Anti-aliasing!

Greetings Commanders,

We’d like to thank you all for your patience whilst we’ve been working on our communications and development plans for the remainder of the year.

Following the launch of Odyssey, our primary focus has been on performance, optimisation and bug fixing, along with adding more features. This focus has had a knock-on effect with regards to our plans for this year and beyond and delayed our communications.

We understand the concern and frustration this has caused and hope this post goes some way to alleviate those feelings. Below we discuss profile transfers for console players and give an overview of the updates coming before the end of 2022.

Console Profile Transfers

We can now confirm that players will be able to copy their profiles from console to PC in light of Odyssey’s cancellation on Xbox and PlayStation. This process will be time limited and optional. We will provide a date for this process once it is confirmed.

The original profile will remain playable on console and the new PC profile will be a copy. Only one profile may be copied over per copy of the game. Please also be aware that this will be a one-time only process.

Elements that will be copied
  • Ships, Holo-Me, weapons, SRVs and SLFs
    • Including Cobra Mk IV if owned
  • Core progression (this includes…)
    • Inventory
    • Reputation
    • Navy Ranks
    • Permits
    • Codex Discoveries
    • Engineering progress
    • Guardian Tech Broker progress
  • NPC Crew progress
  • Cosmetics*
*Cosmetic items applied through the Livery (ships and Fleet Carriers) and Holo-Me will remain applied.

Elements that won’t be copied
  • Commander name*
  • ARX Balance**
  • Squadron membership
  • Friends lists, Block lists and Private Groups
  • Current mission progress
  • NPC Crew names and appearances

*The process will require a new name to be chosen if the original name is not available on PC.

**ARX balances cannot be transferred. We recommend that anyone who submits their account for the transfer process purchases any desired cosmetics beforehand. Any unspent ARX post-transfer will remain available on the original console profile.

Fleet Carriers and their contents

Fleet Carrier ownership cannot be transferred from one Commander to another. To players that wish to own a Fleet Carrier post-transfer we would advise the following:
  1. Decommission your Fleet Carrier ahead of the transfer
  2. Wait for the decommissioning to complete (two weeks).
  3. Check that credits from the decommissioning have been returned.
  4. Complete the profile transfer process
  5. Re-purchase a Fleet Carrier on PC
Precise dates for the opening and close of this process will be announced closer to the time.

Roadmap

Here we present our top-level roadmap for the remainder of 2022. Our three focuses before the year ends are launching the next phase of the narrative, stability and optimisation. We’ll release three more updates to support these.

Within the narrative, human space balances on the precipice as tension mounts within the bubble. The Azimuth Saga will conclude in a grand finale event, the consequences of which will mark the beginning of the next stage of the Elite story in Update 14.

Meanwhile, updates 12 and 13 will largely focus on quality-of-life changes, stability and optimisation. Work has also begun on a major feature overhaul for 2023 that we’ll discuss later in the year.

Please note that the details and timings of each release are subject to change and that any adjustments will be shared ahead of time. Beyond this we are also discussing additional game content, and we’ll reveal it once confirmed.

Development Updates and Streams

Following the launch of Odyssey in 2021, we started publishing monthly development posts to share our progress on subsequent updates. In light of the remaining updates for 2022 being confirmed above, these will not continue. However, we will still provide detailed patch notes, information, and other relevant details around updates and hotfixes as they are released between each development post.

Regular streams from the Community team have returned. Going forwards, these will be fortnightly on Thursdays at 16:00-18:00 GMT. This additional time between streams will allow us to put on longer shows and take full advantage of the in-office studio. Frameshift Live has only just started and we have many exciting ideas to explore in the future! If you have not been watching, these streams now feature new and exclusive Twitch Drops that can be earned simply by watching.

We will also be launching our Partnership Programme later this year, offering content creators their own exclusive Twitch drops their communities can earn by watching them. More on this in the coming months!

We hope this post clarifies our continued support and plans for Elite. As always, we thank you for your feedback and support.

