Are you sure that's a Mouflon on that Picture? Never seen one with that Coloration before. Could be a domesticated Sheep or a Hybrid.
Definitely nice that there are more Votes for european Animals

Yes it is, in a winter coat :) there is variation in horn shapes and sizes, amount of red and black in the coat, and the size of the white patch on the back/sides. Some mouflons are very pale, others are very dark, some hardly have any black, others have lots of black, some have a large white patch, others don't have a white patch at all. And everything in between.

Elk is a loaded word that may refer to 2 different animals; wapiti leaves no room for confusion.

I personally would go with the European animal, Cervus elaphus, as it fits the classic, European theme scenery pieces related to the animal we already have, but, Cervus canadensis turned out to range deep into Eurasia after all, so, either of them would be diverse. Still, widely understood as separate species, can't pull a moose or a grey wolf with them.

I wish we had a more European looking variant of the moose. All it needs is less impressive looking antlers. At the moment I will only use the females in my European zoo as the male looks too North American.

I have never heard the term elk for Cervus elaphus, but it could be a lenguage unknowledge, because we use the word wapiti. Anyway both animals are so similar that I don't have any preferences between them. I just want another big and majestic cervid apart from moose.
