Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

I'm not sure tbh.

I would say though, if it was viable, you'd probably have to still do a patch, as generally theyre free fly events seem to be when they also push out a new ship or two to the real world currency market

Next noob question - if I land a ship or drive a buggy on a planet, and then I log out, does the ship remain like it does in Space Engineers or does it vanish like in Elite? If it remains, does it give off a signal, or is it only visible to the naked eye? And if it remains, do I need to be in bed / bunk for my character to remain alive while offline?

Yes, once its installed its installed, for the next free fly event it will be patched through the launcher, like a game in Steam, every 3 months there is a major patch.

It will vanish. You need to log out from the bunk bed inside the ship if there's one (and use the specific "thought action" to do so), in order for the ship and your character to persist. Do it at your own risk though: doing so on the surface on a planet is almost certain to spawn you back under the surface or at least trigger a physics engine hiccup. Only do it in deep space if you can. And then again, people have spawned back at the location of the star (which has no 3D model itself it's just a point light). With, or without their ship... Have fun with all these bugs ;)

If the ship has a bed and you log out in the bed you will, or rather should wake up in the bed and the ship will be where you logged out, i say should as this doesn't always work, tho i use it all the time and recently its never failed to work, that could change.

if you just log out without doing that you will wake up where you have your spawn point set and you will have to claim the ship, which only takes a few minutes through the ship retrieval console.

Can I install it (or at least download it) any time I want, then activate it during free fly week?
CIG push so many patches out I would suspect it would inevitably need a new patch downloading. I also found I had some issues with needing to create a new account each time with the free flies, for some reason my old free fly account no longer worked.

Combat logging is proving to be a problem in SC

The ship/vehicle despawns when you do.

I'm assuming all your accounts are free then, no purchased "real" accounts?

Do any ground vehicles have bunks? In Space Engineers, I built an RV and went on a multi-week cross-planet drive, and I found the journey surprisingly enjoyable (kudos to @Alec Turner for giving me the idea). Of course this means the vehicle needs to be where I left it when I "wake up". In SE, all assets persist whether you're logged in or not, so there is no "despawning". Would I be able to do something similar in SC, or does the despawn mechanism prevent this kind of gameplay?

Unfortunately not, No vehicles in SC have beds and there is no other way to save your progress if you're planet exploring.

Good idea tho, they should do something for that.

Really? If you log out in a ground vehicle you won't be where you were next time you log in? I guess I won't be rushing to start the Star Citizen branch of the Planetary Circumnavigation Club then! 😆
Also, sounds like I need to google Space Engineers now ... I had no idea it was the sort of game where this kind of thing was possible.

it does save your position if you bedlog, no clue what this guys talking about

But if a ground vehicle has no bed, how do you bed log? Can you drive to an outpost and rent a room there? You can in Space Engineers (though the spacing between outposts can be hours apart).

Too bad you can't set up a temporary camp to bedlog at, regardless of your ship's / SRV's accommodations. (You know, like you can in Space Engineers.)

There are emergency shelters and outposts on the surface of the planets and moons, they have beds in them but as it stands right now you can't use them to log out, may be in the future, i'm sure its just an over sight as bed logging is in and working, the bed's in emergency shelters and outposts just need to be made available for logging.
