Autumn DLC Speculation

About animals being forum wishes:

This was poll posted on reddit on pack announcement date. DeLady has similar results with 11k votes, which animal should be added to her zoo first.
Przwalski's horse is most popular, whereas close to no one cares about oryx. YT comments especially loves horse, even Rudi was surprised why. Horse also trends on PZ wiki.
I think we really need a heavy hitting aviary or aquarium pack to get casual consumers back into the game. Rn they’re listening to us here on the forum and that’s great for us but the casual fan definitely wants something more game changing imo
To be honest, for this reason Aquatic Pack still holds title of their bestselling pack.
And i think the wetlands pack was very popular just because of the capybara and the otter (and maybe the platypus and the crane).
Based on yt and reddit polls it was like this: platypus > capybara = crane >>> otter >>>> buffalo>lechwe>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>caiman

I hope that is just influenced by beginning of the summer vacation. I would love for the support to last for 2023. But if the support would last only till the end of 2022 I would still be happy that it was continued for so long and would trust on modders for the bright future.

I think that summer time with less restrictions because of Corona than the last two years could be a reason. People can do now things again which was restricted to a certain degree (depending on which country you origin) and gaming at around 30 degree Celsius sometimes is not the first choice. I do not know how high was the number of sold DLC? But this is the important value which brings money. Is it enough for further support in 2023? I think autumn will be a better time to compare with last packs and last year (as I mentioned because of the first more or less "free summer" since 3 years (at least in Germany)).

Just trying something out here, sort of a reverse of my previous post's dry/tropical to see what would be missed.
Drylands Animal Pack
  • Dromedary
  • Emu
  • Hamadryas baboon
  • African crested porcupine
  • Bennett's wallaby
  • Tasmanian devil
  • Maned wolf or coatimundi
Tropical Pack
  • Matschie's tree kangaroo
  • Fossa
  • Red river hog
  • Two-toed sloth, lar gibbon, or golden lion tamarin
Arboreal Animal Pack
  • Matschie's tree kangaroo
  • Fossa
  • Two-toed sloth
  • Lar gibbon
  • Golden lion tamarin
  • Spider monkey
  • Raccoon or Coquerel's sifaka
Desert Pack
  • Dromedary
  • Emu
  • Hamadryas baboon
  • African crested porcupine
Ugh. There's just no winning with only 11 species left. I guess I prefer my initial lineup.

I also thought on an arboreal DLC for autumn after we got brachiation. In my mind this could be the second likely pack after a general forest or rainforest DLC. I like your line-up. Perhaps the Howler Monkey would be a better choice (because of general popularity) than the Golden Lion Tamarin but the Tamarin would surely bring some color to the game. 3-4 primates in this pack would be okay in my opinion as we are really lacking a good diversity around this group of animals. As an exhibit species a chameleon species would be perfect for an arboreal DLC.
I still believe in more than 2 Packs left. So your Desert pack has to much highlights in my opinion. Emu and Porcupine surely could work for grasslands, too.

I still want some more animals for desert and tundra/taiga biomes. I feel both are lacking. Lots of other animals too, but I'd really like more for those biomes in particular.

I would really love to see general or tropical woodlands pack. Depending on how much support we can still count on I would go with:

Woodlands (if support ends in 2022)

Tasmanian devil
Red river hog
Sloth
Wombat
Fossa
Coati
Tree kangaroo

Woodlands (is support will be extended to 2023)

Red river hog
Sloth
Fossa
Coati
Tree kangaroo
Howler or Spider monkey
Anoa

There really isnt. 6 packs including an avian pack i can do. 4 packs with an avian pack is hard but i can do it; 4 without an avian pack is pretty easy. 2 packs though—always having to leave something out even with a potential 1 or even 2 anniversary animals.

If the Autumn DLC matches a temperate biome with a forest pack, which new trees would you like to get in the free update?

I know lots of Eurasian and North American trees that could match such a pack, but especially I'm interested in knowing which new trees could match a Tasmanian Devil. Any interesting tree in Tasmania? Or in temperate Oceania? @ElectricMonk, any ideas?
1. a temperate forest pack should definitely include the Red deer ❤️
2. two iconic temperate forest trees come to mind: the Giant sequoia tree, and the Witch tree.

I'm curious for Tasmanian foliage as well!

The more we talk about it, the more i want a Forest animal pack. But not just temperate forest, but one with animals from all types of forests: tropical rainforest, boreal, temperate, cloud forest...
The free update could include the foliage and the animal pack different kind of animals... that way it can offer a lot of variety and fan favorites

Boreal: Wolverine
Cloud forest: Spectacled bear
Rainforest:
  • SA: Howler monkey
  • Africa: Red river hog
  • Australia: Tasmanian Devil
Montane forests: Golden snub nosed monkey (another option i'd be happy for asian rep is a golden pheasant, but i can also see them choosing a sichuan takin instead)
Temperate forest: Red Deer
Exhibit animal: Tuatara/Gecko/Emerald tree boa

I still think a Nocturnal House building pack would be cool as well.

This would really be a cool pack. Personally I would replace the howler monkey with the sloth and the golden snub nosed monkey with the spider monkey but both changes are just because of the new brachiation mechanics. I would also be happy to see your suggestions in the game. And I would include the chameleon to your exhibit suggestions. Nocturnal scenery pack would be perfect for Winter in my opinion. I combine darkness and night always with the cold time of the year.

Oh yes of course! I forgot about the chameleon. For sure. We need a chameleon too.
I guess i just want more monkeys lol we have lots of apes but just two real monkeys, and the howler and the golden snub nosed one are among my favorites, but sure a spider monkey would be cool. I just will prefer a monkey over a sloth because they are more interesting to play with, but sure a sloth would do as well and it would be pretty unique.

Exactly this. Though the official forums are great and have some really avid fans, they can sometimes turn into an echo chamber. What’s popular at the moment on here may not actually be what the PZ community at large is wanting to see/get.

I also agree that if Frontier is hoping to sustain/increase DLC sales for PZ, they are going to eventually have to introduce flying and/or fully aquatic species. The general public more than likely isn’t as interested in more “niche” species as we, the zoo fanatics of the forums, are.

Where can i find this "larger" PZ community you are all talking about? I only use IG, YT and this forum... and the opinions seem to be pretty much the same everywhere i read.

Tbh, I’m not sure you’re gonna find a space that provides the input of PZ’s larger demographic/DLC buyers. Because most of them probably aren’t involved enough in the game’s social spaces to bother providing their input. They just see when Frontier has put out a new DLC/update and decide if it’s interesting/engaging enough to buy it/spend time using it. I do think though one of your best “gagers” would be checking the results of polls that major PZ youtubers put out (DeLady, Rudi, etc.) Their polls often are engaged with by thousands of users, something that the official forums will probably never have.

As @Doran mentioned before, this is also likely why the Aquatic Pack has remained PZ’s top-selling DLC all this time later. Regardless of how large the pack’s piece count was or how common in zoos the species included were, the pack as a whole was marketed as something unlike anything else currently in-game. All the species in it made use of a totally new mechanic and Frontier really leaned into this when advertising the pack’s release. And financially-speaking, that’s what made it successful. If additional support is intended for 2023, another “new mechanic pack” will likely be necessary for PZ unless Frontier is ok with seeing a significant drop in profit margins.

I want a red Hazelnut trees, i love their beautiful reddish purple color.
Their english wikipedia page has a latin name, but also "Filbert", but i also saw the names of purple or blood hazel.
