Note to self: a rocket launched from the L-6 that hits the structure right in front of you before heading to the target will end in tears. And possible death. Practice is required.
As with most grenades it is fairly important that you are outside of the blast radius when detonation occurs.
If the L-6 produced backblast when it launched then there would be even more safety points to learn, the scene near the end of Rambo would end with both helicopters destroyed and no survivors.

Health And Safety have written to me already. They have said I should obey (on pain of death), that the following points should be observed:

1) Do not light the blue touch paper indoors
2) Avoid firing at hand rails when standing right next to them
3) Do not look down the barrel whilst holding the trigger
4) Point the weapon at the enemy, not your friend(s), not your SRV, not your ship
5) If a scav get's to within point-blank range, the L-6 is not a recommended incendiary device
6) The L-6 is not a toy. Not recommended for children under 5
7) Polish your weapon regularly (fnar fnar)

Since Odyssey is on sale on the Frontier store I decided to finally upgrade my original account, which is now one of my alts. Yes I have 3 accounts, hehe.

I logged in to let him do his first disembark, forgetting that the game would put me into the on-foot tutorial. So, I got a chance to do the tutorial again.

The visuals are wonderful, I have to say.

I was pleased to discover that killing the enemies in the tutorial was very easy for me now, even with the laser rifle. I seem to have learned a few things.

After the tutorial the game returned me to my ship (a red DBX as it turned out). So I got to do that first disembark then. In a flight suit, because that's all he has. :p

Contrary to popular belief, the Mamba is a lovely ship. Like you, I personally thought it was more agile than the reports make it out to be, and it can be kitted out to be a real pain in the b’ttocks.

Hey. All this talk about Mambas inspired me to finally do something with the Mamba that was rotting in my hangar. I don't have an FDL because I hate it from the bottom of my being, but sometime ago I bought a Mamba and didn't know what to do with it. I spent today fitting it out for HazRes hunting. It's a mix of parts I had in storage, but I had to engineer a few new parts (mostly the armor, a HRP to plug the thermal hole and a shield booster along with a few experimentals missing on storage parts).

I had some trouble finding a weapon combination that worked for me. I tried what I had in storage and took some weapons of my other ships. The small hardpoints were a pain to outfit because I didn't really have anything appropriate, and I had both a huge laser and a huge plasma in storage, but nothing really worked for me. I tried the laser and the plasma with an array of MCs, but I went through too much ammo and took too long to strip shields. I had two small long range railguns that I tried to pair with three plasmas, but combat with the npcs was slow and ttk too long.

So I took one huge gun from my corvette and ended up with... the most boring standard weapons you can think of: Lasers and MCs. I now have a huge (overcharged/oversized) and two small MCs (overcharged/CS and incendiary) and two large beams (efficient/TV), and boy, bounty hunting is fun with that combination. Not suited to take on high level wings of three, but small and medium single pirates just melt.

Anyway, long way to say: Thanks for the inspiration!

Is it Odessey on sale? I was just looking and didn't see any specific mention of it.

Edit: found it! £16.50. They still seem to be pushing ED:Horizons for £5.

The two ships I have that kill the quickest are the Corvette with a rather obvious and conventional combination of beam lasers (long range) and 2 x huge overcharged MCs with autoloader. The other is my long standing Krait II - 2 x large efficient beams, 1 large overcharged autoloader MC and 2 medium overcharged MCs, one corrosive the other autoloader. Both can launch an SLF.

The Mamba with frags will sometimes get a kill really fast - usually medium/large ships, but the small ships take longer as they are too small to take all the fragments. On average, probably no quicker to kill and runs out of ammo fast compared to the other two. It's fun and a change from the usual but dependable lasers and MCs.

I was feeling a bit disappointed with the speed of kills in the Mamba. Then I finally noticed that I had forgotten to upgrade the double shot engineering modification on one of the 2 large frag cannons from the initial grade 1 I was testing with up to grade 5. I pinned the blue print planning to do it later when I was sure I wanted to keep it and when I'd traded a few materials around. So I've fixed that, and now targets are exploding with the anticipated speed :p
Unfortunately, I've earned a heat management problem in the process - in an intense bout of firing all weapons the ship starts taking a bit of heat damage. I will experiment with swapping the efficient pulse laser turret with emissive effect for a small thermal vent beam laser I've got in storage. Shame, I like this little emissive turret laser as it shows where the target is when it's out of sight and its a great visual indicator of when your targets chaff has stopped being effective and you can open up with other weapons. I have one on the Corvette. Some say it extends the firing arc of gimbled weapons. I'm not convince about that.

I've also tried out the advice I once heard for the Mamba, which is leave out the boost and just keep it in the blue zone for turns. The Mamba is fast without boost too. So I tried that with just occasional boost turns. It turns the combat experience into something oddly graceful, and when you get into the groove the flight path you take with chaff timed right results in turns plenty fast enough for PvE combat that targets with gimbled and turret weapons can't hit you while you're doing it. And then you pounce with the frags.
I sometimes see T10's at this nav beacon which are easily destroyed. I've never seen one go down as fast as it did taking frag cannon fire, and that includes attacking one with 7 rail guns on a Cutter. Even I can hit a T10 with rail guns :ROFLMAO:

It's still going to take some learning to get better with the Mamba and I must plug in my HOTAS joystick again. But even now, the targets are going down very fast.
At the compromised nav beacon that I frequent, I get about 15 minutes and a bit less than 5 million in bounties before ammo runs out and shields are low. Fortunately someone in my squadron has his Fleet Carrier parked less than 2ls away.,
The Federal Corvette keeps going 40+ minutes and 15 million in bounties until ammo is out on the huge multi-cannons. The prismatic shields are easily restored to 100% with the shield cell bank charges not used.

Just a reminder for anyone who has forgotten or didn’t know.
You can always extend the time in combat by synthesising ammunition premium grade will deliver a lot more punch which is nice as long as you have the materials required.

I have done this from time to time with multi-cannons and the cost was too bad per reload but it is amazing what a dent you can put in your materials stocks by the time the red mist clears and you are off for some R&R.
