Switching to Odysee. Maybe...

It may be time for me to take the leap and move on to Odyssey. But I have a general question before I pull the switch.

I have 9 or 10 - I forget - ships in my fleet. Weapons, shields, FSD, Fuel Scoops and anything else that can be upgraded (except thrusters - not going down that grind road so only grade 3 for them) have been upgraded to grade 5. Took a lot of time and money to get there.

So - if I don't upgrade to Odyssey level engineering standards am I gonna be completely outclassed with my Horizons level stuff. If so how much of a grind is it gonna be to bring my self up to spec (I hate mining, HATE IT)? Not gonna do the guardian stuff regardless but... if I won't be able to compete I may just have to grit my teeth and tackle the task.

You have EDH, everything stays as it is! If you upgrade to EDO, you can, but really dont need to engineer your suits and handheld weapons they are all useable as they come, better at stock than ships and parts at stock provided in EDH, plus you can buy pre-engineered effects in EDO.

As said, your Horizons stuff is exactly the same in Odyssey and there's no extra engineering needed for Horizons stuff, any suit engineering is optional, but not mentioned is the fact you can purchase grade 3 engineered suits from many vendors in the bubble, and these are quite suitable for taking on NPC foot soldiers so you don't really need any grinding unless you want specific mods to your suits, such as night vision etc, and even then if you shop around enough you can sometimes find them with the right mod for sale.

Greetings,

All your ships, load outs, engineering upgrades, main flight suit (not upgradable) and cosmetics are the same. Future engineering upgrades to your ships are also the same. The game play is also the same. So if your are good at a certain play style in Horizons you will still be just as good in Odyssey. If you are outclassed ditto.

Odyssey simply adds lots of on-foot planetary missions with three new suits designed for different styles of game play and lots of hand held weapons. Suits and weapons have basic level 1-5 upgrades requiring collecting materials at planetary bases. Custom engineering upgrades to suits and weapons requires unlocking 9 new engineers in the bubble and 4 in Colonia (if you are there) then requiring collecting materials at planetary bases. You can trade for materials at any bartender similar to trading for ship materials at an encoded, manufactured and raw trader.

Once you add an engineering upgrade to a suit or weapon it cannot be deleted as easily done with ships so choose wisely.

All the Odyssey materials are new and NONE of the ship materials that you collected in Horizons can be traded for Odyssey materials. Maybe someone should ask why not? So it is starting all over again with upgrades and additional engineering.

Odyssey also added two new ways to get around doing on-foot missions while parking your expensive engineered ship. Apex Transport (a taxi) can be hired can take you to a mission and recall them to take you back. Frontline Solutions is Odyssey's on-foot version of Horizon's Conflict Zones using a Vulture to get you and other NPCs there fighting with you.

In my NPC combat opinion? If you are totally into FPS for years in other games you are going to like Odyssey mastering it then posting threads on the Forum about how it is too easy! Not so much into combat but also never shy away when there is a great profit you will enjoy it. If your personal rule is NEVER combat then why are you playing Elite Dangerous? I know why so Odyssey comes up with the Artemis suit to collect biological interesting plants then sell them.

Any Odyssey MASTERS did I miss the basics? Post. Play the game your way.

Regards

Some things are better done in Horizons as opposed to doing them in Odyssey.

You still don't get the Cobra MKIV (unless you are a current owner)

Hopefully, you have current hardware, or the game can be trying.

This does not read correctly, the way you have written this would make someone unfamiliar to Odyssey think that the materials collected for ship engineering in Horizons will not be able to be used at a Materials trader in Odyssey and then used for ship engineering.

He also makes it sound like a grind fest.🤦

I feel that there is a bit more tension with the on foot missions, compared to, say, mining. With mining you know to drop in, wait to be scanned and then start collecting. After that initial scan, no more pirates will appear. In super cruise we often get a warning, and can usually evade any interdiction attempt.

In Odyssey npc scavengers may or may not be present at the place you are visiting (settlements, PoI), and up to two more waves of npc scavengers may drop in. You always need to keep an ear out for an incoming ship, an eye on your HUD radar and be prepared to run if there is even a hint of something amiss. Not always easy in a noisy environment, or deep inside a building. Exiting a building to run straight into a bunch of hostiles is not fun. But exciting.

Remember before you disconnect the power regulator to have the doors overloaded and the scorpion waiting outside with a clear run and in forward gear...
Definitely no one saw me reverse back into the settlement...

For those that don't know, if you've acquired the right access level, then you don't have to overload doors, it's enough to charge them as they will open when you approach.

If the power is off and you have the right access level (or you're exiting a door which doesn't need any clearance), it uses less power to charge the doors rather than overload them.

But if the power's still on you don't need to conserve your suit power, so might as well overload them to pin them open permanently.

(Be aware though, there is a certain settlement configuration that has a corridor with level 1 doors at either end; if you're not in a mav suit and don't have any e-breaches it is possible to get yourself trapped.)

No if you have the needed access level and the power is out, all you need to do is to charge it and it will open when you approach. No need to over charge it and to leave it open.

I would suggest you to try Odyssey with a friend, to steal some stuff in settlement to see if you like the sneak gameplay, to do a few extermination missions on settlement to see if you like the shooter gameplay and maybe a couple of on-foot CZ. If you don't like these, you'll just buy landable atmospheric planets and walkable planets (including atmospheric ones). At the cost of degraded space lighting and atrocious ground performance.

Doing Odyssey with a team mate is excellent. Things go a lot faster, and the wingman makes keeping an eye out much easier.
