Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Ahh I thought there were more LA predictions being noted and proved wrong, to which I'd say, Good news SC fans! With so many wrong predictions, you're bound the be right about something soon! I mean with the law of statistical averages and all that stuff. It is CR though, so he may defy all that as he's defied the whole having to produce anything to garner funds thing.

Yeah for sure +60% is a sign of failure. Gamers don't like the game so they give money to CIG to show them they are not happy 🤔
+60% of what? You mean their own made up "tracker"? A figure never publicly audited by an independent third party? And whose data has never made it over 10 years into any public financial annual report other than CIG´s own made up "blog"? Why, do you think, CIG does not want to share with the public regular financial reports for the whole group?

I mean, even assuming the figure was somewhat accurate, your logic would also mean for example that Theranos 1 billion investment (9 billion valuation) made it a "success" right? I mean, yeah, it would have meant a huge financial success at least for Elizabeth Holmes if she had not been caught. But either way her "work" didn´t produce a single blood test that wasn´t somehow fake or actually done with already existing systems. The parallel between Holmes and Chris Roberts line of work "success", is actually uncanny, barring the investment scale differences of course.

Chris Roberts: "Only +60%? Haha, doesn't he know I've upgraded from a rented apartment to a $4m LA mansion? More like +10000% 🤑"

It’s all good, LA added a year to his predictions, more fun to come ;)

the alpha is not crashing as it was explained/predicted here

Source your quotes young man. Who predicted in the thread that SC was going to 'crash' in 2021 for example? Or 2022? I'd be interested to see that.

I'm guessing you're thinking mainly of the many, many times you've shouted '90 Days Tops' for no apparent reason. In which case I think, yes, we can all agree that you were very wrong on those occasions ;)

It seems churlish to badger Ant so over his endlessly faulty predictions though, without offering up some of my own. So here's one I dug up from January:

God this year is going to be so tragi-comic.

Mole's right. They're going to keep 3.16 going for as long as they can, as an oasis of stability. Then eventually the Entity Graph will be ready to fire a coffee cup through the databases. Any fallout from that will keep them busy for a while, before they break the networking properly towards the end of the year, with the first Server Meshing tech demo ;)

If we're lucky Chris will promise Pyro for 2023...

Seems pretty much on track so far ;)

SaltEMike discusses combat logging in SC....

No worries, i'm sure that CIG can solve this with some magic tech. After all, everyone knows ED only has combat logging because its P2P whereas SC is client/server.

TBH, its not too hard due to 'deal with' due to the fact they're not using P2P framework like FDev had to deal with.

You'll still get players Combat Logging, but well... they're going to still suffer penalties e.g. loss of cargo/ship that they wouldnt do with ED, its just because right now (as they've not implemented any of the associated cost frameworks) that you'll see it being prominent still.

TBF - CIG's backend doesn't know what do do with itself even on 10Gb/s linerates.

What it will do when suddenly and opaquely port-choked to 64Kb/s is anyone's guess an absolute lulzbucket.

They key point is, they haven't, to date, implemented a solution. But early days eh?

You're talking about dreams.txt instead of reality.txt.

You're forgetting this is CIG we are talking about, who manage to make even simple things extremely complicated.

Predictions someone specifically asking me to do to mock me later. I knew it and did it nonetheless to please him, I don't mind.
I will do it again next year when you'll ask me because I know you need this sort of predictions from backers, personnaly I don't care as I already greatly enjoy what is already my main game. Take it like a gift from me for you. More fun for you and great fun for me, everyone happy.

Nah, you make predictions all the time Ant:
  • The end of mainstream SC criticism
  • Tool "industrialization" driving a mass rollout of solar systems
  • "less and less bugs quarter after quarter"
  • "Server Meshing coming🤘".
Etc etc etc. (Sometimes you get so carried away you do a little dance about other titles not having Vulkan, even though SC doesn't have it yet either ;))

If you just stuck to enjoying the game, you'd be fine. But you regularly treat CIG's more grandiose plans as definite realities, and then use those 'facts' in your endless tribal war against SC criticism. It's kinda inevitable that we're gonna comment on your Stormtrooper-tier aim on that front ;)
