Gpu not good enough, you should have waited until next gen 40 series arrives. Its going to be here before Christmas
EDO's on-foot FPS issues are a
software problem, not hardware. Only FDev can correct this. So, unless someone has a really low-end system, performance issues can't really be blamed on hardware - especially something decent like the OP's system, which is a really nice spec for solid 1440p gaming. Assuming at least 16GB RAM and a decent M.2 NVMe drive along with good cooling / air flow and PSU to support it.
The 3070 is a pretty decent GPU. I got one recently to replace a 1070 that just wasn't cutting it any more after I replaced my old 1200p (back light fault) monitor with a modern 1440p one. The 1070 was largely fine in EDO, with a few settings turned down, but it had to work hard to maintain (close to) 60fps in other titles even with things turned down. To be clear, the Spaceship stuff was great, the On Foot not so much. While I'd fully planned to wait for the 40 series - or AMD's equivalent, I had the chance of a new 3070 at a decent price so got it. While GPU's may not be bargains currently, the 3070 - with the prices where I am - was very much
the best value per frame GPU available, comfortably beating the 3060Ti. I did my due diligence, watching performance tests of other GPU's at 1440p and for each of the 3070TI, 3080 10GB, 3080 12GB and 3080Ti the extra cost of each did not give anywhere near the same percentage fps increase (including 1% and .1% lows). Also, in all the various titles I've tried, with settings maxed out, I've not seen over 6GB vRAM usage, so that 8GB isn't a problem - at least not yet.
I did this before with the 1070, I picked it up as a temporary card (I had twin 680's at the time) while waiting for the 1080Ti to be formally announced. The 1070 turned out to be so good, I used it for six years and never got the 1080Ti. I'd be pleased if the 3070 is even half as long-lived. I even got a cheap water block for it, cos stuff and tinkering is fun. If the 40-series really is a huge leap
and the prices aren't crazy
and GPU's are actually available, then the 3070 might be only see short-term use on the main gaming PC. In the mean-time though, I'm really pleased with the 3070 and the price I got it for.
