Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

You've basically summarised two important aspects that define my exploration career in Odyssey.
  • I'll never use a Phantom ever again, it can't land anywhere.
  • I'll never do exobiology with my alt. Reaching Elite with my main was enough, until the mechanics are improved.
I will keep hiking in small ships, because it's beautiful, but my space hairdryer will be gathering dust, perhaps resting on the seat of the Phantom, somewhere in a hangar!
I've actually not tried landing on a planet with the Krait MKII and didn't realise it was an issue. Though I also default to my Cobra MKIII when it comes to general exploration, since that's my primary ship and he should get first dibs. Plus he's very reliable at getting me out of scrapes. I'm more comfortable with it.

No, Guardian and Thargoid don't mix. At the site where you are getting the fragments, though, you have to shoot the probes to make fragments, then pick 'em up with your SRV. You can log off and on to refresh the site. Don't pick up the probes themselves, just the fragments (probes are corrosive).
This was the last engineer mission I was on last year. I recall having to scan the planet and also look for coordinates after leaving glide. It wasn't that tricky in the end though. At least it was something different which taught you something about the game rather than just being a huge grind.

It is a long... long way to get here. I had the luxury of a 70.48ly unladen jump range. To think commanders did this with 34ly jump range ships.
The first thing that happened when a I got here - cruise ship announcement about something on the promenade.
Second thing that happened - pirate in a Cobra MKIII complaining I had no cargo and what a waste of time.

Need a beer...

Purdy.

Maybe it's just by imagination but I seem to notice a lot of Krait fans recently. Particularly Phantom.
In many commanders opinion including mine, the Krait Phantom is the best exploration ship, and I've been exploring for some time and just reached Beagle Point.
Krait MKII is also my favourite combat/multi purpose ship. If I could only have one ship, it would be a Krait MKII.

Oh, while preparing for unlocking Prof. Palin, just to realize CHLOE SEDESI provided the exact same engineering and requirement...

So I have to get 50 sensor fragments to unlock both of them 🤦‍♀️ When will the engineering revamp come.

I'm currently at 897/5000 ly jump for these f__kers

Question, the site to find those sensor fragments, I can find stuff for unlocking other guardian stuff there as well?
I never bothered with CHLOE SEDESI. Prof Palin is better located.
If you are going 5000ly for prof Palin, I suggest Jelly Fish nebula as a destination. The sensor fragments are on the way, as are the planets with crystal shards where you can max out all your grade 4 raw material stocks except for Selenium. When flying to the Jelly Fish nebula from the last crystal shard site, you can't plot a direct route. You need to plot to somewhere about 2/3rds the way there and then plot the last leg to Jelly Fish nebula that is 5029ly from your starting point and looks interesting.

I think I agree with this, although I have to add that I would be very sad to only have one ship. I love my Krait, sure, but what I've been doing lately is more suited to the DBX, so I've been spending a lot of time in that ship. I really appreciate its ability to land nearly anywhere. The Krait isn't quite as easy to find a landing spot for (not that it's overly hard, either, but just sayin'). I like flying the right ship for the right job, at least these days.

Thinking about it, it's been quite a while since I outfitted a ship for multi-role. Maybe since I got the carrier? No, I think even before, but the carrier did reduce the problems of having ships targeted to just one role, cuz I can just take everything with me, everywhere.

Anyway, yeah. If I could only have one, I think the Krait MKII would be pretty ideal.

I'm pretty sure I couldn't do with only one ship - it's far too restrictive. I would have to have, oh, six? The cutter for mining, the 'vette for pew pew, the phantom for explo, the T9 for cargo, the python for mission running and the chieftain for Oddy missions. I doubt I'd play the game at all with just the one ship! :D

Question: my Mav suit seems to be my go-to at the moment. It has improved battery, extra backpack and night vision. There is one space left - what should I put in it? Quieter footsteps or improved sprint duration? Or something else entirely?

I also need to upgrade my intimidator to G5... and that will then have two free slots. Dunno about that yet.

I put faster shield regen in there, because it helps quite a bit with doing combat in the Mav (and I do wind up in combat with it fairly often). I have the same as you in the other 3 slots.

My Intimidator has

︎ STOWED RELOADING
︎ AUDIO MASKING
lol -- I pasted that. Looks cool so I'm leaving it.

I've never filled the 4th slot. Nothing seems needed.

I use a DBX for short range exploration within 1000ly of the bubble for the easy landing. Also using it for ground missions now I've moved to Odyssey. So yes, spending a lot of time in the DBX. Phantom is for long range exploration and the occasional single passenger group missions sight seeing.

Completely agree re faster shield regen on the Mav suit. On my first mav suit I went with (all the above plus) quieter footsteps but ended up being convinced I didn’t need it. Then G5’d another with faster shield regen and only ever use the Mav suit. I don’t do lots of on foot stuff but it works perfectly well for everything I do, including combat.

I‘ve just got Odyssey for my last account and it’s only now sinking in that despite having no great inclination to do much foot stuff I’m still, inevitably, going to have to find a G3 Mav suit and a Tormentor (if that’s the pistol…it really has been a while.)

Both the Kraits have a pretty large footprint, I am using my Phantom at the moment and it can be quite frustrating at times but the trade off between being nice to fly and carry what I want against can land anywhere is worth it for me generally.

Maybe it's partly because I'm broke but I do prefer multi-role capabilities in whatever class I buy.

And I saw your Beagle pics. Very cool. It reminds that there are still plenty of exploration opportunities beyond trips to Colonia. Well done, CMDR! (y) o7 o>

I'm using a DBX for ground missions on my alt. Works well. But on Codger I use a Viper MKIV. Tougher shields and better weapons can sometimes matter, plus I just like the ship. It's painted all black and looks pretty sleek and stealthy. I'm not saying it IS stealthy, but it looks like it is. :p

My version of ground salvage / missions involves dumb fire missiles to kill on foot opponents from the ship, and circa 500mj shields is enough to protect the ship from hand held weapons. Quain's Colonia ground mission ship is the Cobra MKIII with a good amount of engineering to get the shield strength up.
Dumb fire missiles go on the DBX central hardpoint, and the medium hardpoint in front of the pilot on the Cobra. I tried missiles on the Cobra small hard points, but they were close to impossible to aim at small ground targets.
So I don't have any suit or gun engineering - the ship blows up the ground opponents.
I would quite like an Artemis suit that could jump between mountain tops, but there is always something better to do than grind personal equipment materials long enough to get anywhere with it.

don't talk rubbish, there no krait in this picture :)

ship kit finally transfer over, after talking to support i've finally found that i still using the old isp email. Which is no longer in use. thanks to vostock and ikaros......
