fastest 5 billion challenge

Money has no meaning in ED
For long standing players with good money making loops maybe. Personally, I'm a year and a half into the game, I have 12bn in assets but I'm fairly cash poor right now. I also have many more ship purchases to make before I have run out of options. I have plenty of cash making ways to turn to but I also enjoy plenty of the less cash making gameplay so I'm in no hurry to raise funds. If you're playing the game to the full then say that you could easily have 15-20bn in assets to suit most purposes. Plus add a further 5-10bn cash reserve on the carrier to stop worrying about it.

I'd say really that cash is no problem if you're not spending it anymore or you really have hit that 40bn limit with every single ship in every single configuration you care for.

Been here a year and a half myself, have my FC and 42 ships all engineered.
9 Billion on the FC for trit and funding exploration which is my main thing, its so refreshing to play a game where getting credits is easy.
I burned out on games where you have to grind for hours and hours just to upgrade a small amount of gear.

Money has no meaning in ED. It stopped being a matter years ago (unfortunately).

We kept hearing this for years.
And when carrier costs were revealed in 2020, a lot of people started to complain about them being too expensive and the upkeep was omg

So it's always better to stay on the safe side and adjust your gaming loops to include some decent money grabs.
I'm still annoyed they nuked mining so badly, They could have left profitable at least the Core mining since it has rather low yields, really low respawn rate and mapped mining is rather useless compared with laser mining.

However, they at least improved the cash grabs for the combat pilots, both generic and AXI (but maybe a bit too much for pro side of AXI i'd say - the current fed CG where people dropped up to 15 billions in bonds really vouches for that), but to improve the combat payments they really shouldnt have killed the mining.

I have been playing since 2014, triple elite for ages, did pretty much everything you can possibly do.

Am halfway to a carrier.

That is the issue I have with these discussions. Yes, you can easily grind to 5billion in s couple dozen hours but you can also do everything but grinding and get nowhere close.

Absolutely.
Money dont just fall from the sky. To get billions one need to get seriously and repeatedly involved in the current cash grabs, which most of the time rely on stacking missions (passenger, massacre, combat - whatever stacked missions) or mapped mining

However the limited timed cash grabs, like certain CG, were the things that got my 3rd alt his carrier (the shameless materials relogging cg being the main one - got a bit over 4bn out of it - and the CG that seen the Carriers prices reduced to 3.5bn) and the vast majority of its wealth

It still requires quite an amount of grinding (iirc it can do for about 100-120 millions per hour - within the current crash grabs)
Well, I've only fought for the BGS so far, never went out of my way to find High CZs or participate in combat CGs.

The relevant question is "how many hours?".

I think the honest answer will show it doesn't quite "fall out if the sky". And I guess you did the 'relog to reset cz' thing too.

It was mostly a reference to Northpin's comment as they do literally fall from the sky, I wasn't trying to say it's the fastest way to get to 5B or trying to hide any pertinent facts for that matter.

But since you asked, in ideal circumstances (small settlements with a High CZ) I guesstimate that would've taken me at least 50 hours. And yes, I did obviously relog for every batch of CZs, I'm not going to call in my ship or take Frontline every time just to reset the instance. I've always done that for ship CZs in the past as well, my apologies if that's considered bad form.

During the last combat CG a couple of weeks ago, I made 1.3 billion just doing the CG, which was normal pirate farming. Although quite repetitive, you have the added competition of getting into the next highest pay bracket - in my case, I was trying to get to no.1 in 4.5 days instead of 7. I nearly made it.

I think if you wanted to try this challenge you'd want to pay attention to the day you started - kicking off about 12 hours before the weekly tick would give enough time to pledge to one of the powers that give the 100% bounty hunting bonus, raise money for a decent cargo ship and then transport 10000 merits to get grade 5...

Yeap, but that's the stuff a knowledgeable player will know to do and will already have the skill set to pull it off.
It's not something that a freshman to Elite will be able to do even if some more or less known ytuber will put up a guide for it...

For instance, my second first alt (aka my first PC account) took it slow, used a different ship progression that the main and flew without any engineering for more than 3 months.
Then carriers were announced and all the slow leisurely pace went down the drain. One year later, that account had close to 30bn in cash when the carriers were launched.

My second PC account (the free Epic) just transferred 1 bn from the first PC account (the one mentioned above) using a carrier - then took it leisurely through the content 🤷‍♂️ :)

Eye of the beholder and such. It's not that I am judging, it's just that such choices matter a lot. For those who do take the shuttle (for example because they can't/won't chain many CZs per session) it will easily take 15-20% longer. Personally I don't see the issue with this type of logging fwiw, you are basically skipping a glorified loading screen to get to the action faster.

In regards to general credit-earning, I’d be interested to see what the average player earns per hour. My personal expectation is that the players on the forums represent essentially the 1%.

Credits earning does seem to be way up across the board, but it can take an entire evening of playing to complete a 1.5 million mission even with the increase if you’re not focusing on specific credit farming schemes.
