuls, logging off is fair game. Eventually they will have a timer or extend ship persistence long enough for the gankers/bounty hunters to finish blowing the ship up, but they will also have system security, and other means to discourage ganking and unlawful behavior. Fix both at the same time, or neither, until they can fix both.
The complaints about not being able to easy mode gank players if they log off fast enough, is more funny than problematic considering the current state of the alpha/game.

I suspect that game will always have that issue even when persistence come around if things continue as they have. If combat ships decide to blow up a non combat ship, death is pretty much a done deal unless the ganker is incompetent or the non combat ship is faster by enough to get out of weapons range before being disabled. No reason not to just log off and come back later to your hospital bed unless you enjoy victim r/p gameplay.

Spurious argument.

There is no council of car makers that says when a car is finished. It's finished when it's in the showroom and you can buy it. Until then it's a prototype.
There is no council of film makers that says when a film is finished. It's finished when it's in the theaters and you can buy a ticket to see it. Until then it's in production.
The standard for a game is when it has gone gold and is being manufactured and can be purchased. That is when game sites review it and criticize it and accept that it is a released product. Until then it is vaporware.
Sounds just like my grandfather defining fishing to me...

My methodical (and highly successful) catching of fish by pulling salmon out of a lade at the top of a waterfall with a baling hook wasn't fishing... Exactly the same as me dangling a hand line over a bridge wasn't fishing... or running a line full of hooks from one bank to t'other wasn't fishing... or tickling trout from under rocks near the bank wasn't fishing. All of those methods of catching fish were poaching...despite all of those methods of fishing being generationally passed down to me from my grandfather after his continuous efforts to educate me in the gentlemanly art of fly fishing ("You're doing it wrong, boy!") failed miserably. ;)

When you are able to run your prototype on a public road, or making crashing test on it, it's already a car. A car is a car long before the commercial phase.

That's a good point...

So how long do you suppose it'll be before Star Citizen's engine is ready to actually be able move the weight of all the promises its made over the years to raise funding, as opposed to lumbering along like a poorly maintained Cugnot?

This kind of tweet is why I think we really need to stop going after former 'community darlings' just because they've dared to 'cross the line' over to dabble in Star Citizen.

For the record, still playing, having fun mining with a few old ArmA mates and a few tins from time to time, as well as playing Space EuroTruck with the box missions.
Who was suggesting Drew was being paid by CIG though? The large SC streamers aren't being paid to stream, never mind Drew.

That's simply not possible I'm afraid.

Seeing as it is completely trivial to limit bandwidth per port on any decent switch made in the last few decades, or utilize tools provided in every major OS these days, or if you are feeling particularly lulzworthy there are literally thousands of different ways to achieve the same effect.

Nobody enjoys playing with someone at 64k. And those kind of linerates break things in the modern era.

So SC is like the autonomous cars that kill people?
Also, this is a house:

I know I have seen at least once on this forum someone suggest that Drew had a paid relationship wtih SC. Maybe they were being sarcastic, and if they were, I didn't pick up on it when I read it.

I think it's easy to kind of get a grudge going when somebody known for "doing the Elite thing" comes out and says "I'm not going to be doing the Elite thing now".

But the thing is, Drew has his own thing now in Shadeward. Elite is Braben's thing and it's a good thing but now that Drew has his own thing... it makes good sense almost if he focuses less on Elite. Or maybe he's taken a shine to maybe doing an SC book? Maybe he just wants to play a different space game and there aren't really that many to pick from? It doesn't matter. Any disdain for SC should be directed at CIG and SC, not Drew.

I wouldn't call it a car until it can convey a person from point A to point B safely following the road rules. Until then I'd call it a vehicle that aspires to be a car. I certainly wouldn't call it the Best Damn Car Experience Ever or say that there is more car in the glove box than other fully released production cars.

This is Car Citizen.

Looks fun though. Fun is everything.

It's more like the park ranger coming along and saying you gotta throw that back, it's not legal. Or maybe "That's a badger, not a fish Mole". ;)
