Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

SC runs incredibly well compared with EDOdyssey and with 1000x the detail.
a factual claim
Jg3dfKm.gif

It would appear that LTNTDan didn't do well at mathematics :ROFLMAO:
From all things, getting so triggered by a factual claim not only shows poor form but also somewhat a strong emotional bias.
I understand the last years haven't been easy, specially for those who've spent years preaching SC demise along it's total absence of gameplay predicates.
Seeing ED players making the move to SC after such long waited and anticipated expansion while loosing some of it's best content creators sure was a hard blow but that isn't a reason to resent SC now is it?

After all, it's the natural evolution of things. Those who invest and dedicate a lot into improving their game will evolve at a higher rate than those who don't.
And about "respecting player time" I meant it. (Always find ironic seeing gamers waste time arguing about games wasting their time eh)

Travelling to cities is optional and it's something I only do occasionally so I don't think it's detrimental to my experience. It adds to the immersion and the sense of scale of the planets.
What I feel is well complemented with SC good game design core of not relying on, what I feel, is a very outdated model of grind for the sake of forcibly dragging a games life extension. Specially hard to force yourself into that kind of grind without thinking, "Why bother?" Specially when the games future is uncertain.

At least, in SC one can be competitive in PVP or PVE from day one thanks to the ability to fly other players ships and or player trading. Even a solo player can getr access to competitive ships in a very short time thanks to the renting system. What matters the most is the player skill after all.
So, there's no tiresome engineering grind there (thank god). You grind credits and you buy your components and that's it. The FPS component is even more straightforward. Since you can just loot every item from both NPC's and Players and use them whatever you like. Rewarding player skill is, again, the main factor.

So yes, it's no wonder that gamers from more grindy games move on to SC, despite it's buggyness and capacity to irate the most patient gamer, at it's core, it already provides many fun and engaging gameplay loops in a seamless and sandbox online space.

And that so many players feel ok to play a game as buggy as SC is right now, all while also knowing that everything they "work for" is gonna be lost to a wipe sooner or later, is a great testament to how good the core gameplay already there is.

All of them Ant. Because they’re released games. The category that SC is still yet to fulfill ;)
Ha ha.
Unable to acknowledge something as factual, that SC has the best graphic for now in the space game genre.
Wait, was that a challenge ? Do you know there are quite a few space games that DO look better than SC,
Which one ? Can you show us some screenshots, I'm curious ...

I’ll happily grant you that SC is the best looking space alpha around. It’s just not necessarily a very wise thing for it to be…

What's the matter Ant? Not up for admitting that SC is still a horribly dysfunctional alpha after all these years?

Just let it out man. Let it all out...

Damn that looked pretty though 😍o_O:love:

Space Engine evidently looks vastly better, while having much more to show too. If Ant really can't acknowledge anything and scrapes the barrel with "what about this second here?" it's unfortunately time to just move him to where he probably belonged for a long time now.

Oh well. Maybe one day an SC fan will show up that is honest and sincere. Let's wait and see.

In short:

I don't think the Elite Refugee movement would have become a thing if SC alpha was that dysfunctional as you try to push.
Nor would it be played by so many big content creators lately...

9M subscribers between those 4 Star Citizen players alone.

For reference,
ObisidianAnt which I would consider ED biggest content creators has 289K subs.

As someone who has interacted with that community for years.... I try not to paint them all with the same brush. I've played with some really nice people they were funny and kind and really just want Star Citizen to be a good game.... much like myself.

But there is a large portion of that community that is very very toxic and there is no such thing as valid criticism they already think Star Citizen is the best game ever made unparalleled in every capacity.

The later group is a large part of the reason Star Citizen is such a dumpster fire still.

If you have any questions about the game feel free to hit me up ill do my best to give you accurate info / tips N tricks.

Double lol 😁

Checked back in on the TAG / Jack / LevelCap collective. Turns out their Idris mission never spawned. They got philosophical instead...

God I got lost watching some more of the stream. It is all just so... damn... scuffed...

They are hunting an NPC bounty. Two turrets stop working at a bad moment for no apparent reason. They get pummelled and flee for repairs.

Freeman is trying to get them somewhere but 'You wouldn't believe the jank'. They say they would.

One of them has mystery crime stat so can't dock to repair. (Remag flies off his feet checking mobiglass as he has to leave the emote stance which stops him falling over). Seems it might have been Freeman clipping a floating turret as he flew in.

Tommy gets injured taking over pilot seat.

Remag wants them to hover first to avoid a bug. 'It's all about avoiding the bugs'

Jonny is stuck in his seat apparently. One turret still knackered despite the repair.

Freeman hasn't managed to clear crimestat but has spawned a hoverbike and plans to drive out of ship near a station. Only it gets stuck in the floor.

He finally arrives in another vehicle. The turret is still bust.

Jonny is still stuck in his chair. They shoot him, he flies out but returns to chair, so he's now stuck in chair incapacitated. They heal him but now he seems to be immune to bullets? They decide to overdose him...

'It's like an escape room, but the world's worst one'. They're all just punching Johnny now.

They accidentally judo incapacitate Tommy. Jonny has a level 3 chest issue so now needs med bed. They accidentally kill Remag with a mix of takedown move and Jack kerbstomping him. Although he says he didn't see anything his end. Clips suggests he stands on his foot etc.

