Will the game be shutting down anytime soon

I will be shocked if this isnt the last paid DLC for Elite. We shall see.
Nah I'm sure we'll have more DLC to fund further development. I suspect atmos planets or something along those lines will be the next paid DLC. Elites not shutting down nor is it dying but we should probably accept its at its peak and the player base will probably never grow much bigger, that's fine the games doing well. I wonder if Frontier employed contractors to develop Horizons and Odyssey then cut staffing after release a lot of companies do this when large projects are on the go.

You can tell ED's at its peak, look at the packed events calendar:

Lavecon should be good.
I clicked all the way to December 2050 and didn't come across an entry that said 'servers shutting down'. Looks good to me.

I am very, very surprised no one has posted this yet:

Ok, now, an observation:

FD spend just about a year since Odyssey released trying to shoehorn this DLC into console systems. Everything involving narratives involving bases on atmospheric worlds, possible thargoid on-foot battles, possible ammonia worlds we may have to actually land on, was put on hold until FD got this for consoles as well.

They couldn't do it and finally admitted that. I understand. That's not a good thing, but we all realized that PC players were now beta testing while FD tried to make this go on consoles.

By finally throwing in the towel and moving beyond consoles over this, FD is finally able to get moving again. The only have to concentrate on the PC version. They've stated they'll transfer accounts from consoles to PC. There was a rather huge outcry to do that and they're going to do it to keep as much of the player base as they can.

The story may now continue. I still feel badly for the console users because there was at least 5 years-worth of time where this could have been address without the big surprise of Odyssey not working on consoles becoming a monkey wrench in the gearbox. No one, I suspect, at FD enjoyed this happening to Odyssey on consoles:

But it'll continue on PC now that they don't have to try fitting it into consoles. It won't kill the game, and I doubt it'll cause the servers to shut down in six weeks because of it. They now have the opportunity to continue the game and improve it without the restrictions that fitting it all on consoles demanded.

Starfall was just delayed until middle of 2023.
SC is still chugging along in alpha expected to move to beta on November 35th. Of what year, I'm not sure.

Let's at least see if ED continues at least that long.

I've heard that development on console for elite dangerous has stopped does the mean console servers will be shutting down anytime soon because I hope not I'm really enjoying this game
Even if there was no further updates planned, the servers would still be up for a very long time. The income from paintjobs is enough to keep the game on life support so don't worry.

On Consoles, the servers are staying up and players will still receive galnet news, CGs and Events which don't rely on Odyssey Content. If there are Odyssey updates which effect the Horizons code, then both Horizons and Consoles get patched.

So it's Maintence Mode not a game sunset!

What I find confusing is that the reason given for not developing consoles further, is so Frontier would only have a single codebase. Yet apparently they are keeping both the Horizons and Odyssey versions.

Odd, it seems perfectly understandable that further development, as mentioned, will occur on the Odyssey client, Horizons will receive only critical fixes going forward.
I may have interpreted those words incorrectly, of course 🤷‍♂️

Im wondering if this is valid only for Console Horizons or PC Horizons too
Large gimbaled frags bug happening on PC Horizons is here for quite some time already - however, maybe FDev does not consider it critical (why having them in the game if they cant be used???)

Does it not exist on console? (the frags bug, I've not heard it mentioned, but things have been a little quiet on the console front recently)

I'm still hoping that Horizons on PC gets the V4 client and the current 'split' no longer exists. (but do wonder, if that happens, if the 'critical updates' on console Horizons are received in 'good time' if they are the only platform running that client)
