I mean, that's male deer in general; too much testosterone in their system at that time of the year, they'd lock horns with anything nearby, no matter size or species differences:
well i didn´t put 5 animals more so this is my +5 and my replaces animals from the dlcs
21.- Prewalski´s Horse
22.- White-tiled deer
23.- Sea otter
24.- Grey crowned crane
25.- Watusi
Replaces animals:
9.- Cougar to South American Coati
13.- Beaver to Ocelot
16.- Prairie Dog to Nine-Banded Armadillo
Yeah, for ungulates in particular there's a pretty good thread with numbers for all species with a Species Survival Plan from 2019. There were 11 facilities in the US with moose at that point. It's not unreasonable to assume there's at least a few in non-AZA facilities which wouldn't get counted in this list, but it's still a far cry from the 100+ zoos with them in Europe. I'm actually really surprised to see the number that high given how notably uncommon they are in NA.

Leopard: One way or another the game needs a true leopard, but if I can choose one I would prefer African as they are pretty iconic zoo game animals, despite not being common in real zoos. Also if I am not mistaken, they are the most arboreal which means more unique requirements and maybe even new toys.
Two-toed sloth: I don't mind whether it is Linnaeus's or Hoffman's. Three-toed sloths are very rare in captivity and if I'm not wrong very difficult to keep.
Red river hog: Very unique and gorgeous looking suid. Also common in zoos.
Fossa: The game needs a proper predator from Madagascar.
Gelada: A rather popular zoo species as of late.
Asian small-clawed otter: Cute, small and popular. Should be the second otter for the game.
Spectacled bear: If we get another bear, this one would be my first choice.
Bennett's or yellow-footed rock wallaby: A smaller alternative to the red kangaroo for building smaller areas. I don't mind either species.
Scimitar-horned oryx: A very common zoo species despite being extinct in the wild. Also would go well with the new desert pieces we have.
Dromedary: Another desert species for the new construction pieces.
Black rhino: I think still essential, would also go well with the desert theme.
Sumatran rhino: Would go well with the game's conservation theme. Also proven to be kept and bred successfully in captivity recently. And very unique looking.
Collared peccary: We have a rig named after them, yet no peccary.
Tasmanian devil: Such a unique and popular animal to not have.
Bush dog: Cute and quite different to what we have now for canids.
Emu: A must have Australian animal, also common in zoos.
Quokka: Has taken the internet by the storm, also very unique for a zoo game.
White-nosed coati: No zoo is complete without coatimundis!
African civet: Another smallish predator that I think would be quite unique for the game.
Pallas's cat: The game's lacking in the department of small cats.
The rest of my choices will be smaller monkeys, which I think the game lacks. Smaller primates pretty much dominate zoo collections.
It depends on whether fishers and tayras are deemed martens or not; still, wolverines are more of a giant ground marten and less of a badgerlike underived mustelid. Not much of a trascendant topic, just a trivial factoid, sorry for the derailing.
Hey folks, as I've noticed we have quite a few new forums users here, it would be great if you all could also head over to the meta-suggestions list and give your thoughts on it!
After roughly half a year, and following the requests made by numerous forum users, I'm setting up this thread in order to start another 'Essential animals meta-wishlist' where I record users' animals wishlists and put them all together on a meta-wishlist. Given that we've gotten 3 DLCs since I started the previous thread; this time around I ask you all to please post a list of just 25 habitat animals.
The more people participating, the bigger the sample size will be so better conclusions can be drawn. I’m writting down every user who posts their list in order to avoid having repetitions. I intend to keep this updated as much as I can. Last update: 15th April, 2022
Since December 2021: #Important note 1: Everyone who has submitted an initial list with 20 animals is allowed to vote for 5 additional animals now!#
Since April 2022: #Important note 2: After every announced DLC, everyone who has submitted X votes to animals that have been added in said DLC can now re-submit an equal number (X) of additional votes ONLY if they quote their original post*1. This 'rule' has a retroactive effect*2; meaning that you can re-submit votes if your animals made it to the NA Animal Pack, Europe Pack or Wetlands Animal Pack. *1 For people that submitted a list before 25 animals were allowed (so only 20) but then made an additional 5, both posts or a combination of both should be included in the quote. *2 If I find that any of the quoted posts have been edited recently, I will not allow re-voting animals to this user.#
The spirit and basic rules of the thread will be similar to those of the first one. Which means:
For the sake of keeping the same wishlist structure, I ask you to post your 25 essential habitat animals that you’d like to see in the game. Lists with anything above 25 animals will be discarded.
Exhibit animals will be omitted from the main meta-wishlist. Exhibit animals include arthropods, amphibians, snakes, other small reptiles (< iguanas), small fish and mouse-size mammals.
Flying birds and bats usually housed in aviaries will be omitted from the main meta-wishlist. Flying aviary birds include birds of prey, parrots, Columbiformes (pigeons), Passeriformes (small birds), Charadriiformes (gulls) and so on. Mainly ground-dwelling or semi-aquatic birds (mainly Waterfowl, Galliformes, Ratites, Pelecaniformes, Cranes, Penguins, etc.) will be added to the list.
Extinct species will not be considered.
As a general rule of thumb, animal species is the preferred category for animal submissions. Subspecies from already in-game animals are also accepted. Subspecies from animals that are not in-game will automatically be allocated to the superior species category. Specific domestic animals breeds are also accepted.
To simplify data collection, those answers that include several species in one slot (eg.: 1. Sloth) will be automatically treated as a single animal and added to the most requested species inside that generic animal group (eg. in this case: Brown-Throated Three-Toed Sloth). This obviously leads to an underestimation of the total key requested animals.
As you can see, a total of 600 animals have been considered 'essential' by at least one forum user.
TL;DR: Post your 25 essential habitat animals wishlist here. I will record each wishlist and add it to the Meta-list. Aviary and exhibit animals won’t be taken into consideration.