Sparks fly as they smack Remag's body around. It ends up in Johnny's lap. The body flies out of the ship as they wang it around. Tommy kills LvlCap with the same stamp.

Jonny tried to respawn and that starts the ship self destruct somehow? He tries it several times. (Is this the whole 'player becomes the ship' thing? Even though he's not the pilot?). He alt F4s at Tom's suggestion.

Tommy is struggling to dock to station. ['Why is this so complicated?' asks Jack]. Jonny is an expert, having failed to do it for 45 minutes (ship to ship docking?). But unfortunately he's dead.

'All I can hear is someone really weird choral singing. Is that normal?' [Docking sound seems to be bugged]

LevelCap tries to thread merlin through a gap in the hammerhead and blows them all up

Tommy is trapped in the hospital due to elevator. He's in Orison due to Invictus. His inventory is not working.

(They joke about too many streamers promoting SC and breaking it with players. Joke about being paid etc)

Finally getting around to doing the missions to get to Idris mission. Maybe... Tommy still has to get off Orison...

LevelCap was getting armoured up, got into lift, and all his armour fell off as boxes.

They finally get moving in their various ships. LevelCap gets the MFD issue where he tries to select the menu button and he slowly exits his ship mid quantum...

Tommy can't see LevelCap's icon on the star map so struggling to rescue him. Party wangling fixes it.

Lol. Tommy realises he's flying naked because of the inventory bug, so doesn't know if he'll survive opening the canopy to let LevelCap in. In the end he's fine, with no issues at all. Although he is apparently clipped through his seat.

Jonny still hasn't caught up with them. Now he's crashed to desktop. He's done. Can't do that journey for a 5th time.

Both those guys acknowledge that SC is a horribly buggy mess mate.

Not in their glossy adventure videos. But while streaming with others, while actually playing the game? Absolutely.

Because it is. It's a very buggy perma-alpha ¯\(ツ)/¯

Not overtly, not front and centre. And certainly not in Jack's glossy adventure videos. But while playing the game on streams with others. When actually playing the game. Absolutely.
Every time you see something move in SC it is so weird and janky. It's not even last gen, NMS, X4, ED and such are all dated in different ways but none look this bizarre. It's really PS3 era physics/animations with PS4 era lightning.

Sometimes I wonder if people who truly believe this looks amazing suffer from some 'forest for the trees' syndrome and genuinely don't register the issues because a shoelace has a 4k texture or something.

Yeah, player movement for example is clearly super jank.

But rejoice, the next patch brings fixes...

Enabled new remote movement and new server authoritative position systems.
With this update, players should see great improvements with on foot player positions and less jittery behavior while viewing remote player movements.

All bugginess is temporary, and can be ignored. All futures are glorious ;)

Although given how totally overload their servers are, it wouldn't be a massive surprise if this system glitches out in new and interesting ways out in the wild ;)

Poor LevelCap, the honeymoon is over :(

Nah, I think SC does look better than ED.

You say that, and not too long ago I would have probably agreed. Alas I am afraid I was a bit the victim of the usual SC group thinking and assumptions... yes it also affects skeptics...

I mean, the more I play other space games the more I realize SC graphics are really nothing to write home about. I check the screenies that @LittleAnt posted a few pages back, and then I remember these other from a few space games I currently play or have played (some also quite old already):

And you suddenly realize that SC graphics, taken in isolation, perhaps could have impressed someone back then circa 2012 as it did to most of us. But within the context of the rest of actual games released out there (some even as old as SC), SC is indeed nothing to write home about.

Especially when one considers that these other games work reasonably well. Whereas SC is still utterly buggy, incomplete and broken after 10+ years.

The point I am making is: Graphics don't make the game. And under its pretty skin SC is still a very buggy, patchwork, pre-alpha ¯\(ツ)/¯

Fully agree there. If someone feels the urge to die on the "SC graphics are the bestest" hill as a dutiful knight in a last ditch defense, then not only he/she is arguably very wrong but it is also indeed a sad day for what that actually means for SC as a game.

I don't think the Elite Refugee movement

What 'movement' - the one you and Ant invented because you saw 6 posts from ex ED players on SC centric forums?

Just stop with this desperation manure, graphics alone a game do not make, there's this miracle thing called gameplay too, and gameplay loops believe it or not, some space games have......steel yourself here...more than one star system too...I know, shocking right? Guess what, real stab in the dark here but I bet players are switching between SC, NMS, ED and all the rest as they choose and this isn't the one direction of travel SH** that you keep making out it is, stop it.

Does SC look good? hell yeah it does but it's in a decade long alpha with no end in sight, that is simply inexcusable no matter how much you and Ant show us pretty screenshots.....

Once again, for the record, many of the people you are throwing propaganda at don't think Frontier have done a great job with ED but at least it's out, as is NMS, X4, SE, Space Engineers and many more.

Keep defending in indefensible all you want Dan and Ant but please, please, please still be here in 3, 4, 5 years defending this perma Alpha, incomplete, buggy, physics screwed tech demo because if you are proving one thing it's that some gamers are as gullible and easy to manipulate as CR thought they were.

Get fooled once and all that...