This is AWESOME! Having played elite since 1985 on my Atari 800.. and now on my "built for Elite Dangerous" PC, I cannot thank you enough for continuing to move "THE STORY" along. The game is so gorgeous.. I would spend my time exploring between the release of new narrative / story content, but it is so much fun to join the story! Looking forward to a great end to 2022, and to a long future of exciting storylines to come for Elite Dangerous...

And to those who kept on thumping the "ELITE IS DEAD" drum... TAKE THAT! LONG LIVE ELITE DANGEROUS!!!

Thank you Frontier!

Or, if you have & want a carrier

Transfer the playstation CMDR to pc, get them their carrier, then transfer the credits over once they're on the same platform via the market. Tritium is good because it can be set as high as 500k/t and it will eventually come in usefull.

You can even use Geforce now to have both accounts logged in at once to simplify market juggling.
Yeh - it’s an option … except I had a carrier but now my credits are split roughly 3 Billion / 2 Billion so neither account can afford to rebuy one!!

I transferred from xbox to PC quite a while ago and at time was told only money would transfer - i lost all my ships, ship kits, modifications everything i had spent real money on the store for

Now youre saying you can transfer all this? So can i get all my old stuff back ????
Likewise. I transferred from PS4 last year to PC. I believe it should be reviewed in regards to all the transfers from Console to PC in the last few years.

It's on life support. Even yourself have to admit that.

If the August & November updates are meh, or break things, that will delay what ever is going to happen in 2023.

Whatever happens in 2023, will not be what the player base (current and former) really want. It's FDEV whatever can be done to mess up their game, they will find a way.

I don't know how, I don't know why. But they have done things consistently bad over the years, poor game mechanics, poor balancing, poor gameplay loops.

Shout out to the graphics and audio departments though that is Stellar work, as is the simple to grasp complex to master control system, the best out there until you get used to the flight system in the other space game.

I too wanted to play Elite Dangerous with 21st Century game mechanics, but alas they haven't delivered outside a free to play mobile game, but without the purchasable loot boxes. Blimey they even messed that up because they couldn't handle the heat.

Hmm, I wonder what 2023 will bring?

If you watched the livestream they hinted at some significant developments in the story, beyond Galnet and CG content, running up to November. Of course they don't want to spoil any of that content so they didn't say any more than hints.

It's more likely they don't know. I wouldn't be surprised if they haven't nailed down the general areas to address either.

back in 2017, perhaps 2018 Braben himself said there are things out there that the player base hasn't found yet. He can say that because no matter what the player base does there's areas that will never be seen so the "missed content" can be added at pretty much any point and it's "Always" been there.

Pratchett' Discworld nods to this in The Lost Continent. "How long has that mountain been there?" - "Millions and millions of years!" - "Oh right. Was it there last Tuesday?". Or something along the same gist.

Perhaps that content being referred to was already found? While I'm not saying serve everything on a plate, the clues are out there. Why they have to be decoded out of game, I don't know but that's FDEV for you.

Sooo given your console account is not deleted, just copied, decommission FC, copy account, recommission FC on both accounts... ? Presuming your CR for decommissioned FC end up in both accounts as its a copy...
Don't think it works like that, you only get the credits once the carrier is actually decommissioned. Once a Carrier is Decommissioned you can not recommission it. You would need to purchase a new one.

Keep up the updates and the new mission varieties coming with each update (especially some long-awaited exploration missions cough cough!) and start regularly adding new surface settlements in some areas too IMO, such as the inhabited area around Sag A*. It really helps to put people at ease if we see a slow steady trickle.

However, start rolling out smaller, simple QOL tweaks and minor bug/annoyances more frequently (such as some of the ones I list in my sig). We have such a lot of death by a thousand paper cuts, seeing a few minor things dealt with on a monthly (or even fortnightly) basis would be a huge benefit to help with a feeling of positive momentum.

