Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Don't go to the site they state, instead look for POIs nearby but still within the same factions control. Those little crashed areas with a few containers, etc. will often spawn skimmers with the correct faction, and they count as mission targets.

At least that's how I used to do them (in Horizons).
OK that's going to work for sure.
I think you probably need one or two commanders with you to manage it at the high security installation. Part of the issue is the ground installation is on wide open flat ground - no cover to drive the SRV behind to avoid taking fire.

Do it the good, old fashioned, American way.

An approach after my own heart (despite being British) - the dumb fire missiles the Krait was packing are from a large launcher with grade 5 rapid fire and overload / incendiary for extra pretty explosions :p
I'm normally shooting ground troops with them from the DBX.

Maybe consider a T10 with a full missile loadout with the same sorts of engineering nearly twice as many launchers as the Krait.

There was a time in the long-distant past when skimmer missions were some of the best-paying missions out there. I did bunches of them. I got very good at finding those POIs (using the blue circle in the radar). That blue circle is gone in Odyssey, so I'm not sure how you'd find them now. I guess just fly around within 100km or so of the installation. I don't think the DSS shows them.

The thing with the T10 is that it could be construed as overkill at taking down scavs at a settlements. After all, it's got Independently targeting particle-beam phalanx. WHAP! Fry half a city with that puppy. It's got tactical smart missiles, phase plasma pulse rifles, RPGs. It's got sonic, electronic ball-breakers! It's got nukes, it's got knives, sharp sticks...

Great fun though.

And if all that fails you can squash the place by landing on it.

Bonus points for naming it IMT aka Manetogorsk of Mars.

Have a heart. I've got less than 24 hours real life time to complete this mission and I've never bought or engineered a T10 before - that's a lot of missiles to engineer, because its naturally essential that they are all rapid fire overload munitions for maximum "boom" :ROFLMAO:

OK 9 sentry skimmers destroyed. No other POIs with skimmers in the area to be found. I did it by parking at the edge of the ground installation and picking off the skimmers at a distance. Between the SRV getting destroyed once in an experiment where I drove to the centre of the facility where maybe guns couldn't reach me (didn't work), and there simply not being 9 skimmers to shoot at in one visit, I had to supercruise away and return to reset the instance and try again twice.
If I'm set a mission to destroy 9 skimmers, there should be at least 9 skimmers to shoot down at the installation. I should not have to play tricks to reset the scenario to get the required number of skimmers to shoot at. Breaks immersion and turns a mission into a repeat grind for no realistic reason.
I won't be doing sentry skimmer destruction missions again. It wasn't as much fun as I wanted it to be with the reset requirement. Of secondary note is the low reward for time spent.

As @aRJay says, you can find G3s in the shops sometimes. There is a thread called "sharing is caring" where CMDRs list their findings of such stuff. Keep an eye out there :) - it lists weapons as well. Some stuff has mods already applied.

Also, it seems that Thursdays are best as this is when the "tick" occurs.
Actually the thread is here

The Thursday tick is when the stock in the shops changes so the best/rarest items in the easiest locations goes shortly after that with more obscure systems with longer travel between shops usually have stock for longer.

If anyone posts an item in the thread with a location it is usually an all out race to get it, there are better chances with the ones who ask for a private message to get the location.
It must be that international date line thing, but I have noticed twice now(I know I shouldn't say this) that right after my server reboots (once a week), there's higher grade stuff in the pioneer shop. When your playing and you get that big fat message that says the server is going down in 15 minutes at 11:45 P.M. local time. 30 minutes later after it's done with it's maintenance cycle is when I've had the best luck.

That's pretty slick, the Krait MkII is my mostest favorite combat ship. I saw and we bought one of those engravings of my wife sitting on my lap at Circus-Circus in Reno, Nv in 2005, we sat in a chair and the 3D Imax camera rotated around us, it was reminiscent of those very old Kodak cameras where they put you in a back and neck brace to keep you from moving.

Edit: We also got a small rotating multicolored light to illuminate it with, looks really cool sitting on a bookshelf with the lights shinning on it.

Yes that weekly server reboot (Thursday morning around the start of the workday here in the UK) is what is known as the tick, all sorts of things get reset or change state or in the case of the ferries swap location during that break including refreshing and changing the stock in the shops.

That's the way i've got g3'd 2*every weapon and g3'd 2(or 4...)*every suit (just in case... what if one is wasted or smth). No idea if it was long, i haven't noticed, you just need a possibiility to log on Thursday and request a shuttle to somewhere while doing something else. It's not hard, you have a chance to get some mods if you want them preinstalled, and you can do smth else, like a dinner, while on it. It's only after that that i've checked the real cost of g2/g3, which actually isn't that bad. Could've been just simply done from g1 actually. Idk what i'd side with, getting a g3 is simple, and upgrading to g3 is cheap as well. In fact at the end of this hunt i was a little disappointed. I think i'd better just plainly upgrade to g2 and g3. On the other hand power regulators and manufactoring instrctions are still rare, no prob to spend 5 of them, but those 5 may mean another mission or two.

DSS does show irregular markers, where those skimmers and canisters are usually. Those i saw are like 3, or 5, or 7 per planet though, and if you say search for them within of a base range, in x kms, while those bases can be in numbers... Idk, it's either changed in Odyssey, and instead those irregular markers are in place, which are visible on a DSS, either i just never found that POI. I've tried some SRV searches on planets, but it was getting boring rather fast and i quitted, hardly finding anything valuable. It'd be actually nice to know if there're smaller POIs on planets that ain't listed on DSS for SRV (or small ship) hunt, that'd give more reason for wandering on planets.

I hit another milestone today, 400 hours played according to Stream. Rookie numbers to some I'm sure 😆

I bought the game back in January 2019, and have been playing it on and off over the years. I paid 10€ for both the base game and Horizons, so I would say I got my money's worth.
Apparently, I've been playing for 21W 3D 12H 46M. I'm not even tempted to translate that into hours on the basis it would highlight my sad little life :D

Lightweights. ;)

I confessed to my total hours (multiple accounts) on my 7th anniversary of playing the game back in April:

over 8200

Just checked on INARA and I've been playing for 1 month 27 days 8 hours 33 minutes. Not sure if that includes the time from 2014-2015 though.
I'm also not sure if the month in the stat is February or October.
