General The ship on Elite.... From 1980 to 2022

Here are all the ships developed by Frontier for Elite .... from 1980 to 2022.

In yellow those that have been implemented from the beginning of the game, until today.

  • The other colors indicate the new ships, and their implementation in subsequent game developments.
  • In red, those never included in subsequent developments.

To consider that there are really many, and not all of them have been included up to now.

The first encounter, is the version in which the ships are more numerous.

  • And if they were all there, it wouldn't be cool ....

Thanks to this thread, I wonder how many new threads we'll have now about all the ships people are wanting? :)

There's also quite a few from ArcElite / ElitePlus / Elite-A which never made it into other official versions - https://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/Classic_Elite_ships#Classic_Elite_successor_ships - for further inspiration if they want to add more ships. The Iguana and Ophidian are both quite nice basic shapes; the Monitor is an interesting Zorgon Peterson design too, think FDL/Mamba sort of size and shape but redesigned as a hardened hauler rather than a primary combat ship.

(Constrictor was in the original BBC Elite as a secret military prototype NPC, though like the Elite vs Elite Dangerous Mamba or Krait, not sharing much other than name and approximate shape with its FE2 light freighter successor; the Eagle Mk III from FE2/FFE is mostly the same ship as the Imperial Eagle, though)

Things like the Kestrel / Falcon / Osprey as in-system fighters probably mean that the SLFs should be included on the Elite Dangerous column - they're pretty similar in role.

Nice compilation, just a minor nitpick: Ships with continued existence should be on the same line. I know that will cause empty spaces due to the alphabetical order. Also at least the Viper is missing in the FFE list, although it had it. In fact the Viper should be yellow, present in all 4 games. I think there are some other misaligned/missing ones too.

Thanks for reply
All ship are take on manual game C64 for Elite, Amiga for Elite II, while for First Encounter on Internet, because it was game Pc.

Thanks for reply,
yes, i think about on this, but for diversity of name, i don't highlighted, because i've considered to be a different ship.

Hmm... i remember someone sayin that Elite:FE had the most number of ships, waaay more than ED.
And all i can see is it had only one extra ship.

So, while there is room for improvement for ED, it has actually a quite impressive number of ships (especially considering how much more complicated the ED ships are from a design point of view - also accounting the older Discovery Scanner streams regarding ship design in ED)

The total number of ships across all official releases is 85. So there are a lot that can still be added to ED. Only 7 ships have existed through all 4 games: Adder, Asp (Explorer), Cobra MK III, Python, Sidewinder and Viper (MK III as successor of the Viper defense craft).