Well, we know it will be a while yet before this actually goes live, so there's no rush. But now you know it's happening you can progress your PS commander in the knowledge that it won't be abortive work. Bear in mind as well, if you're going to do this, you don't need a big buffer over 5b, you can make the purchase the moment you can afford it (once the transfer has gone through) because the maintenance buffer will be delivered by your other account long before the first round of pay-checks go out to the carrier crew.
Don't think it works like that, you only get the credits once the carrier is actually decommissioned. Once a Carrier is Decommissioned you can not recommission it. You would need to purchase a new one.
They duplicate everything on the account though, so the console commander still has the credits to rebuy one, once the transfer is made.

You left two key details there. Fdev not only, advertised it on said platform, then reversed that decision but subsequently informed everyone that they are stopping development on the existing game on said platform. So not only were players on said platform not getting the new thing they were promised, but they also were losing continued development of what they already had.
That argument would make sense if they'd taken pre-orders for Odyssey. They didn't. Console players bought Horizons and got Horizons, and Horizons is still going to be there along with their accounts for some time to come. Because they planned to offer something else for you to buy from them, and then realized that they can't follow through on that console, doesn't mean that they now somehow owe you that item for free on PC.
So the transfer and a free copy of horizons, is what's Fair. Because that at least restores what they had on now abandoned platform. it returns them to what they had. Now if Fdev said, "Hey here's a copy of odyssey for all the inconvenience." THAT would be generous, because now you giving NEW functionality they didn't have before.
Since you can still play Horizons (the thing you actually bought) on consoles, leaving it at that would've been "fair" (if a jerk move). They don't owe you anything on PC. It is the right thing to do, however, and I applaud them for doing so. Your one-time purchase of Horizons doesn't make Frontier beholden to you for eternity. They're giving you something for free that I've purchased, and I'm honestly delighted about this. To say that that's not enough and you want Odyssey for free too is... not a good look.

You could at least pretend to be happy for the console commanders.
im glad they got what they wanted(although it took "pressure" and too much time to be announced, without a date yet), as i was mad when they were left in the dark and suddenly dropped into oblivion
but this time my disappointment with the overall state of things was bigger, sorry i guess?

Actually I do have a pre-order Odyssey.
Bought before they postponed the console release and now applied to my PC account.
Would like to shift it to the main once it gets copied across.
More immediately why is the rum gone?🥴

- Don't expect much from this company... They don't even have the logic to sell us ships like Star Citizen to make a little money

- I expected at least the VR for Odyssey in 2022
The fact that SC charges real money for in-game ships is the single biggest reason why I will never play SC. It's pay-to-win, and is the bane of good game design. It lets people throw money at a game that's often directly competitive and beat other players with their wallet, rather than their dedication to the game.

On the contrary, Frontier is the model company for Getting It Right when it comes to in-game purchases. When Arx were first announced, I was deeply concerned. As much as I love Elite, if it had become pay-to-win then I would have left. Instead, they made it clear that Arx can only be used to purchase cosmetics that don't affect performance.

In my case at least, it worked. Over the years, I've purchased both the base game and Horizons, and bought Odyssey twice (since I have an Epic alt account that I got for free). And to my surprise, I've spent more on Arx than I have on all of that combined. (My ships, suits, and fleet carrier look good!) Their revenue model works for players like me, and as long as they keep cranking out pretty new things I'll keep being a revenue stream for them.

As an aside, I first became aware of the existence of SC when a friend shared with me a price list for ships, then revealed that it was for real world money. I laughed for 15 minutes solid at the audacity of them to have such a blatant scam. Then I did a little looking into the game and came away genuinely angry at Roberts Space Industries on behalf of their players. Nothing I've seen or heard since then has changed that opinion.

While it's good that actual transfers will be happening, it's unfortunate that they'll be time limited instead of the new norm. Hopefully the transfer window doesn't end before Update 12 and 13's stability and optimisation can be assessed, to avoid FOMO.
