Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Aggrieved comments about this in the forums often generated replies including the Star Wars meme featuring Admiral Akbar.
Which to be honest is how I tend to look at many things in this game

If I remember correctly those were High Grade Emissions back then - pre engineers of course.

At least it was the Star Wars meme you saw, not the female with a suspicious bulge wiggling under the skirt one. LOL

No Good. Ody turned me into a Kleptomaniac Murder Hobo.
Hey. You can get away with anything if you do it with style.

Has anyone noticed if they have hit exploration payouts with ye olde nerf hammer? I stuck a ticket in for a low payout of 1.2MCr for fully mapping a system which had 8 terraformable bodies - EDD suggested over 6MCr for the system. Support recon it was kosher but I have asked them to check again. If they are only paying 50 to 60 K for a THMC then R2R must be well stuffed.

* Yes they were already mapped but so are R2R bodies.

EDIT:

Well I just checked in game at a totally different system, using a system listed by R2R and the payouts are as expected. So it seems it was just the other system with the issue - presumably the carto calc didn't recognise the THMC worlds. So I'll take that up with support.

You're braver than me. I tend to only use the Cobra for salvage missions because my plan of attack is to quickly grab each target individually using limpets before running like hell as my shields are vapourised. It usually works but there's often sweat streaming down my face as I make my escape.
I'm a sucker for those huge, juicy bounties. As @CMDRQuainMarln said I can faction up and secure the bounties for the credits (I'm having a hard time running away from a fight).

Okay, massive relief.

I saved my binds yesterday using the standard method after a quick google search and finding Para's forum post. I backed the file up and have my own custom name. Then I removed the X52 HOTAS and later went back into the game to take a look. Everything was wiped to defaults. I'd earlier spent a lot of time changing all the on foot controls so, as you can imagine, my immediate response was 'NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!' as I fell to my knees and ripped open my shirt.

I just tried the game again after plugging in the X52 and all my custom settings are suddenly back. Does that seem normal? It seems odd that mouse and keyboard customs like the on foot stuff are tied to a specific controller. If I wanted to change or ditch that controller for full mouse and keyboard I'd have a lot of customising to do.

You removed the stick? That would give a default setup. Plugging it back in would have the game look to your custom binds file sso my guess is that's what happened. I may, as ever, be well wrong.

In fortunately the game does not cope with the situation of sometimes not having a joystick plugged in. I have the same joystick as you. You have to work around this problem. Copy the files in the key bindings folder into a sub folder called kbj (keyboard and joystick). Now unplug joystick and start the game. Reprogram all your key bindings again. When done, copy this set of files into a kbm subfolder (keyboard and mouse). Now you make sure the appropriate set of files are copied into the bindings folder before you start the game. I'd have to look up the folder name bindings are in as I don't remember of the top of my head.

%LOCALAPPDATA%\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Bindings

... and a better method is to rename your bindings. You have to rename it properly, i.e. the PresetName in line 2 in the file is what is displayed in the drop-down list in the game.

You can have multiple binds files in the directory, just as long as they are all unique.

It checks for the last controller it was using if that isn’t there or is on another port it loads up the basic default option, always plug your control system in the same port before starting the launcher and follow all the other excellent advice about renaming and backups as well.

Enough exploration. The rank up is proving to be too elusive - and I even resorted to some r2r for a while which is entirely out-of-character :D

Heading back to inhabited space for a change of pace. Now, what was that material I was after? Ah, yes: manufacturing instructions. Lots thereof. I want to G4 my Dom suit.

Gor tired of Robigo running so switched back to my Phantom, and inspired by the latest Galnet article headed on over to the Golconda before the dredgers have their way with it. Picked up some Apa Vietii while I was there and joined the current CG.

Jumped to the target system and wondered why there was nothing except a cool black hole/neutron star combination. Double-checked and 🤦‍♂️ as I realised I needed to be in Beta Hydri, not Beta Hydrae...

Thanks. I'd already gone with the renaming option I saw Para suggest yesterday. It's the fiddliest game I've played when it comes to key bindings.

The X52 does its job beyond that issue though. Except that I added magnets inside to centre it more and avoid a right lean. That may have been my fault for resting my hand on it though.
