Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Just checking out SalteMike.

"It's all fork, but no lift??"

"I mean I love it, but it doesn't make any sense."
Those things in front aren’t even proper forks! It’s like whoever designed that cargo hauler thought, “Hey! This truck could carry a couple more units of cargo if I make a ridiculously complex cockpit entry system, then add another point of failure with retractable cargo clamps on the front, sealing the operator inside in the process!”

Apparently, it never occurred to them to make the cargo area longer to increase cargo capacity.

This thing’s is going be bugging me all day, isn’t it? :D

In other news, a little over two days to the next free fly and counting!

This not-forklift design is full of awesomeness: you can't leave it without dropping what it's carrying and move away, what are those two slots at the rear up? Why are they so slow to get in/out? Why nacelles on the sides are so high? They don't look very convenient for a human sized person to store thing in (let alone with the absolutely stellar CIG diegetic interaction system and physics engine.

You don't get out! The Quartermaster has a full day of tasks for you.

(The Admiral's plans to map Hurston with wine glasses is particularly ambitions... Plus some stray torpedoes keep spawning in aisle three.)

The nacelles are for storing the bodies.

Have you not thought this through at all??

I assume it's for pushing crashed space fighters off the decks of Idris's

When idiots design. The only thing probably important is to look good. Gameplay is on the backseat.

I've used actual forklifts, and that thing is not a forklift. It looks like it's sole purpose is to move large numbers of small (and maybe medium 1x2x1) cargo boxes, including what appears to be attachment point(s) on the front. The arms of the "forklift" are too far apart, and are oriented incorrectly, to be useful to lift heavy things, and they don't have anywhere near the necessary vertical traversal distance to lift those things to higher elevations.

Out of morbid curiosity, I went to CIG's webstore, but didn't see it for sale there. Has CIG finally added something to the game that can't be bought for real world dollars, or is it currently hidden behind the $1000 backer curtain, so the big spenders can show off their level of access before the plebeians can get their wallets on one?
Not on sale until the 28th of this month apparently 🤷‍♂️

Another aspect of the Mule Transport (I refuse to call it a forklift) that makes no sense is the under slung cargo area. This is a wheeled cargo transport, not a helicopter airlift transport. The cargo area looks like it was designed upside down. It should resemble a pickup or flatbed trailer. And then, to add unnecessary complexity to what should be a simple design, they added drawers for storing additional cargo!

But it looks cool, I’ll give it that.
I only called it a 'forklift' as a jest... :D

I did my forklift certification many, many years ago too. Like a tractor operators certification...it's kinda a necessity on a farm. :)

The Manitou is just a fancy forklift with an extended reach hydraulic boom and interchangeable heads... like various buckets, grabs, scoops or forks.

Bragger. Someone had to tease with the real thing while the rest just plays german sims.

The various medical trollies have been on a murderous rampage for some time now. But they are their worst when they just lurk in the background... juddering slightly...
You jest but this jittery motion is a telltale sign that they are still on the very old, moldy physics engine that was basically given with stock CE back in 2008 or so (although the engine itself dates back to 2002, maybe they never overhauled the physics for subsequent major versions of CE ? who knows). Not a very exciting "never done before" piece of technology on display here.
