ObsidianAnt: Frontier - What The HECK Is Going On With Elite Dangerous?

Arthur confirmed a update 12 and we have the people working on the game talking about how excited they are to show us what they have been up to and....

Yes, they are working on patch 12 but there is no info what it will contain. Maybe something big or just some bugfixing.

Also the "they are excited about it" info is meaningless without further information. Of course they say how great the patch and the content is and how excited they are, thats their game and more important their job. I would be more suprised if one of the devs or CM would say "we are working on patch 12 but to be honest, its medicore at best".

With patch 12 ED is at the crossroads (for me). It is the first real patch in the post console era and they must show now that the game has a future.

This thread is a trap. I'll save my thoughts for the video's comment section.

BTW, I have not watched this video yet, but I did watch OA's Star Citizen livestream, which had no doom at all in it. In fact, OA went out of his way to avoid talking about the negatives of Odyssey in that video. I also regularly watch Buur's videos. The blanket statement "doom wins" isn't a one-size-fits-all truth.
Why would he talk about EDO in an SC live stream?

:D S

Before this all gets silly like it usually does, can I just point out that the forum distaste is generally for people posting YT vids instead of posting an actual forum post with things they want to say or discuss.

The dislike for people doing that doesn’t equate to a dislike for the original creator of the video.

(I shouldn’t really have to point this out, but as it seems to need doing every time I just thought I’d get in early on this one! 😀)

Edit - though this one seems like it might be an exception to the normal principle. 😬

That's true.

Some people do seem to have an irrational bee in their bonnet about OA though.

Judging by the number of views OA gets for ED "doom" content compared to featuring other space games, I guess this is how the tabloid press came about. Tell the people how to think because that is what they want, say it enough and it will probably be true.

You can just unsubscribe and enjoy your niche' space games in peace, without having someone tell you that its apparantly dying and you probably should play flight simulator or something instead.

This weekend's chocolate gift from Frontier has been keeping me pretty calm. :D

Why? He did a lot for the community. Are you going to hate on everyone that has a different opinion to yours?
That's how the world apparently works these days. Everyone retreating into their echo chambers of likeminded individuals, getting their own views reinforced and no longer forced to deal with views that might challenge that. That begins alienation, individual groups no longer talking with each other, but rather about each other or maybe ignoring each other completely. This is the start of how societies fall apart, that is how wars eventually start.

Yeah, though I think a lot of that comes from how OAs videos have been used by people on the forums.

As I recall, when OA started some forum threads directly with a written post, the responses were all pretty civil and it was a good discussion.
Yeah you could be right there.

Pointless video rants not from devs are about as useful as forum rants.
I would pay the tax required for viewing such a rarity vid like a ranting one from devs, just so you can have your point. Especially Frontier devs...maybe they can replace the monday schedule with one of those, just for laughs, since they quit or not on these announcements too.

I'd say if there were fewer doomsayers, we'd see fewer white knights (or vice versa if you like that better). Every reaction provokes a counter-reaction. A universal truth that does not only apply to wars (but is very obvious there). It hardly matters who started the nonsense. As a rule, it was always the "others".
In the end both are just people with different opinions who should then have a civil discussion about the matter. But both the ability and the will to do that have been pretty much lost in this time and age.

The "lack of confidence of delivering" was evident when the "seasons" model was stopped. The season model went off the rails pretty quickly.

With FD, "No news isn't good news", it's actually quite worrying, and has been an indication of bad news ahead, take the cancellation of the console platforms, one recent examples.

Producing some kind of road map would be beneficial for the Elite community, it will be something to look forward to and have reasonable confidence that the game is still being developed in full. That's assuming FD can deliver, which brings us to the point that FD may not have the full confidence they can deliver.

The 10 11 months for so has been taken up by fixes for Odysey, with some new content here and there. This is the result of Odysey being released far too early.

"They can't wait to share what's coming"... well, they said that a few months ago, and still silence.

FD promised better communication last year, initially, their communication was good, but that didn't last for long.

ED still has potential, but FD needs to start getting back on track, delivering new content on a regular basis.
