Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

At 10 jumps from my bookmarked discovered system from times long forgotten, I started finding... well, more undiscovered systems. I'm not really that far from the bubble, seems like there's just not many people come out this way. Ngl, most of them weren't very exciting. Good scan value, obviously; unlandable HMCs, a pair of binary WWs, stuff that will get me allied with multiple factions when I get back, but nothing really worth reporting on.

Did eventually reach my target, a large system with an ammonia world, and what turned out to be a few moons with atmospheres. One of which is this terrifying hellscape with 6 kinds of biology on it...

I feel like it's going to take a while to find the others. This place is rough driving.

Once I'm done here, I think I'll probably do a little KGBFOAM investigation of the local area and see what I can turn up. I'd forgotten how much money value you get from first discoveries 😸

What are you up to?
The thread titled asks.

I joined in on this thread not long ago posting what I was up to in the moment, but have not yet shared what my slightly longer term plan was.

On 29 March 3308 I left the bubble with 6.18 billion credits with a goal to earn 1 billion credits in Colonia before returning to the bubble to buy a fleet carrier. So round up a little and my target is 7.2 billion credits before I return. I left the bubble with 20 data courier missions for delivery in the Colonia area. That made me about 30 million on arrival. In the Colonia area, I've done some passenger missions from Diggiggi making about 36 million an hour, laser mining platinum in a new Python I bought which makes 50 to 60 million an hour depending on prices. Then I did stacks pirate massacre missions for quite a while.

That me to the half way point of 6.7 billion when another part of my plan began. If I was ever going to visit Beagle Point and Salome's Reach, it was going to be now. I went for it. I've just arrived back in Colonia from that trip and there are many pictures on this thread from it. I had a great time.
I am in the process of selling the exploration data now - 33 pages! 6.5 million in Exobiology made me a 'Compiler'. As I sell the other exploration data, I'm starting to wonder if the other half billion I need to complete the challenge is going to come from this alone. My NPC pilot takes 10% of everything which is a bit rough considering he's had his feet up catching up with his family and friends in Colonia. This is where I originally employed him as a harmless pilot with an over developed idea of his ability. He's deadly now and some 600+ million credits richer.
I mapped a lot of first discovery water worlds, so I wonder how much the data will sell for...
'Retrieving Data'
... and promotion to Elite I in exploration :D
'Retrieving Data'
...and 7 biillion credit balance...
'Retrieving Data'
... I love it when 1 page sells for over 30 million...
'Retrieving Data'
...bit of a let down when the next page sells for 1.8 million...
'Retrieving Data'
...and the final credit balance is: 7,135,569,158
Roughly 500 million in exploration data sales. Most I've ever done in one trip.

Not far from Colonia I discovered a new ELW in a system with just a neutron star. Exceptionally rare, but nothing special to look at.

So only about 65 million credits to go.
That's one Platinum run which takes an hour plus one or two round trips of passenger missions. I might have to beat up on Brian's Thugs again before I leave. I can't let the crowds of other commanders that do the same here have all the fun.
Maybe I might take the Orca out core mining again. It's really good at it being so fast - finds the next core asteroid quicker than the usual Python/Krait II suspects.

On the way back to the bubble, I think I'll grab a bit more exploration data to sell in a Federation system. One of my future challenges is going to be, Federation Lieutenant to Rear Admiral with a total ban on data courier missions unless it's a rank promotion mission. However long it takes, I'll make Rear Admiral having fun - no grind. I wonder what I can do with a fleet carrier to make that process more entertaining. Thing is, I'm not that eager to own a Federal Corvette. I want to do it because it's there and there is the challenge of a barrier to get over to get one.Tyres O'Flaherty

Congrats. I remember when it took weeks and weeks. Are you gonna buy a Cutter, then?

========================

Today I continued investigating this one system I discovered -- it has a lot of planets I need to search. I didn't find anything too spectacular biology wise today, but I did get a few nice views and whatnot.

Three Rocks of Ubiquity in one screenshot. This particular planet was covered with them. I'm sure I could've found more if I cared to :)

This planet had no features, neither bio or geo. I just went down to see what it looked like, and get a First Footfall. It had the most beautiful deep blue sky. It was a Neon-Rich atmo, mostly Nitrogen.

Gorgeous blue, isn't it?

Then this odd planet, with only a Bacterium on it to scan. But it sure had a red, red, red sunset.

2 more planets to go. Tomorrow :)
I spotted a "Codgers Rock" the other day, and keep seeing them now!

I'm taking an enforced break from the PC at the moment due to a heinous stomach bug, but should be back soon.

Fly dangerously , CMDRs!

Brian's Thugs pirate massacre missions targeting Ratraii system in the Colonia are were thin on the ground today. I found two that were 25 and 35 kills each paying out a total of 25 million. Only two factions offering them. Not a great return on time, but it was enough to put me over 7.2 billion credits which completes my earn 1 billion credits in Colonia challenge. So tomorrow I will fly around in the only Cobra I have in the fleet to make sure I have a blue print pined with all the engineers here. Then I'll do a last round of passenger missions from Diggidiggi in the Orca - again, the only Orca I have as I don't have a use for one in the bubble and I really like flying it for the sounds it makes. It will be months before I come back to Colonia to fly it again. I recon by this time tomorrow I will be back in the trusty Phantom exploration ship to pick up more exploration data and exo-biology samples on the route back to the bubble.

That's right, the mothers on tour needed some exofauna from the Elysian Shore. They returning with a few new houseplants, and a curious tussock-bread recipe. Choosy moms choose to wade in the Elysian tide pools - a veritable interstellar garden center!

The whole trip was aboard a Saud Kruger Orca, nice and safe for mothers, with hull and module reinforcements. We'll be cruising in-system for awhile. And remember, these Altairian Mothers was all in the top 1% of all Mothers! Wheee! At least when we left they was! We had a lot of fun.

Your Altairian Mother was safe all along, at least this time, thanks to Millenium Dolphin Tours, for now, regards, -- cmdr rupee noon.

Hotboxed Luxury Cabin landed at Solo Orbiter on Tuesday 10. May 3308 with a moderate amount of ship integrity remaining. The SRVs at 6% and 26% fuel. Here, a view of Horse Head and the Barnard's Loop, from the return trip early this morning.

And that's what we were up to

Picture of my "good bye for now" flight in the Bronze Mermaid in her stomping ground outside Jacques Station. Always a steady flow of tourists wanting to come here from Diggidiggi. I have one Orca kept here in the Colonia region - one of the treats of visiting this area for me. Until next time...

One of the things that disappoints me from time to time is the way F D missed-out on the chance to make in-game references more "on-point". The outpost at Mies' Claim for example is just a bog standard orbital platform variant - why didn't they take the time to make it something resembling Mies' architectural style? However the biggest disappointment I think was when I first trekked out to HIP 74290 (not such an onerous trip these days) to visit Pratchett's Disc and found this:

Pratchett;s Disc .jpg

I mean, OK I didn't expect to find a Star Turtle with Four Elephants etc - but surely they could have made it a bit more disc-like.

At least they set up the minor factions thoughtfully (look it up to see).

I'll have to go out there in Oddy to see if Death stalks the concourse or the pioneer supplies has some bloke saying his prices are "cutting me own throat".

That sounds fascinating, actually. But I have no idea what you're referring to. I guess my lore knowledge is lacking.
