Is ED nearing the end of its lifespan?

The question now can Elite Dangerous be saved.
So many stepping away

I doubt it. A game like this one, one that's lacked a lot of depth if people are honest, relied a lot on the community to provide events, projects and interactive storylines like Wagar's Premonition. Players always got the best out of what they were given and filled in the gaps the devs wouldn't or couldn't, but once that community drifts away, or the long established and respected events and projects that thousands of players once enjoyed at some point begin closing down, then the days are numbered.

Can the game be saved? Only by a developer that keeps it interesting and fresh, and one that communicates with and works alongside its community, especially the creative parts of that community. Today Frontier no longer tick any of those boxes. Interestingly, during the period OA mentions in his video, Frontier ticked them all, and reaped the rewards of regular gaming mag headline making player created content, and PR boosts the current Frontier could only dream about.

He is only reporting on the changes to the Galactic Mapping Project by Cmdr Erimus.
You can read for your self on the Elite forum under Exploration/Galactic Mapping Project.

But I guess it’s easier to jump on OA for just reporting the current happening to Elite
Y'now, there's positive click bait as well as negative, not to mention vids that have hidden doom.
He's just a portent of doom these days and i only see him as someone pushing their agenda, and those who support him, to the detriment of the game.
I can only imagine if we had a player council and how bad that would have been if he, and others at the time, had of been on it.
I'm just so disappointed..

If nothing else; Last week the game served us what I must imagine constituted a fair few pounds worth of probably professional voice acting, and composing, on top of internal man-hour expenditure on planning, managing, writing, recording (own studio, or actors' home-studios, or rental? Travelling involved?) and editing, and inserting it into the game.

I further imagine VA for the entire season is likely to have been completed in a block of sessions, already, for efficiency reasons, but wouldn't be surprised if a small slice of budgeting has been allocated for an unforseen pick-up or two.

Whether one's definition of: "maintenance mode" includes such things, would depend on how one value them...

FDev release an alpha build as final product, spend 12 months trying to fix it, while simultaneously breaking the existing game, then cancel support for consoles, but you're worried about OA doing things "to the detriment of the game"?

Honestly, if anyone wants ED to fail (spoiler: they don't) they just need to cheer on FDev and hope they keep doing what they're doing.

It's what it's doing now.
I know more than many because i got ruled out pretty early and upgrades were ruled out so i'm looking at a fresh build. Then there's the cost of living thing... complicated.
I did get over it, and not for the first time.
The planets were the problem, a person baked in something they should not have.
That's what they said, prolly led to consoles cancelled at a high stress time when no one knew what covoid was, but a worry nonetheless.
Bad things happen.
OA knows his vids come up on a search for ED.
Continued negative press is not helpful.

Well in two day we'll hopefully know a little more. :)

Personally I hope that they've put these last few months to good use, and that we soon get an Update 12 with general bug fixes, performance, and lighting/shadow improvements.

Pretending everything is awesome and suppressing news because it's negative is also not helpful.

Nail on head (y)

OAs video was very positive and praising of Elite and the community initiatives that were born out of it. Pity banana didn't watch it, or if he did, saw nothing but negatives and by reflex action, jumped to Frontiers defense ... because.. reasons <shrug> 🧐

If Elite is nearing the end of its lifespan... is Star Citizen also nearing the end of its lifespan?
How can something die if it was never alive to begin with?
