Update 12 Additional Feature: Purchasable Ship Spotlights

I am in LOVE with the Ship Spotlight idea they came up with in Update 12 for Odyssey. I want to equip one to my Vulture, which was built for Planetary encounters. This would greatly improve the build both aesthetically and functionally, as the light would help illuminate settlement bombing runs when I'm on the far side of a planet / moon.

Do you have a lot of weapons on your ship that fire downwards in a 45 degree angle? Assuming you're using dumbfires which to my knowledge face forward, wouldn't the regular ship lights be more useful?

Looks more like a landing aid for cargo ships like the T6, you can actually so downward in those, for most of the ships all it would be illuminating is stuff you can't see because the floor is in the way, try a Cobra 3 and see how much you could see with that!

Hihi, there are no helicopters in Elite. 😂

The feature does look nice, but it's not really usable by most of the ships and it's of minimum usage even for ships with good cockpit view (Asps, T-ships or even Kraits)

However, i dare to say that BuurPit / Rheeney would do some really amazing footage, especially if the spot would be controllable turret_like in multicrew (they would need a 3rd person on board to man the turrets)

Yeah honestly it would most likely be useless functionally on my Vulture, but that is a good middle ground. From what I saw on the live stream the lights are designed to follow targets. If the spotlight could somehow obtain it's target through the ships target selection system, you could highlight individuals, system defenses, SRVs, etc. I am really holding out on it I love the idea.

The spotlight might be available only on Omnipol Ships, not for player ships. You know, the ones that will also flash red-blue lights (police lights) in U12

Maybe Cyno was referencing the way they mentioned the lights locking on to people on the ground and tracking them? I can't remember now if that was stated as an actual feature or something they were possibly considering...

Yeah, the idea behind this feature request was to ask Fdev to allow players to purchase them as well

Did you not get the memo that this was coming out too? It plugs into the SRV bay. It can be operated via multicrew or slf npc pilot. It fires SRV style plasma, and can target infantry.

Yeah ! That's where I'd shoot IF I COULD OPEN THE HATCH AND GET OFF MY SEAT !

In my opinion every single ship should have a few cameras and flood lights placed around the ship. I believe big vessels like our ships couldn't be controlled precisely without being able to have a few more viewpoints and illumination of landing zones for example.
I am thinking "Subnautica Cyclops".

(Maybe hit the mute button if you don't appreciate a musical assault):

I mean, they have everything in place but the UI screen, interface and modes/angles and the camera suit is already very elaborate just misses functionality when it comes to flying while it's active. So yeah, I want floodlights and cameras.
