What did you do in Planet Zoo today?

I'm still ill but thanks god it's not covid (just got my PCR result)
I'm having a similar problem. I've had a killer sore throat for a few days but my RATs keep coming back negative, and I can't take time off work to get a PCR since only me and one other guy are on at the moment.

Your snow leopard enclosure looks utterly fantastic. I hope like hell that we get triangular mesh pieces one day, I'd love to do something like that with a roof.

Edit: I should say, with a roof that has sides I guess. 😅 That is one weird bug that makes it invisible.

I need help/advice. I'm designing a "Think Tank" directly lifted from the National Zoo's, a building renovated from a monkey house into a study of animal intelligence. Other than primates (current plan is Orangutan and Lemurs or Macaques), are there any other species (especially exhibits, which would fit nicely) which provide additional insight into the minds of animals?

Any animal could be used for that, but especally common from those in game right now are pinipeds like seals and sealions

It's a Shame that we don't have a Octopus in the Game. Would fit so perfectly in there. Also Parrots or Ravens😕
I think Monitor Lizards are the smartest Reptiles, so maybe one of those

Interesting! If not for space concerns and using them elsewhere in the park, those would work great!
Pigs are also very intelligent, not less than cetaceans I think. So maybe the babirusa or warthog could be an unusual but good choice.
Another good idea; I have warthogs right next door so maybe I'll incorporate them into the theming.

Oh yeah, an octopus, bird, or even a rat or hermit crab (kept in the real Think Tank) would be wonderful. I'll definitely consider the monitor, though -- it could be a great option!

Wolves / canids?
Elephants?
Scarab beetle? (Some nocturnal dung beetles use the milky way to navigate!)

Worked on the ticketing area of my new zoo :) Going for a bright and colorful zoo; leaning into that mid-century style with a few modern additions.

Shame we don't have an ant farm or bee hive exhibit since they are an interesting example of individuals not really showing signs of intelligence but the whole superstructure of the organism becoming almost like a conscious mind. Maybe you could use the termite mound enrichment and display that?

Friend of mine had a really interesting project where they literally put bar codes on ants so they could track their movements in an artificial space using little sensors. The ants would look for a new nest site and when they found one they think is suitable they would leave a pheremone trail to recruit other ants to that site which would then strengthen the trail (it's kind of like a democracy as the majority wins.

They found that when looking for a new nest site some ants were really conservative (they'd travel really far because only a perfect nest site would do), some ants were pretty in the middle and some were really happy go lucky and would take the first semi-suitable nest site they could find. The ratio of ants in each category was pretty much the same between colonies which suggests some kind of evolutionary advanatge with having that ratio to make a decision - choose too fast and you might have a poor nest site that is vulnerable to predators or flooding but be too picky and it could take too long and your eggs are not moved to a safe nest in time. Effectively each ant was acting like a basic computer set with one fo three different rules for finding a nest BUT the whole colony is the mind where a 'decision' is reached.

I might have explained that badly! Was very cool though.

I started more work on my new franchis zoo which I'm trying to build around evolutionary stories. So near the entrance I have my insect garden - spent a long time today trying to make a sign to go behind the talk point at the entrance and eventually found some good images online. Always challenging to make sure it is fully legible in game but this one worked out ok

Oh, that's super cool! And yeah, using the termite enrichment for that could be cool.

I wish for Bees for such a long Time already 😕
Is there a Zoo that exhibits them in a big Formicarium that has a Opening that leads out of the Building so they can collect Nectar? (At least that's how I would do it)
A Formicarium would be cool. Even though they are one of the most interesting Ants, Leafcutter Ants probably wouldn't be the best Choice for the Game if they should decide to make them realistic. One Colony of them can get so big that it can fill a whole Room. I think the best Choice for Ants in the Game would be selecting a Species based on Size to guarantee maximal Visibility.
I've used the Termite Mound once just to exhibit the Animals (was in a Indoor Elephant Enclosure though, so no Close Up View for the Guests) and even made a Education Sign for it. Would be so nice if we would have a Version of it with a Glass Panel on one Side, so it's possible to look inside. I guess this could probably be done by expanding the Termite Mound by the Use of Fake Tree Pieces or Rocks and then placing a Billboard there but from my Experience with Billboards it would look washed out and they would probably always look way too oversized

@markun You are on a roll! I'm completely in love with the style of your zoo.

So, I made most of this yesterday, just did some detailing this morning. Obviously there is still a bit of work. This was meant to be a Snow Leopard habitat, but turned out too big, so a pack of Polar Wolfes moved in and switched places with the Snow Leopards in Murmeldorf (that I still have to build for now, obviousl).

It's such a rewarding feeling to have a list with habitats you can check off!
